DavideNL··on macOS 27 is so buggy
I bought a Linux laptop about a year ago and installed EndeavourOS (Arch based) with the KDE desktop environment. I expected a "rougher" experience, but it turned out to be more stable than my Macbook Pro Max M1: the exact opposite of what I anticipated.

My Macbook constantly suffers from window management issues, network related bugs, etc. Also i usually wait about a year or so before doing major macOS upgrades to prevent even more problems.

(of course I'm not implying Linux is issue-free... your mileage may vary.)

DavideNL··on PipePipe: NewPipe hard fork implementing SponsorBlock
I use Firefox (and Librewolf), and have no issues.

So, it must be some extension or content blocker list causing that issue?

You mean whether the KOreader software can upgrade itself over Wi-Fi? Yes... it can.
DavideNL··on Why is Hacker News like that?
https://hcker.news/ seems to show flagged posts also by default. This post is on the front page too.

I wish Delta Chat would have a more polished UI... the poor UI / design makes the app unappealing.

lol, made me chuckle.

Tip:

1. install "uBlock Origin", and configure it to "Medium Mode" [1]

2. Install "Obsidian Web Clipper" and use the "Reading View" button to read articles [2]

Trust me, you'll love it.

DavideNL··on Proton Global Outage
Fyi: this is a bug. Workaround: disable your Wi-Fi (yes, seriously.) Note that you can easily test if this works of course…
DavideNL··on Ask HN: Advice on Migrating from 1Password?
What i don't understand is, why Proton Authenticator, which can also sync your 2fa accounts to Proton servers, does not have a separate password (from Proton Pass.)

So anyone who gains access to your Proton Pass account credentials, automatically gets access to your synced 2FA codes too

And obviously you would want to enable syncing your 2fa accounts, in case your device gets stolen / broken / etc.

So the only solution seems to use another 2FA App from another developer.

It has it's own credentials, it's optional: https://proton.me/support/pass-extra-password

DavideNL··on Introducing Ad Blocker for Firefox on iOS
Aren't they like 10+ years late with this? So after all this time, Mozilla comes with a minimal ad-blocker that hardly blocks anything (easylist only, and worse [1] ), compared to all other ad-blockers that have been available on iOS for many years.

I don't understand, maybe i'm missing something...

[1] "Ad Blocker won’t block every ad. Ads served directly by the site you’re visiting and ads shown in search results will still appear."

DavideNL··on Stopping the smart TV from being used against you
I also had to read it twice, if i understand correctly:

If i understand correctly:

1. TV is offline

2. Plug HDMI or DisplayPort into laptop

3. Windows (Update) on laptop recommends to install LG display driver

4. The LG display driver then installs all the bloat

DavideNL··on Proton Global Outage
Ah, k. It's enabled by default in the Proton Pass App.

But not in the browser extension apparently, assuming you are correct.

> > "Nobody speaks about their AI Assistant, but it is really good. "

So this has nothing to do with the Kagi AI assistant then... it's just the model that's perceived as "good". My point is, there are cheaper ways to get access to the model, without a Kagi subscription...

DavideNL··on Proton Global Outage
They do.

In the web browser extension it's a setting called "Pass offline mode", and it's enabled by default.

DavideNL··on Proton Global Outage
It does have a local cache. It's a setting by the way called "Pass offline mode - enabled."

And it's enabled by default.

DavideNL··on Apple announces changes for apps in the European Union
> "is the day I stop buying apple hardware and just use linux laptops again."

I bought a Linux laptop 1 or 2 years ago (after many years of using Macbooks), and was very surprised how well Linux works nowadays.

As a matter of fact, in many areas Linux is even better than macOS. There's so many annoying bugs in macOS that interrupt your workflow on a daily basis. So, my Linux laptop is a lot more stable too.

Would definitely recommend giving Linux a try (Unless maybe if you have very little "tech" knowledge. I would not recommend it to everyone and their grandmother just yet, since they probably aren't aware of the consequences and howto migrate things.)

(for reference: EndeavourOS, KDE)

DavideNL··on Firefox for iOS now has a native adblocker
Unfortunately, Firefox on iOS still can't automatically clear cookies and cache for all websites except those specifically excluded. Which obviously is a big privacy issue in regards to being tracked.

Brave on iOS for example implemented this 2 years ago:

"Auto Shred lets you automatically delete data for specific sites [...] You can configure Auto Shred to happen when all tabs for a site are closed, or on browser restart. Auto Shredding on Site Tabs Closed means that whenever you close the last tab for a site, Brave will automatically Shred that site’s data."
