BadCRC··on Show HN: Free hi-resolution photos for your website. 10 new photos every 10 days
but then it's crappy
BadCRC··on Mac OS Screenshot does not Allow DVD Player to Appear in Captured Region
it's not because of hardware acceleration at all. It's actively preventing the window to be captured (I believe iTunes does some similar). It uses a private API and an example is here:

BadCRC··on Xbox One forces gamers to pay for games borrowed from friends
isn't this how Steam (the platform gamers love) already works?
BadCRC··on Inside AT&T’s 83 GB/hour mobile cell tower
what do the AT&T vans connect to? I assume that there is no landline available for them to hook into, so how are they providing service?

my guess is satellites or communicating with other cell towers but the latter seems counterproductive as it would push a high load to a different cell tower. but if they used satellites, wouldn't there by high latency and bandwidth limits?

BadCRC··on Skype backdoor confirmation
but the linked page doesn't prove that it is.
BadCRC··on Fish shell 2.0
he's still listed on LinkedIn as working there..
BadCRC··on A 75-Year Harvard Study Finds What It Takes To Live A Happy Life
did they isolate correlation from causation yet though..?
BadCRC··on Firefox OS puts a good $50 smartphone within reach
where does it say that the phone will retail for $50? The author implies it and refers to the phone as though he was actually able to obtain one for about $50..
BadCRC··on Https URLs posted in private Skype chats visited by Microsoft
couldn't they be using this to prevent/detect spam?

edit: the article claims this can't be so because the page only does a HEAD request, though a HEAD request could be useful if you wanted to detect an HTTPS domain with ephemeral pages (which perhaps, could be a good feature in detecting spam domains)

BadCRC··on Millions Watch Netflix Without Paying [video]
how would you watch the new season of Arrested Development?
BadCRC··on Get that job at Facebook (2012)
one I was given in an interview:

You're working on the front-end development for a chatting website. Each conversation gets it's own 100x200px div and they are placed on the screen such that two conversation windows are never intersecting.

We want to display a new conversation window, write an algorithm to determine where a conversation can be placed such that it does not overlap with any current conversations. Assume that the website is being displayed at 1024x1280px.

BadCRC··on Why I almost remained a government employee and why I did not
two spaces after every period.
BadCRC··on Paypal President: We're thinking about adding Bitcoin (2:50) [video]
> Strictly speaking, the supply is inflating continuously

what about Bitcoins being lost? perhaps we should also consider coins that are not used in the past five years also "lost".

BadCRC··on Weighted/Biased Random Number Generation with JavaScript based on Probability
why not have a dynamic multiplier based on the weights? rather than just 100x
BadCRC··on Why startups should care about App.net
so it's like Facebook but with less users and a less developed API?
BadCRC··on Firefox 23 will block non-SSL content on SSL pages by default
like worrying about twice as many hits to stylesheets (which are typically static content)
BadCRC··on Bitcoin Is Fundamentally Flawed
> Everyone knows if you save starting in your early 20s compounding interest it will be worth a ton more in 10 years, 20 years, etc.

How are you expecting to get a ton more after 20 years? Even with a ridiculous constant real interest rate of 5%, you'll get only 2.6x your original investment after 20 years.

BadCRC··on Interns: Everything you need to know about a summer in the Bay Area in one place
I was able to find a FURNISHED bedroom from $1450/mth in the heart of the Mission.

Prices has gone up but it seems like people have gotten worse at finding places or switched to using airbnb more (which is way more expensive).

BadCRC··on Google Maps One-Hand Zoom on iPhone
it's actually better this way, it's harder to aim when you're double tapping but easy to swipe one area to the center.
BadCRC··on Show HN: Load this image from a peer rather than from a web server (open source)
a red checkmark is bad to indicate failing, you should use a red X instead..

BadCRC··on PHP: The Right Way
These guidelines won't save you from some bullshit PHP "rules", such as: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5810168/php-foreach-by-re...
BadCRC··on Taxi Medallions: New York's taxi system makes fares higher and drivers poorer
The 30 minutes bit may be true but in this case, the cab driver would not be rushing as there would be no way the driver could return to the airport in time to beat the queue.

The article does not state that the driver was aware of any mechanical problem but only that "he had smelled smoke".

BadCRC··on Taxi Medallions: New York's taxi system makes fares higher and drivers poorer
The case you cited does not match what you claim.

The round time from SFO to Mark Hopkins San Francisco hotel (where the couple was travelling) is at least 40 minutes and the cab driver was driving from SFO, not to it.

BadCRC··on The Haskell / Snap ecosystem is as productive (or more) than Ruby/Rails.
I really hope Haskell/Snap starts getting picked up by everyday web developers so someone can start exposing ridiculous things like:
