Dejital··on Facebook Reports First Quarter 2021 Results [pdf]
After I started posting "Stories" with Facebook, which shows you viewers as well as "likers", I was surprised by how many lurkers there really are. Even lurkers are very much Facebook users, especially when serving ads is concerned.
Dejital··on List of 600+ Startups Hiring Remote in 2018
I like the list, but it would be nice to know the tech stack (if any) as well. As a back-end engineer in C# I know I'm a "minority" in the startups world typically. :)
Dejital··on Ask HN: What tools have most helped your day-to-day productivity?
C# Developer:

- Vi-key bindings in Visual Studio (and VSCode) for editor navigation

- Resharper for code generation and file navigation

- A password manager for maintaining secure passwords

- Todoist to for task management

- Evernote (premium) for notes management

Dejital··on HN Office Hours with Michael Seibel and Aaron Harris
A web app to manage human relationships. Reminders to ping people over varying periods of time, emphasizing note-taking to help stir up conversation topics.

I see myself using this in my personal life, with former business colleagues, as well as when job interviewing.

Dejital··on HN Office Hours with Michael Seibel and Aaron Harris
As an engineer looking to launch an app with a wide target audience, should I focus on marketing to individual niches and gain traction, or explain how my tool can actually help everyone?
Dejital··on Ask HN: Which paid apps and services do you use?

Dejital··on ScummVM ported to HTML5 - play old games in your browser
Monkey Island 2: Lechuck's Revenge had a great demo as well. I might recommend adding that.

Dejital··on The Homely Mutt
I have spent hours and hours configuring my `mutt`, `offlineimap`, `putmail.py`, but I have since grown disenchanted. In my experience, `offlineimap` is annoyingly prone to crashing without any indication. Thus, checking mail within `mutt` becomes unreliable. However, my favorite aspect of `mutt` has been and remains being able to send e-mails very quickly and easily through Terminal.

    echo "Hello World!" | mutt -s "Test E-mail" -a "file.txt" whomever@wherever.com
Therefore, I now use `mutt` exclusively for sending mail and using Gmail.com for reading and searching mail.

Dejital··on Vimwiki
Perhaps a more elegant personal wiki solution is Github's own gollum[1]. It supports markdown as well as a number of other formats.

Dejital··on BitTorrent usage increases in Europe, following the blockade of The Pirate Bay
The purpose of BitTorrent is peer-to-peer file sharing. Period. While it is all too often used for distributing works illegally, its primary purpose is not that. Consider reading the Wikipedia page[1] for some examples of effective and legitimate uses of the protocol.

Dejital··on Ask HN: Movies for Hackers?
Flatland (2007) - Hacker Jr. friendly!
Dejital··on Humble Indie Bundle 5: pay what you want for video games
Further, when you make a purchase, your download link also has an option to increase your donation (in case OP feels that he wants to contribute more than a dollar later one).

And as far as bandwidth goes, there is a Bittorrent download option that probably beats out the Steam servers anyway.

Dejital··on Humble Indie Bundle 5: pay what you want for video games
And effective, apparently. The average has been growing a penny at a time for the last half hour that I've been watching.

Dejital··on Show HN: Snaketron, online multiplayer Snake
At one point I was playing two games at once, from what it looked like! Otherwise, very cool and a lot of fun. On Firefox 12.0
Dejital··on VLC has been downloaded over a billion times
The audio delay issue persists for me in version 2.0.1 like the parent commenter. Among other issues is an increase in random crashing. The new interface isn't particularly inviting, either. Reading through the other comments here has caused me to revert to the older version with which I was never unhappy with.
Dejital··on Show HN: my Mac app just got fireballed
Well done. This is the sort of app you look at and think "Why isn't this built into the operating system already?"
Dejital··on Mozilla Sandstone, Visual style for the Mozilla web universe
I like Tabzilla, and I may make use of it. Whether it's really functionality that people would use is another question.
Dejital··on Show HN: Who represents me in government?
Ditto on Chrome *.162 on Snow Leopard.
Dejital··on Step by Step UI Design
I am incredibly tempted because of that price point! What a wonderfully accessible price.
Dejital··on How to find a short domain name
Great tool. Returned some false positives for me. Also, searching for a specific domain in all lower case will "find" that domain 50 times.
Dejital··on From project to profession: going indie on NewsBlur
Great news! NewsBlur and Pinboard are the only web services I pay for. Very excited to see that you are growing.
Dejital··on Cathode: A terminal app for mac that looks really cool
Performance is poor on my Macbook Pro 17in (late 2010) in full screen. Looks great sized down, and I would love to play around with it, but it seems best suited for full screen. ;)
Dejital··on Turn.js - The page flip effect for HTML5
I believe the virtual book store example was sarcasm.
Dejital··on A revisionist history of the best laptop at any price: the Cr-48
Has anyone had luck installing Linux distributions other than Ubuntu? I'm thinking Arch Linux may be great for this.
