456hdsaq234g··on AMC unveils answer to MoviePass
Went to cinema less than once a year without moviepass. Now maybe once a month?

or Robinhood. Free trades! No monthly fees!
456hdsaq234g··on Keybase Exploding Messages
I used to be against this style of 'DRM' -- either analog hole (screenshot or physical camera) or client subversion (client logs all messages out of band forever); but I think I misunderstood the use case. This is about changing behaviours to be more ephemeral; An expectation that your messages are not there forever. In a world of "unlock your phone or arrest" these features are very important. Thanks for rolling this out KB

No, never do this. I will find your keys, and I will have your certificate revoked.

*also misread, I was considering the DNS case. Lightly, dont do this for the hosts file example either.

Ive found many of these, and reported them to the vendors. Sometimes they are happy (swag!!!), sometimes they are not. This is a great article that explains the issue and work arounds.

Right. My point is that it would be trivial to pivot to eugenics. States like Singapore have been accused of eugenics by running State Dating agencies.
456hdsaq234g··on AMC unveils answer to MoviePass
Also important: MoviePass parent, Helios and Matheson’s. Stock was trading at $38.86 a share in October 2017. $0.44 today. Yeaaah moviepass is screwed (I am a subscriber who likes the product but understand it is completely unsustainable).
456hdsaq234g··on Show HN: Early version of a Speed Dating Community
People have the right to change their mind about dating some random stranger. No reason to punish them for it. Its a fact of human nature, and we have freedoms. Best not to curtail this.
456hdsaq234g··on Show HN: Early version of a Speed Dating Community
Careful, this is sounding a little eugenic with the "must be on the site". There is no possible way to implement this without some authoritarian regime making it so. I get the impression that this idea if rather coercive.

Folks are getting laid for free via Tinder and others. Why would anyone pay $10/month for a smaller pool of candidates?
456hdsaq234g··on Bay Area man must pay $136,000 in tech-support scam against elderly
What is the indication that this person has changed? OP ran an extortion scheme against non-technical folks, and then extorted the victims again. Its a horrible horrible story and the OP should be ashamed with themselves, and rethink their life.

Just because you are small, doesn't mean you get to abuse user data. No, parent is right, this is long overdue, and if a few data abusers must pay, so be it. Its too important to make exclusions for those that cannot keep up. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.

also decentralised clocks, which can provide decentralised timestamps, which is a kind of related concept (double spend resistance)
456hdsaq234g··on How I became Leonardo da Vinci on the Blockchain
You need a blockchain for decentralised timestamps. That is because a blockchain is basically a slow clock. Its not easy to spoof as you would need to spoof the Proof of Work. Any existing signature relies on a 3rd party trusted clock (like symantecs signing service for Authenticode).

it seems the ethereum blockchain is not immune to human lies. Aka the oracle problem, provenance problem.

456hdsaq234g··on First atomic bet on Bitcoin Cash using new opcodes
The OP_CODES were 'disabled' by core because they were considered poorly tested and a consensus logic risk. https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/pull/2610

Of course, the highly skilled 'Bitcoin ABC' aka bcash developers obviously tested these well, with no risk to consensus logic or users funds...

456hdsaq234g··on First atomic bet on Bitcoin Cash using new opcodes
because in bcash land they can convince the miners to include tx's with 1 satoshi fee, so they can bloat their chain with all kinds of junk like yours.org Good luck doing that in ethereum land.

Yes, but by having a facebook account, all their needs (your entire life) are met too. 1-2 times a month to read random junk from your friends for a lifetime of surveillance capitalism. Good trade off, no?
456hdsaq234g··on Windows gifski.exe with a digital signature
Can you confirm that the reason the password is forced is the PKCS12 (pfx) import has flagged the key as requiring a password every signature? (and it cannot be disabled).

I believe you can use mimikatz to forcibly strip the strong protection flag from the key. Microsoft says this is normally not possible, yet here we are. You might want to try downgrading the strong protection flag on the key material, it may allow for automated signing.
