486sx33··on Outlook classic dropped from Microsoft 365
It is unless you use old/legacy outlook. The “new” outlook is electron/webapp
486sx33··on Outlook classic dropped from Microsoft 365
It means you can get through 300 emails in 1/10 the time as you can in Gmail. Outlook’s layout and software is FAST.

Once it goes web or “new” it’s a laggy piece of crap, still maybe not as bad as g suite though

This sounds awful I hate teams and try to never use it

I did like BBM BB on Android “hub” was horrid

486sx33··on Don't Delete to Fix
Actually if my toaster stops working I do throw it in the trash because it’s cheaper to buy a new one than invest my time and money into a broken one.

The only reason people are calling you for service after is because there isn’t an easy viable alternative to your software.

So stop blaming your customers and do better testing :) If you don’t, someone will make a better product than yours because there is opportunity in that marketplace

486sx33··on US could cut Ukraine's access to Starlink services over minerals, say sources
No it’s not irrelevant it’s still owed.
486sx33··on Delta offers $30k to passengers in Canada plane flip
How would delta airlines offer something tax free? It’s income, you’ll pay tax on it !
486sx33··on The 8-Bit Era's Weird Uncle: The TI-99/4A
My uncle had one of these and it was the first machine I ever used. I can still remember the mechanic click of the keys and the feel of the joystick.

Loved this game https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TI_Invaders

They bought this machine because it was the best value for the hardware specs. I didn’t realize TI actually lost money on the hardware until reading this article

486sx33··on "Test your adblocker" websites can harm users and the adblocker ecosystem
Right, either release a better quality Adblock tester or stop whining? People need to test somehow.

Zelenskyy is also the aggressor when he invaded Russia. You cannot blame Putin for Ukraine being corrupt and not holding elections.

486sx33··on Why US Refiners Won't Ditch Canadian Crude
This sounds a bit like “nationalization” of foreign companies. A route that places like Cuba and Venezuela took.
486sx33··on Why US Refiners Won't Ditch Canadian Crude
Interestingly enough some of the US nuclear bombs contained Canadian made plutonium

“ Despite the declaration of peaceful use, from 1955 to 1985, Chalk River facilities supplied about 254.2 kilograms (560 lb) of plutonium, in the form of spent reactor fuel, to the U.S. Department of Energy to be used in the production of nuclear weapons.[3] (The bomb dropped on Nagasaki, Japan, used about 6.4 kilograms (14 lb) of plutonium.)”

List of all the tariffs Canada currently has in place against the United States. Not to mention supply management of dairy and foreign home owners tax, perhaps more importantly a digital services tax against the United States that’s retroactive to 2022!

Sorry eh, but this is totally unfair trade.

486sx33··on The European VAT Is Not a Discriminatory Tax Against US Exports
In Linux terms, it’s GPL and it “infects” everything it touches :)
486sx33··on The European VAT Is Not a Discriminatory Tax Against US Exports
And therein lies the rub. Any goods / materials from outside the VAT zone will have VAT charged on the import. Vis—a-vis a tariff.

Example I manufacture and sell teak wood tables in Portugal. I buy the wood from Asia, which does not have a VAT and is outside the EU. When I import said wood, I get assessed a value to pay VAT on. This is a tariff. I buy the stain and finish from Germany, which is inside the EU and has a VAT, through a complex paperwork system, I also pay VAT when the finish gets imported to me, but eventually I can claim that VAT paid back and it “nets out”. So I get this back. How do I get it back? I can subtract VAT paid from the VAT collected when I sell the goods.

Yes, VAT is a tariff, by a different name.

486sx33··on Musk's DOGE Begins Firing Workers at Federal IT Department
You can in fact grow a service through efficiency and structure - as opposed to just adding warm bodies … which seems to be what the government usually does!
486sx33··on Kevin Mitnik FOIA Final
I think a lot of this was social engineering, but at one time the fbi considered mitnik some kind of super hacker. How did that disconnect happen? I imagine because his targets didn’t want to admit to the fbi how crappy their security was, so they would just say omg! We got hacked!

Big moments I remember from his book.

1. Gaining access to a telco C/O and social engineering his way out after being caught

2. Ultimately being caught by sloppy practices himself, logging into systems he was comfortable with and getting traced, and then forgetting some sort of identification in a ski jacket he hadn’t used in a long time, which was in his closet in a place he was living under a new identity.

It’s been awhile so I could be partly off on those details. But I’d say at least those pieces are very believable.

486sx33··on Delphi Is 30
Something is definitely lost, I'd unpopularly argue with FLASH too. You could just start templateing with VB6 and Delphi, etc, and then start writing specific code or script blobs as needed.

Tools today seem like a hot mess, perhaps more powerful, but much less... human

486sx33··on Residential Networking over Telephone
Point to point line of sight has come a very long way. I successfully setup a connection about 2 miles across a small body of water and it worked very well. For shorter distances the equipment costs are quite reasonable
486sx33··on Residential Networking over Telephone
An oil filled anything has always been the gold standard to run wiring through. It’s insulted, temperature regulated, vibration resistant etc etc. also a huge pain if something does break … lol which fortunately is unlikely !
486sx33··on Residential Networking over Telephone
Running anything other than mains power in the same conduit as mains power is a bad idea, there are many codes and many “spirits” of the code that prohibit this. PVC is insanely cheap, a separate (properly spaced!) conduit for telecom is the way, and is future proof.

It’s also been on Roku for years…

Android is such a mess with their apks though.

486sx33··on Google Maps now shows the 'Gulf of America'
A great idea! I rather like beaver-land it sounds like such a wonderful place.

In all seriousness this started in trumps first term when he insisted on changing NAFTA to USMCA while canada calls it CUSMA and Mexico calls it T-MEC … so it’s the no one agrees on anything agreement

I’d completely disagree, because China was the beneficiary and it destroyed North American jobs.

China needs to respect the American trademark system!
