I'm an all-around programmer interested in different technologies and languages with an experience of around 5 years. I became a freelancer over 2 years ago, left home in Russia, relocated to Southeast Asia and since then have been learning as much as I could and had to working full-time. As a freelancer, I learned I could come up with the zinger of a solution to a problem I have if it could be solved at all. And I'm the one who would be responsible for getting it solved.

I'm also stoked about learning functional programming, finance and IT security.

AlexNeoNomad··on Ask HN: How to price yourself?
If you go to freelance, don't make your price lower than $20, even for a beginner it's a normal price. I'm disappointed and desperate to see A LOT OF indians and people from SE Asia who are ready to work for a plate of rice, they are ready to work for $5! Don't be that stupid.

That situation also affects the employers: they see so low prices and they consider that normal. If I were to ask those employers: would you be able to survive in your country (mostly America) for $5-10 per hour, I'd be stoked to listen to their answers!

AlexNeoNomad··on How I work as a digital nomad
1) So if I make a coffee for myself while I'm in Thailand - I do an illegal work in Thailand?

2) Why not? That's exactly according to you. If not, tell me what it is that goes against your definition.

3) Because in !every country! in order to work you need a work visa unless this is your home country.

AlexNeoNomad··on How I work as a digital nomad
1) And what Thai law consider work exactly?

2) According to you, if a businessman comes to Thailand to rest for 2 weeks and decided to do some work for one day on his laptop (which he brought with him) then he'll become a criminal and can be taken to a jail.

3) According to you, millions of people break this law every day: they come from their countries to other country and once they reply or send an email (or something like that) - they are criminals!!!

AlexNeoNomad··on How I work as a digital nomad
And they don't have to.

The work he does doesn't relate to Thailand at all. Do you think if someone is going to stay in Thailand for 2 weeks and work online, they'll going to get a work visa? For what? Where's a company? People? Office? For 2 weeks? And they'll have to do the same thing for any country they go? That's bunk!

He doesn't break a law working online! unless he receives money to a Thai bank.

AlexNeoNomad··on How I work as a digital nomad
it's a given, if you read a post like this, it'll be about Thailand in some way.
AlexNeoNomad··on What was your best passive income in 2014?
What do you mean by "settled on just doing it in-house using downloaded data”? Did you build your dataset completely by yourself by parsing data from Google and saving it?
AlexNeoNomad··on What was your best passive income in 2014?
By the way, how big is your dataset: millions, billions records for the U.S.? Or how many (approximately) records are there for, let's say, Washington city or LA?
AlexNeoNomad··on What was your best passive income in 2014?
Thanks, more clear now. So where does your service perform a search (fetch data from)? Does it use Google itself? Is it just mediator between an end user and google maps which gives the end user more freedom than google maps does?
AlexNeoNomad··on What was your best passive income in 2014?
Can't people just make a request to google maps? Why do they you use your service instead? In what sense is it better (if it is)?
AlexNeoNomad··on Show HN: NomadList – The best cities to live and work remotely in
I agree. After 2 months there I became awfully bored as almost no one spoke English as well as anywhere in Thailand (normal English, not just "yes", "no").

Yes, it's a nice city for living but if you're not alone. Don't forget about the troubles about the visas and visa-runs.

AlexNeoNomad··on Show HN: NomadList – The best cities to live and work remotely in
I knew that Chiang Mai would've been there surely.
