DiNovi··on How Basecamp Blew Up
so they:

- Announced a new company policy publicly before telling the staff

- Deleted internal threads that would go against their narrative of why they did so

- Had a conservative senior employee go off about politics on the call discussing the new no politics policy.

- refused to reprimand said employee on the call

- had one founder take this extremely sensitive call from his bed with his camera off and on mute.

- After the employees resigned, did not send any sort of public message thanking them for their time at the company.

Can't believe only 21 employees walked. What idiots these founders are. There is no way to defend this poor management even if you agree with the rule they tried to put in

DiNovi··on Why is India having a Covid-19 surge?
What's sad is we have enough evidence to show people they need a vaccine to prevent re-infection, yet it doesnt seem to move the needle for many where vaccines are plentiful
DiNovi··on “About one-third of Basecamp employees accepted buyouts today”
Many who left have been there for 4+ years upwards of 15, an unheard of tenure in tech
DiNovi··on “About one-third of Basecamp employees accepted buyouts today”
Again I don’t get this. 1/3 of basecamp left. They arw basecamp. Basecamp are the people who are leaving! Lol
DiNovi··on “About one-third of Basecamp employees accepted buyouts today”
If 1/3 of your company bolts at once you made a very poor leadership decision. Really, at that point, it has nothing to do with anything else
DiNovi··on “About one-third of Basecamp employees accepted buyouts today”
Yeah I’m surprised it didn’t accelerate tbh. If I saw how Much work was about to be dumped on me I would bolt
DiNovi··on “About one-third of Basecamp employees accepted buyouts today”
There is no long term if you can’t keep the lights on
DiNovi··on “About one-third of Basecamp employees accepted buyouts today”
Just weird to me that people think like this. The obvious issue is poor management and nothing else
DiNovi··on “About one-third of Basecamp employees accepted buyouts today”
Why does your ideal world have so many problems in it?
DiNovi··on “About one-third of Basecamp employees accepted buyouts today”
It makes no business or human sense to have your entire iOS engineering team quit at once with no one to replace them, which happened. It makes no human sense to make your company appear so toxic that it will be difficult to train or even recruit new hires, Etc etc.
DiNovi··on “About one-third of Basecamp employees accepted buyouts today”
It is accurate to say a founder self immolates their company if a decision they made led to 33% attrition in a week
DiNovi··on “About one-third of Basecamp employees accepted buyouts today”
In an ideal world you don’t work at a company that maintains a list of customer names to laugh it. And if you did and someone pointed out how it can become problematic to have foreign names in the list and they tell you why, you don’t self-immolate.

Pretending this list and subsequent lack of discipline isn’t about the founders vanity is very ignorant

DiNovi··on DDT dump site off L.A. coast much bigger than scientists expected
Is the mass amount of pollution that will infect animals through our food chain and lead to many animals and humans lives being stunted for centuries worth it? Just because a chemical is a solution to a problem doesnt absolve it from the numerous other problems it creates for centuries after
DiNovi··on Changes at Basecamp
HR exists to protect the company not the individual
DiNovi··on DDT dump site off L.A. coast much bigger than scientists expected
This is how industrial capitalism is profitable: by socializing the cost of its pollution. If chemical companies had to pay for their damage they wouldn’t exist
DiNovi··on Changes at Basecamp
Ahh, love to ban "censorious" social justice activism.
DiNovi··on Changes at Basecamp
Do we "all know" what they're talking about? it sounds like they don't even know. What they want is not to have to deal with society while making products for society. This will lead to a employee base of purely wealthy white guys, which is clearly what they want
DiNovi··on Changes at Basecamp
> You shouldn't have to wonder if staying out of it means you're complicit

This is a very privileged stance. Stopping dialogue because it makes people queezy just means stopping change from taking hold at their company.

One of their 10x engineers is a nazi and got mad, I will bet $10 dollars

DiNovi··on The day MicroStrategy first bought BTC was the last day gold was above $2000/oz

DiNovi··on A Distinctly American Problem, Police Killings, Needs Systematic Investigation
lmao "Uh, actually, the US is ranked the same as syria and brazil, sounds like someone has an AGENDA" isn't the red hot rebuttal you think it is

I agree the US has a violence problem on par with third world and war torn nations. However, the US is neither of these. Why does the violence persist?

DiNovi··on A Distinctly American Problem, Police Killings, Needs Systematic Investigation
There's a very good, entertaining movie that is great rebuttal to this take. It's called Beverly Hills Cop. give it a watch and then reread what you wrote here lol
DiNovi··on Biden eyeing tax rate as high as 43.4% in next economic package
here's a chart of market returns vs cap gains tax rate, you will notice there is no correlation. So dont argue that there is!

DiNovi··on Biden eyeing tax rate as high as 43.4% in next economic package
capital gains tax doesnt effect investment levels. here's a chart: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EzmSJpLWYAgVY3V?format=png&name=...
DiNovi··on Biden eyeing tax rate as high as 43.4% in next economic package
most countries in the developed world dont have special carve outs for capital gains and tax them as ordinary income
DiNovi··on Biden eyeing tax rate as high as 43.4% in next economic package
the proposal is to remove capital gains and tax it as ordinary income above 1 million, clickbait headline
DiNovi··on Facebook gives money to America’s biggest news organizations
thats one way to end critical coverage
DiNovi··on A Distinctly American Problem, Police Killings, Needs Systematic Investigation
think a bit more on why lots of police could possibly generate high crime rates
DiNovi··on A Distinctly American Problem, Police Killings, Needs Systematic Investigation
If you believe the us has a more violent population than anywhere else in the world, have you ever bothered to interrogate as to why that is?

Or could it be the us has an issue with whay and for How long we allow police and our court systems to punish people? Could it be the us is simply over policed?

No shortage of research on this. I ask you take the time to look into this

DiNovi··on A Distinctly American Problem, Police Killings, Needs Systematic Investigation
Not sure how you look at charts like this and not see that is is a rather unique issue to one country
