I'm in the unfortunate position that I'm in this maintenance nightmare at work. Though I solved this specific issue months ago. There will be many like it to come.

ASinclair··on Europeans drain billions from banks, fed up with shrinking savings
Yea. The point I was trying to make is the bank is losing that liquidity. It doesn't have your deposits to loan out since you directly loaned them out in the form of things like Treasuries. That is a problem for the banks and why the article says Europeans are "draining billions from banks."
ASinclair··on Europeans drain billions from banks, fed up with shrinking savings
> In the end, I think it is just shuffling money between banks.

I don't think so. As I understand it moving into a Money Market Fund means a bank can't loan out your deposit anymore. Think investing in a Vanguard Money Market Mutual Fund like VMFXX. Vanguard can't loan those funds out.

ASinclair··on Show HN: Simulate dollar-cost averaging in any mix of stocks
I stand corrected.

> Vanguard specifically discusses the confusion in their paper: "We refer to the gradual investment of a large sum as a systematic implementation plan or systematic investment plan. Industry practice is to refer to such strategies as dollar-cost averaging; however, this term is also commonly used to describe fixed-dollar investments made over time from current income as it becomes available. (A familiar example of this form of dollar-cost averaging is regular payroll deductions for investment in a workplace retirement plan.) By contrast, we are describing a situation in which a lump sum of cash is immediately available for investment."

ASinclair··on Show HN: Simulate dollar-cost averaging in any mix of stocks
> Dollar cost averaging works when you have a steady stream of income that you're contributing to your investments and you have a heavily diversified portfolio.

To be pedantic (this is Hacker News after all), that is not Dollar cost averaging. That's lump sum investing at a regular interval.

Dollar cost averaging assumes you start with a pot of money and you choose to invest fractions of that initial pot over time. This is opposed to lump sum investing in which you'd invest the full pot of money at the start.

ASinclair··on Leaked Amazon memo warns the company is running out of people to hire

I'm pretty sure they just doubled the salary cap. That doesn't necessarily mean everyone's salary was doubled.

ASinclair··on Career advice nobody gave me: Never ignore a recruiter

> if it were a real problem why has hospital capacity been in decline this entire pandemic

We filled hospitals over capacity and burned out healthcare workers. They decided to quit rather than work in such conditions. Don't overwork healthcare workers and maybe they won't burnout so quickly.

ASinclair··on The case against masks at school

The vaccines still reduce the likelihood of infection and thus slow the spread of Covid. It's true their effectiveness against Omicron is reduced compared to prior variants.

> There would have been so much less confusion if they were consistent with their communication from the start, and did a phased rollout of the booster just like they did with the original vaccine.
