0xCAP··on AI poster wins Ohio State Fair contest
This.100%. As people often lucky enough to work in niche sectors where users care to about the tiniest details we forget sometimes the majority of "stuff" out there exists without a soul already. Think of boring document templates, shop signs, cheap clothing designs, etc. And to he honest AI will probably raise the bar for all that stuff by a lot. Ofc like you mentioned it'll sometimes lead to misleading content (eg made up food pictures in menus), but if that happens that'll just be a byproduct of the service provider and consumers not caring enough to make that have an impact on the underlying business.
0xCAP··on Opus 5 is currently #1 on Artificial Analysis Intelligence Leaderboard
It should become a win/win mechanism where communities are rewarded for high quality, human driven validation of LLMs, and vendors gain for bragging rights about their models being highly-skilled-human-approved. Still don't know why this isn't becoming a thing.
0xCAP··on Oxide computer 3D rack guided tour
The only way to build a non toxic company is to have a good culture of cherry picking non toxic individuals all the way from the board of investors.
0xCAP··on In praise of memcached
> We could change the fs layer to memcached but so far it's working great.

This so much. (Ab)Using a db table as a k/v store + the FS can do so much before even considering paying the price of setting up a dedicated caching store. I’ve fought countless foes in the engineering world when proposing solutions like yours just because (incompetent) people feel like caching should live in its dedicated store.

0xCAP··on TypeScript 7.0 RC
How?
0xCAP··on Show HN: Lowfat – pluggable CLI filter that saved 91.8% of my LLM tokens
Tbh I'll wait for first party LLM providers to build this kind of stuff. If they're not first class citizens they end up corrupting the workflow more than enriching it.
0xCAP··on Shadcn/UI: A set of beautifully designed components that you can customize
Incredibile how web development fell to the point of people making a big deal out of a repository of working examples of UI components.
0xCAP··on Shadcn/UI: A set of beautifully designed components that you can customize
Finally somebody said it. Thanks.
0xCAP··on LÖVE: 2D Game Framework for Lua
My2c. Fintech tech lead who has only a far memory of hand coding games ages ago. Community makes tech awesome. Love2D discord changed my life. Never met a more awesome and welcoming community in my whole life.
0xCAP··on Ask HN: What are your best purchases under $100?
Chi-fi IEMs. People have no idea what sound quality can be achieved under 100$.
0xCAP··on 2026: The Year of Java in the Terminal?
Let's hope not.
0xCAP··on Rob Pike goes nuclear over GenAI
It's also a way to prevent LLMs to get trained on their data without their consent.
0xCAP··on Garibaldi, history's sexiest revolutionary?
As a Neapolitan, I spit on his face everytime I see it depicted somewhere.
0xCAP··on Google Revisits JPEG XL in Chromium After Earlier Removal
Imagine not trashing it for no valid reason in the first place, saving the useless effort to ditch it and then resume it shortly after.
0xCAP··on $5 PlanetScale is live
Sometimes nothing is better than something. $5 for 512mb of RAM is something I regret witnessing.
0xCAP··on Synadia and TigerBeetle Commit $512k USD to the Zig Software Foundation
Pushed for my company to adopt TigerBeetle for its foundational service rewrite recently and couldn't be happier with the experience we're having so far.
0xCAP··on C++26: Erroneous behaviour
Why are we still trying to get C++ to become a viable choice instead of calling it a day and moving on?

I guess it's my old theory that organisations turn into living beings and start living off of mere survival instinct even past the point of serving any purpose to society.

0xCAP··on Everything Is Down
IMO only GCP (+ Cloudflare, unrelated) is actually down, the rest are trolls.
0xCAP··on GCP Outage
At this point I don’t know if I must assume people are trolling or the entire internet is down.
0xCAP··on GCP Outage
> No major incidents

… Proceeds to show worldwide degraded service level alerts.

0xCAP··on .NET on Heroku Now Generally Available
Genuinely curious here: do people actually still use Heroku?
0xCAP··on It is hard to recommend Python in production
Author started comparing a debian image's size vs an alpine one. Immediately closed the article.
0xCAP··on Replit CEO on AI breakthroughs: We don't care about professional coders anymore
It's simply clickbait

0xCAP··on Perplexity AI submits bid to merge with TikTok
Perplexity at this point like that single uncle shooting his shot with anything breathing.
0xCAP··on Universities enrolling foreign students with poor English, BBC finds
Most universities nowadays have turned into degree mills anyway.

I always stand very far from conspiracy theories and just think that, like living organisms, organisations tend to turn into sentient organisms that just strive to stay alive driven by survival instinct.

That’s the only way I can explain how a handful of people I know get paid to publish papers of no value, who are not going to be read by anybody outside of their tight circle, and they don’t even care about (I hear a lot of “that’s the bullsh#t we gotta do to get paid”s). Most unis where I live behave just like parasite organisms living on top of a host that they try to get the most out of, economically speaking.

The fact that the threshold of decency drops below any reasonable level is just a byproduct of the hosts requiring unis to adapt to their requests (political hires, needlessly overinclusive politics, bar-lowering acceptance criteria), and at this point I don’t expects universities to stand on any ground whatsoever in the name of protecting culture and education.

0xCAP··on Google CEO says more than a quarter of the company's new code is created by AI
People overestimate faang. There are many talents working there, sure, but a lot of garbage gets pumped into their codebases as well.
0xCAP··on GitButler now supports first class conflicts, making rebasing less annoying
I have a custom bash function named "backup_branch" that does exactly that, along with "restore_backup" and "delete_backups". It's made my life 10x simpler.
0xCAP··on Huawei makes divorce from Android official with HarmonyOS NEXT launch

0xCAP··on New Italian Law Threatens ISPs with Prison over Piracy Reporting Failures
Absolutely true. Italians love selling the story of how corrupted their country is. Despite it having roots in reality, it's no worse than most other eu countries.
