CodeSheikh··on Frustrated with Tesla and GM, David Einhorn Amps Up Pressure
"Einhorn, whose Greenlight Capital owns 3.6 percent of GM, was equally tough in the letter he sent to shareholders..".

Someone help me understand how come a person/entity who merely owns 3.6% of a company has the right to be this aggressive about the future growth and policy-making of the company?

CodeSheikh··on How Stripe teaches employees to code
It is nice to see how more and more tech companies are taking this initiative to hold on-campus intro to programming classes (mostly it is javascript or python). But before most of these companies decide to teach coding to every single employee, I would first focus on those god awful "tech" project managers who get hired because of some fancy MBA degree and most of the time they have no clue about the complexities of a software project in general.
CodeSheikh··on Why My Handwriting Sucks: A Typographical Analysis
CORRECTION: The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.
CodeSheikh··on New Bridges Rise in New York
Put a new bridge crossing Hudson between west Manhattan and Jersey City to reduce the ACTUAL traffic coming in from New Jersey. Oh wait..they can't as it will bring down inflated real estate in Manhattan held by older folks with convincing power to city planners.
CodeSheikh··on NASA Image Shows Earth Between the Rings of Saturn
Shaq here, a MVP and 4 times NBA championships. That dot looks convincingly flat to me, not round.
CodeSheikh··on 95% engineers in India unfit for software development jobs: study
This is not a US vs India comparison. It is a "controlled" data set study done on Indian engineers trained in India. I am sure a separate study can surface interesting trends about US workforce as well.
CodeSheikh··on Apple has biomedical engineers developing sensors to monitor blood sugar
If Apple nail this one then their Apple Watch sales are going to sky rocket. I have a failing they can, especially with the type of money they have.
CodeSheikh··on Will Spotify go public without an IPO?
"They could also avoid the classic “leave money on the table” scenario, where institutional investors and the other high net worth individuals who have access to IPOs reap all the benefits from the first day’s gains."

Main justification of IPO IMHO is greedy banks, early investors, and underwriters aiming to cash out a lot on the first day without giving a crap about the company or its employees in general.

It is a welcoming step and a step in right direction. Cut the middle man out.

CodeSheikh··on Coming in 2018 – New AWS Region in Sweden
Morocco, South Africa, Dubai could be new regions.
CodeSheikh··on Uber Driver Tip-Hustling Schemes
In some countries tipping is perceived very negatively. I have had my tip money almost thrown on my face as the server accused me of taking him as a "beggar". They earn good money and they take pride in their serving jobs. Greedy American institutions have shoved this concept of tipping down the consumer throats. Increase my food prices or driving rates, and I would be happy to pay them than haggle with every other service industry person about shorting them a $1 or $2.
CodeSheikh··on Musk Bets He Can Fix Aussie Power Woes in 100 Days or It’s Free
Musk wants to capture market. And these days "100 days" is a good term to through around when it comes to meeting expectations and deadlines. But if anyone can do it it is still Elon Musk as of now.
CodeSheikh··on NASA proposes a magnetic shield to protect Mars' atmosphere
"As a result, Mars atmosphere would naturally thicken over time, which lead to many new possibilities for human exploration and colonization.." How long would it take though?
CodeSheikh··on SpaceX to Send Privately Crewed Dragon Spacecraft Beyond the Moon Next Year
Mission name Apollo-X. Anyone?
CodeSheikh··on I am an Uber survivor
I am also assuming some fancy MBA jerk.
CodeSheikh··on I am an Uber survivor
A very sad read. Uber is in deep ethical trouble recently. Postpone that IPO plan guys.

Would not it be better if HR of your company can be managed by some third party with 100% transparency?

CodeSheikh··on Andy Weir’s Best Seller ‘The Martian’ Gets a Classroom-Friendly Makeover
Try going to any social media outlets like Instagram or Twitter or Snapchat and suddenly swear words like "fuck" and "crap" will seem normal. These kids have access to social media these days. Innocence was long gone with the advent of open social media. Good luck modern parents.
CodeSheikh··on Inside NASA’s Space Farming Labs
These are some very EXPENSIVE organic veggies.
CodeSheikh··on WhatsApp launches Status, an encrypted Snapchat Stories clone
This is (mighty) Facebook trying to convey a strong point across to Snapchat by throwing knock out punches from all sides (ephemeral stories in Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp).
CodeSheikh··on 5G Network end-to-end demonstration by Ericsson
Where does LTE sit between 4G and 5G? Was it the true 5G? 4.5G?
CodeSheikh··on Elon Musk: Humans must merge with machines or become irrelevant in AI age
I think the symbiotic relationship b/w humans and machines is more on the lines of interaction based rather than a stereotypical sci-fi chip implant one.
CodeSheikh··on H-1B visas mainly go to Indian outsourcing firms
I agree with "an easier way to permanent residency for those who complete Masters or above in US." part. And yes for dependents to pursue jobs as well and get an equal opportunity at a better livelihood. But some sort of major change needs to happen to silence critics on both sides.
CodeSheikh··on H-1B visas mainly go to Indian outsourcing firms
Why is this being marked down? I am not making up numbers. I am quoting a third party website.
CodeSheikh··on How New York City Gets Its Electricity
This explains why ConEd bill always has higher "delivery" charges in NYC per unit than actual consumption.
CodeSheikh··on The AI Threat Isn’t Skynet – It’s the End of the Middle Class
So us as technologists and engineers contributing towards this AI field, how do we help sustain middle-class? The state of STEM education is unfortunate at public schools here in the USA.
CodeSheikh··on H-1B visas mainly go to Indian outsourcing firms
Top visa recipients are these Indian companions. Just start browsing from year 2017 and backwards. This is very interesting. Numbers do not lie.

Example: Infosys 25k visas vs Google 4k, Apple 1.6k etc.

Infosys pays a sub-par salary of $52k to a systems engineer in Sunnyvale California: http://h1bpay.com/companies/Infosys/cities/Sunnyvale-CA/job-...
CodeSheikh··on H-1B visas mainly go to Indian outsourcing firms
Why don't we just stop accepting visa applications from Indian outsourcing firms—TCS, Wipro and Infosys for one year and see how it unfolds? It will resolve the ongoing debate -- at lease prove it one way or another. From a candidate's point of view, I am all in for finding new opportunities in a foreign prosperous land. But gaming the system is not great for the local US economy. Maybe having a new visa category with temp status and easy renewals every six-months. If those candidates are good enough, they can easily find regular H1-B jobs with regular American companies. Some foreigners spend a lot of money and go through severe hardships to get educated at American universities adhering to American socio-economic values. If they are good enough, they get hired by American companies with regular pays. I think it is unfair for them to get categorized under the same blanket rhetoric of "Abusing of H1-B visas".
CodeSheikh··on The top international cities for software engineers
What about quality of life for "single" people? IN terms of activities etc. It is a huge factor for young people.
CodeSheikh··on FedEx's new service takes aim at Amazon
If FedEx can give better commission cuts than Amazon fulfillment and pretty much same delivery speeds then it is definitely a winning situation for FedEx. I envision a future where no one goes to brick-an-mortar stores anymore. Online shopping experience needs to be made intuitive and personal enough that goods get delivered at home. Two days shipping is good but not as good as same as shipping with minimal shipping costs. Still needs work. We are getting there.
CodeSheikh··on Trump Is Right: Silicon Valley Using H-1B Visas to Pay Low Wages to Immigrants
Agree. It should be a two way street.
