486sx33··on What Meta got right with Muse
It’s the most consistent and user friendly agent with the ability to also be a harness for multiple custom agents. I literally had people running around the office amazed by muse last week. It has brought agents to the masses in a way a lay person can understand and use.
486sx33··on Bill Gates tries to install MovieMaker (2003)
Interestingly, Gupta didn’t reply at all, despite being named on bill’s original email directly. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/research/people/anoop/ He was natural-user-interface director at the time
486sx33··on Uber shuts operations in Nigeria and Uganda with immediate effect
30% is fair. Don’t like it start a cab company
486sx33··on Dutch central bank moves share of gold from U.S., Canada to London
They did freeze bank accounts though, and in other countries with democracy, citizens are allowed to protest, “occupy” and nazi flags are free speech. Mentioning guns is hyperbole, zero protesters shot anyone. Now, the government DID take peoples rights away and their bank accounts . Very important.
486sx33··on U.S. State Department pauses immigrant visa applications
Not until all Americans who can work have jobs
486sx33··on Multicast TV Distribution on My Home Network
What would be great is if there was a “box” I could program 50 or 100 digital channels to IPTV channels and just flip channels on the tv and the box changed IPTV sources. anything like this that’s consumer grade available that works with M3U playlist
486sx33··on Tenda firmware (multiple versions) contains hidden authentication backdoor
Some routers specifically allow openWRT.. example, Routers like the GL.iNet GL-MT6000 (Flint 2) and TP-Link Archer AX6000 come with OpenWrt pre-installed and are designed for easy OpenWrt use.
486sx33··on Windows CE Dreamcast Community Edition (wince-dc)
I actually love this because the entire time I owned a Dreamcast I used to look at the windows CE logo on the front and think, does it have windows CE in ROM? How can I boot it?
486sx33··on As banks close accounts, experts point to immigration crackdown
Walmart supports Apple pay in Canada , so does Home Depot.

Anyway , monero for a PoS crypto system sounds amazing. Do you know if any North America support this? If so specifically which brand / company / provider ?

486sx33··on Canada plans 'nuclear renaissance' with up to 10 reactors built by 2040
It’s not that far off, a major benefit is insitu refueling, so that’s a major reason it looks like that.
486sx33··on Canada plans 'nuclear renaissance' with up to 10 reactors built by 2040
It shouldn’t be the first time, this is what natural gas peaker plants have been about for 20 years. Solar and wind can’t sync the grid, they require sync or the grid collapses. Sync (Hz) can only be provided by base load that quickly spin up or down to balance out the frequency of the grid
486sx33··on Can the stockmarket swallow Anthropic, SpaceX and OpenAI?
It’s unfortunate, but this exact sentiment precludes every market crash. Just before dotcom burst it was the same thing. Technology will change everything the nasdaq will continue to grow in the technology age, etc etc. eventually the chickens come home to roost as they say
486sx33··on The Pirate Bay Remains Resilient, 20 Years After the Raid
This is the key, streaming content providers delete and edit things to match the feeling of society at the moment or perceived societal pressures. Really not how history should work imho
486sx33··on Additive Blending on the Nintendo 64
Rare got all kinds of privileges, heck they developed their own unofficial dev kit. https://www.behindthecode.ca/rareware-n64dev/
486sx33··on Tesla Wall Connector bootloader bypasses the firmware downgrade ratchet
Why would I want to hack the bootloader for a wall charger? Asking for a friend
486sx33··on America's carpet capital: an empire and its toxic legacy
No one dunks finished carpet in dye. The dye house dyes the fiber, pre construction. https://youtu.be/FG2-af0xYOA

The treatments like stain master are/were the problem, not the dye.

Carpet is a wonderful product, even polys. It’s good we’re having a conversation about it, but vinyl flooring has far out passed carpet , and it is full of awful carcinogens, made in china, not disclosed, secret recipes. But , it can be unstable and release into your home / office / work place

486sx33··on Higher usage limits for Claude and a compute deal with SpaceX
They did not require permits at the time as they were portable Think transport trailer sized. If you use portable power for under 365 days a year, an epa permit was not required. They changed the rules on permitting after and xAI complied
486sx33··on DOS Memory Management
We did special boot disks to strip out everything but what was needed for the game, but sometimes we still couldn’t make it One day I went to a friends house and he had like way more conventional memory in memtest! What the hell I spent hours and days getting 620kb

He was running Dr -dos

486sx33··on How were video transfers made? (2011)
Even into the 2010s I knew of use of professional betacam (HDCAM) cassettes.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betacam

486sx33··on Defeating a 40-year-old copy protection dongle
Eventually NetZero forced you to use their own dialer to ensure you kept the ads running… but you could spy on the ppp connection by just opening the COM port of your modem in terminal and watching. The password was encrypted (xor?) but you could just copy and paste the value into a regular dialer lol
486sx33··on Why do users happily use my AI tool but refuse to pay for it?
There’s little value in software and no value in annual recurring subscriptions to people. If you solve a large enough problem that a person can use to make themselves money, then you can become an overhead cost of doing business. My household has zero recurring subscriptions now.

Two things jump out at me also 1. The first thing I see is “it’s free”. Then further down the page buy credits. I really don’t want to buy credits in your walled garden that I don’t understand yet. But what the heck I’ll try, next click my only option is to continue with google. Nah I’m not looking to login to a completely unknown product with my google account credentials.

It feels painful on top of I don’t know what I’m buying or why I’d buy it. It’s a canva clone? Or ?

486sx33··on The IPv4 address swamp: The new normal
Huh A single prefix is easier on the router than a dozen.. I should hope so? Isn’t this kind of like saying the grade 1 math test is easier than the grade 12 math test ?
486sx33··on Microsoft has a problem: lack of demand for its AI products
Context “ https://www.cbsnews.com/news/microsoft-shuts-down-ai-chatbot... “
486sx33··on Chainalysis Successful Deanonymization Attack on Monero
It’s fairly easy to decrease susceptibility to this attack. #1 run your own node #2 monitor the nodes you are connected to with “sync_info” #3 ban nodes that aren’t up to current block height, strange port connections, and connections from typical spy IP addresses. There could still be a spy node connected when you send your transaction but it won’t have a very high probability of originating from any particular place
486sx33··on An official atlas of North Korea
My grandfather built that railway in a supervisor capacity in Labrador. My dad was born in sept illes because of it. It was once very important but now a footnote. It moved iron ore in the 60s / 70s
486sx33··on Gmail will no longer support checking emails from third-party accounts via POP
We’re Gsuite because it happened before I joined the org and it’s just too much of a pain to switch and get everyone re trained off of google apps

Zoho has a lot of nice features and seems less evil. The ticket tracking email system is a really nice feature

486sx33··on Used EVs have never been cheaper. But are they a good deal?
Charging at home is part of the problem. They need to separately meter power for cars and increase the rate and add a road maintenance tax based on vehicle weight.
486sx33··on I am giving up on Intel and have bought an AMD Ryzen 9950X3D
My 5950 didn’t like liquid cooling and lives very well with air cooling :)
486sx33··on H-1B Visa Changes Approved by White House
H-1B visas should not be given to software devs. They can work from anywhere with just a laptop and starlink.
486sx33··on H-1B Visa Changes Approved by White House
