Those methods have improved, in some places. Some (should be all) bus stops in our area have realtime info displays of schedules, weather, news - and of course, Ads.

Similar experience using Firefox. I don't have extensions or userscripts specifically blocking html5, but I'll check my user.js settings.

'Now'??!? Youtube's search has been literally broken for more than a year, several of us mentioned this on HN months ago.

e.g. Y-search used to honor the operators like 'intitle:' and `|` like G-search, but that functionality is long gone. I'm not even convinced '-' works anymore.

Nothing's gonna save their query system except Google's backend engineers. Good luck waiting for that.

Interesting; my experience has differed: I noticed since late 2022 (last year) Youtube Search was essentially ignoring my exact queries, giving only the first two or so result matching the query - the rest of the results aren't even marginally related.

Worse--this behavior continues, and has gotten so bad that today searching is all but useless to me.
