Buge··on Anthony Levandowski ordered to pay $179M to Google
That's an asset, right? So it would be part of the $50-100M
Buge··on Twitter locks WikiLeaks account days before Assange's extradition hearing
What would Hacker News be? If someone posts spam comments on HN are the mods allowed to delete them? If someone writes a false comment is HN liable for that false comment?
Buge··on Time safety is more important than memory safety
From the title you might think it's talking about safety from pathologically slow inputs. Especially considering there's a different post also on the front page right now about that exact thing.

I don't really understand your comment. A female shortage is compatible with men buying many houses to attract women. Men wouldn't be trying to turn lesbian women heterosexual with houses. Men would be trying to attract women away from other men with houses. The men would be fighting each other.

When there's a word with 2 meanings that are almost opposites of each other, that's confusing. I think it's good to avoid using words in confusing ways like that.

Buge··on Low unemployment isn’t worth much if the jobs barely pay
> Another part is the fact that quality education is insanely high-priced because a parent has to pay for the public and the private system concurrently. This pressure pushes private tuitions upward and makes the private schools more exclusive because they can't take on kids below certain income thresholds at all.

How does that hurt public schools? I would assume that would help public schools. Because instead of the top 50% of kids (e.g.) going to private schools, now only the top 10% of kids go to private schools. Thus public schools are filled with smarter kids.

Buge··on Ask HN: I've been slacking off at Google for 6 years. How can I stop this?
> I see my mission at work in carefully educating the overly enthusiastic co-workers by dropping a few seemingly random hints or observations that make them think and challenge their beliefs.

Your mission is to make enthusiastic co-workers less enthusiastic? Why?

Just because an agency has lost credibility doesn't mean it has lost power.

Many people say Trump has lost credibility, but he still has power.

> (Presumably tracking prevention will eventually start to block cookies with samesite disabled).

This means the privacy advantage doesn't really come now, it instead comes at some hypothetical point in the future.

I think the problem is that canvas can be GPU-accelerated, and GPUs don't have an exact standard for how each pixel will look.

Why None instead of Lax? The uses cases you mentioned for the None cookie seem like they would still work with a Lax cookie.

You're right, the benefit isn't really about character differences. In both cases users need to be taught that '-' isn't a divider and '.' is a divider. The benefit is that it would be easier to teach people to start on the left then search right than it is to teach people to start at the leftmost / (but not the ones in the scheme) then search left.
Buge··on When good ideas make bad business
If American consumers stop subsidizing health care R&D costs, what will happen to the R&D? Will it decrease? Will health care costs in other countries increase as they start to bear some of it?

Look at these 2:

There's just a single character difference. The layperson will think they mean the same thing. Now look at these 2:

    https://info.billing-update-jan02.uk.co.ee

There's a big difference there. People can easily see something is abnormal.

>Is it common that an article is posted for 3 days in a row and it is [DEAD]?

According to what you said previously, it was only dead the first out of 3 times, and even that one is no longer dead. Maybe some people flagged it or downvoted it the first time.

Things being reposted repeatedly to HN and taking off on later reposts is quite common[1][2][3]. Reposting is explicitly allowed in the FAQ[4].

You're right, I think an attack could be possible on some computers if the agents act very quickly. I don't think 30 minutes would be possible though, judging from what is said and shown in the original cold boot video:
