Belphemur··on Percentage of Europeans Who Are Willing to Fight a War for Their Country
A little of geographical context could help other understand, Finland situation.

Finland has a border with Russia and a big history with them.

Lots of Finn I met think Russia could come any day hence the need for a military force ready to fight.

Belphemur··on Percentage of Europeans Who Are Willing to Fight a War for Their Country
An ally come to help when in needs.

America wedged war for financial gain not for helping anybody. Why its ally would need to help when there is a no real need for the war in the first place.

Belphemur··on The first Bitcoin Cash block has been mined
Kraken made it also quite clear, like 1 BTC in your account = 1 BCC.

And BCC will start at 0.01 BTC.

To me you don't need to be a developer to understand that.

Belphemur··on Krita Foundation in Trouble
Could you start a partnership to sell t-shirt with your logo or even simple stickers. Something that could be tracked.

Or complete misunderstanding of company culture...

I guess this kind of talk would have worked at Uber or other companies build on other type of value.

It doesn't make it less problematic.

Belphemur··on China Tells Carriers to Block Access to Personal VPNs by February
I guess it's for the tourist that where in China when it happened.
Belphemur··on Star Citizen is likely in financial trouble
I guess to make conclusion we would need a disclosure from the studio.

The reputation of the bank and the way they approve client is relevant. It doesn't reduce the fact they took money, but again without a break down of the term we can only speculate the reason.

Saying "they'll fail" because of this loan is making a hasty conclusion.

Belphemur··on Star Citizen is likely in financial trouble
To quote a reddit comment :

I should point out that this is not necessarily a bad thing, nor is it clear what the loan is for. What this tells us is that money has been loaned and secured against assets owned by CIG - this is fairly common practice in the case of commercial loans.

To bank with Coutts you must have at least £1,000,000 in tangible assets and in any event they are selective about their clientele; which implies CIG is doing well.

To be honest as much as the terms are huge, they didn't go to a loan shark neither a shitty bank. It's the bank that manage the assets of the Queen. I don't think they give loan that easily hence the huge collaterals.

Belphemur··on GitHub API Authentication using OAuth 2.0
Insomnia is great for single user.

But for teams, synchronizing their different request. It was a mess with insomnia couple of versions ago.

But the product improves really fast and I won't be surprised in couple of month it will have reproduced most of the strength of Postman.

For now, I'll still stick to postman.

Belphemur··on If companies interviewed translators the way they interview coders
The documentation is great when you know what you're looking for.

When you don't exactly, SO is a good pointer to the part of the documentation you didn't know.

Belphemur··on Silk Road founder loses appeal
Drug was only one of the item on sale.

You had also assassination, children, organs, human trafficking, and more that I can't remember.

I agree with you on the point of the drug, but the rest... Is disgusting.

They could have already moved a part of the coins to an exchange.

Belphemur··on Human rights activist risks prison over refusal to disclose password to police
I'd prefer a clean partition with some unconspicuous data on it.

Better that way then they won't dig more into the phone.

Belphemur··on Don't tell people to turn off Windows Update
And also taking multiple Gb of your hdd for the sake of optimizing a one time executed update.

When you have a small SSD it sucks.

Belphemur··on “Ghost in the Shell - Remake”
Someone pulled thd public keys of github and created a ssh server that would greet you by your username/name.

Configuring your ssh correctly would avoid a specific system to link you to another one. More privacy issue than security.

Belphemur··on Ask HN: Best business advice for software developers
Small clients > one big client

Especially at the beginning, you read here how often big clients can put you under at the beginning because you're not ready to deal with them.

Belphemur··on United removes first-class passenger to make room for 'higher-priority' traveler
What a lack of professionalism.

The customer even paid premium price to be in first class and instead of being notified at the gate, like any respectable airline would do, he's asked to give his seat to somebody "more important" than him when already seated.

It doesn't make any sense, if that "more important person" came later, he should be the one getting compensated by the airline especially when the problem occurred because United needed to change the plane for a smaller one.

You don't kick customer, you compensate them.

Belphemur··on Facebook activated my dormant account and won’t let me deactivate it
When you own pages you can use Facebook advertising system to #feature# your page on it.

Same way Google do with adword on their search page.

Belphemur··on Netflix expected to spend over $6B on original and acquired programming in 2017
When you see that the content holder make it harder and harder for Netflix to license their content, it makes senses to invest so much money on creating their own content.

It seems in the end, we're really returning to the cable era.

Be ready for packages giving you access to Netflix, Amazon, and channels...

Belphemur··on The new £1 Coin
False.

The vending machine use setup of electromagnet to recognize the coin, not their size. [1]

Belphemur··on Happiness report: Norway is the happiest place on earth
It's a double sided sword.

You have a harder time getting people to agree on policies and ideas when different culture are involved.

Belphemur··on The new legend of Zelda is a toy box of delights
As an owner of the switch and the game. Nope not any issue you read online. No problem with the joy con, no performance problem (either handheld or TV). No dead pixels.

I bought the carrying box for it, then no scratch on the screen. Battery life is good when used in transport (forget about road trips of more than 3-4h).

The game slow a little down when there is a huge amount of grass, but it doesn't impede the gaming experience.

All in all, I'm really happy with my purchase and I don't get how so many people have so many issues with it.

Belphemur··on Runner Disqualified After Claiming 2nd Place in Fort Lauderdale Half Marathon
I think you're missing the big picture. As said in the parent, other news are covering also the story with her real name and pictures.

It's a shame fest with media trying to give as much info on the woman they can. Not this article in particular, but the coverage of the story is borderline hateful. The Internet don't like cheater.

Belphemur··on Ask HN: Does anyone dream of code?
When I started coding I took upon a task way over my beginner skills.

I was working on a Minecraft plugin to give the player the ability to access a virtual chest.

I had to dive in the code of Minecraft so deeply that I started dreaming of creeper exploding in my code.

Belphemur··on Misophonia: Scientists crack why eating sounds can make people angry
I think I suffer from the same symptoms, but weirdly enough, if I'm at table and I got food, there is no problem.

Even if I finish first and the other are still eating, it's really only when I didn't eat / not eating that it infuriate me.

Belphemur··on Wine 2.0 released
Yes but not all the user would have it set up. They surely consider that the majority of the users don't.

Maybe the policy about rejecting debian reports came way before they setup the repository.
