BadHumans··on U.S. homelessness jumps to record high amid affordable housing shortage
Illegal crossing does not mean there are 11 million immigrants in the US. Biden has also done a record number of deportations in his presidency.
BadHumans··on U.S. homelessness jumps to record high amid affordable housing shortage
The answer is both.
BadHumans··on U.S. homelessness jumps to record high amid affordable housing shortage
Public housing is housing owned and managed by the government. It could be the same copy paste apartment blocks but owned by your city or state government. Despite public housing always being connected to affordable housing, it does not have to be affordable housing to be public housing.
BadHumans··on Google's Results Are Infested, Open AI Is Using Their Playbook from the 2000s
Not anymore. Prabhakar was promoted from Head of Search to Chief Technologist whatever that means.
BadHumans··on Parents of OpenAI Whistleblower Don't Believe He Died by Suicide, Order Autopsy
Gather and label are two wildly different things that change the entire context. They aren't saying go find this stuff for us, they are saying if people upload it or you find it in the data then, label it as such.
BadHumans··on Plasticlist Report – Data on plastic chemicals in Bay Area foods
It's skewed towards what a bunch of Bay area college students and their friends eat. Seems accurate to me.
BadHumans··on Parents of OpenAI Whistleblower Don't Believe He Died by Suicide, Order Autopsy
John Barnett I believe. The one who showed up dead outside a hotel.
BadHumans··on Parents of OpenAI Whistleblower Don't Believe He Died by Suicide, Order Autopsy
Citation on that?
BadHumans··on Parents of OpenAI Whistleblower Don't Believe He Died by Suicide, Order Autopsy
The only Boeing whistleblower I know of is the one that is dead.
BadHumans··on Parents of OpenAI Whistleblower Don't Believe He Died by Suicide, Order Autopsy
This is where I stand. I think corporations have assassinated whistleblowers in the past, maybe even the very recent past, but I don't see what they stand to gain here unless they were just sending a message to everyone else.
BadHumans··on Denmark Offers to Buy USA (2019)
Denmark can buy my citizenship if they would like. I like beer and football, I'm sure I can be Danish.
BadHumans··on Ask HN: What skills do you want to develop or improve in 2025?
> Marketing. I'm hopeless at it, and I need to be at least OK at it in order for my project (https://nuenki.app) to succeed.

This project looks great and the homepage does a great job at explaining what it does. Especially the slider. And it supports Firefox which is a rarity in this space. I think you should take pride in what you have accomplished from a communication perspective.

BadHumans··on Ask HN: What skills do you want to develop or improve in 2025?
I would recommend you read Tiny Habits by Dr BJ Fogg. A lot of people recommend Atomic Habits but I will go against the grain and say I don't think Atomic Habits is a good book and Tiny Habits is a much better read.
BadHumans··on Court of Milan orders Cloudflare to block ‘piracy shield’ domains, IP addresses
Take it up with the government that forced the choice.
BadHumans··on Apple seeks to defend Google's billion-dollar payments in search case
What's the problem with option 1? Users have a choice on what to pick, they pick Google because they prefer Google. Is users having choice foreign to Apple?
BadHumans··on Court of Milan orders Cloudflare to block ‘piracy shield’ domains, IP addresses
The article says Cloudflare has tried to geoblock just certain IPs in Italy but what if Cloudflare tells Italy to stuff it and just withdraws from providing services to the country entirely?
BadHumans··on New research suggests that Walmart makes the communities it operates in poorer
I'm assuming this isn't a random hypothetical but I don't know what shoe company you are talking about.
BadHumans··on On the nature of computing science (1984)
People are very capable of good design but are not given time to do good design. Temporary band-aids become permanent fixtures and eventually the company is drowning in tech debt. It is a tale as old as time.
BadHumans··on One way to fight loneliness: Germans call it a Stammtisch
People bash on incels because they blame women for all the problems in their life.
BadHumans··on Feed readers which don't take "no" for an answer
At my company we have seen a massive increase in bot traffic since LLMs have become mainstream. Blocking known OpenAI and Anthropic crawlers has decreased traffic somewhat so I agree with your theory.
BadHumans··on Squirrels hunting and eating meat
Everything will eat anything if its hungry enough but to say there is no better food is a broad statement I'm not comfortable agreeing with.
BadHumans··on AIs Will Increasingly Attempt Shenanigans
I think people are missing the forest for the trees by focusing on the word intelligence. As a very extreme example, if an AI were to launch a nuke, whether it happened as a result of true intelligence or as a result of a Markov chain doesn't change the end result.
BadHumans··on CDC confirms first severe human case of bird flu in U.S.
I'm pretty sure the OP is being sarcastic.
BadHumans··on Interpol wants everyone to stop saying 'pig butchering'
Responsibility for what? This is such an asinine statement.
BadHumans··on Interpol wants everyone to stop saying 'pig butchering'
Pig butchering was the literal Chinese translation which is why the name got around to begin with. You find it dehumanizing or whatever then cool but it's not like we drew names out of a hat and landed on that one.
BadHumans··on FTC bans hidden junk fees in hotel, event ticket prices
Do you expect there to have been studies done on what percentage of the population puts profit over everything else?

> What does "virtually" mean?

virtually /vûr′choo͞-ə-lē/ adverb Almost but not quite; nearly.

BadHumans··on Getting to 2M users as a one woman dev team [video]
> Are we not at a point where it would be vastly more appropriate to title this "one person dev team"?

People see person and man as synonyms. One man dev team and one person dev team would illicit the same response but one woman dev team forces people to comment on the title.

BadHumans··on Microsoft Confirms Password Deletion for 1B Users
I use easy to remember plain text passwords for services that are low risk. It's a spectrum. I'm not concerned about someone hacking into my Hacker News account for example but I am very concerned about someone breaching my bank.
BadHumans··on Lard is healthier than sunflower oil (2015)
I know the author in the sense that I know who it was written by, I don't know his reputation or how credible he is and where it was published does matter. If this Stephen Hawking published in the National Enquirer people would justifiably be wondering if it was a joke.
BadHumans··on Lard is healthier than sunflower oil
I read the entire thing and who it was written by does not change how I feel about it or the dailymail
