zyxzkz··on "Pwned Passwords" V2 With Half a Billion Passwords
He's saying echo without an argument emits a newline, so use -n to suppress it.
zyxzkz··on Perl 6 Optimism

zyxzkz··on San Francisco’s Skyline, Now Inescapably Transformed by Tech
Wow, guy is setting up franchises... San Francisco has its own McTech building now.
zyxzkz··on Bitcoin Is a Terrible Currency, and Not for the Reason You May Think
Bitcoin has always been the game of finding the greater sucker... now more than ever.
zyxzkz··on Perkeep – Open-source data modeling, storing, search, sharing and synchronizing
I was gonna say, this sounds like Camlistore.
zyxzkz··on Toward Go 2
That's an awesome trick, using angle brackets that aren't angle brackets!
zyxzkz··on MIT’s gas-powered drone is able to stay in the air for five days at a time
As long as the inventor gets to DRINK FROM THE FIREHOSE!
zyxzkz··on Google Will Stop Reading Your Emails for Gmail Ads
This seems like a ridiculously paranoid worldview to have.
zyxzkz··on We plan to have Chrome hide ads that do not comply with the Better Ads Standards
I guess we'll find out if Internet content disappears because of a lack of "Gotcha!" advertising.

My guess is that the Internet will be just fine.

zyxzkz··on Worldwide tablet shipments have declined 8.5%
The laptop is like the perfect tablet... compact, more powerful, comes with its own built-in keyboard AND screen stand.

What more could you want?

zyxzkz··on Show HN: FuelDOM – A React-compatible virtual DOM implementation
I don't think the problem with React is with the DOM aspect, it's state management and persistence where things get bogged down conceptually.
zyxzkz··on VPNs Are Absolutely a Solution to a Policy Problem
No, you're absolutely wrong. Look at the vote.

Don't bring that weak Whataboutism here.

zyxzkz··on Thousands of underground gas bubbles poised to 'explode' in Arctic
Okay, thanks.
zyxzkz··on Thousands of underground gas bubbles poised to 'explode' in Arctic
Can you elaborate?
zyxzkz··on Thousands of underground gas bubbles poised to 'explode' in Arctic
I always liked that movie...
zyxzkz··on Thousands of underground gas bubbles poised to 'explode' in Arctic
Which one should you read first?
zyxzkz··on Amazon's Tepid Response to Counterfeiters Frustrates Sellers
Same here. I always assumed buying direct from Amazon I was buying products sourced directly by them.
zyxzkz··on Amazon's Tepid Response to Counterfeiters Frustrates Sellers
When I followed your link it says:

Sold by MSP Sales LLC and Fulfilled by Amazon.

zyxzkz··on Thousands of underground gas bubbles poised to 'explode' in Arctic
Another fun angle to consider. Ocean acidification leading to a die-off of phytoplankton (the oxygen tank of the Earth, basically).

This could cause a global asphyxiation event.

zyxzkz··on Our long term plan to make GitLab as fast as possible with Vue and Webpack
I sorta hate that React is so simple and the ecosystem is such a clusterf*ck.

I wish they came out with a storage/persistence system as simple conceptually as the renderer.

Maybe that's a lot to ask for though.

React by itself gives me blue balls.

zyxzkz··on Rust's 2017 Roadmap
Man, if developing programming languages was this easy, we should have done it years ago!
zyxzkz··on Ask HN: Perl 6: Do you use it, how do you like it, what do you do with it?
It doesn't help that CPAN is an archaic module system with a user interface (PAUSE) straight out of 1995.
zyxzkz··on 'Expanse' Co-Creator on Writing, Star Citizen, and Why He Hated Mass Effect 3
2037 will be a great year for games for sure.
zyxzkz··on I cannot continue working on my add-ons
Yes, I've faced similar issues in the past, and had to update my add-on to get it working again.

Now it looks like it will once again break (this time permanently).

I'm in the same boat with other folks. Why use Firefox if it's just a poor man's Chrome clone?

zyxzkz··on Facebook Tweaks Its 'Trending Topics' Algorithm to Better Reflect Real News
Back in the good 'ol days of alt.swedish.chef.bork.bork.bork
zyxzkz··on Show HN: Ship 2.0 – A macOS Native Interface to GitHub Issues
So..., why did you have to install the webhooks in the first place?
zyxzkz··on First they came for the Iranians
It's a political thing. Oil is a fungible resource. Saudi Arabia helps control the market. US doesn't want to lose that power by pissing them off.

As oil goes, so goes the world.

zyxzkz··on Doomsday Prep for the Super-Rich
Yes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5guXaWwQpe4
zyxzkz··on KeepassXC – A cross-platform community fork of KeepassX
Why not change the name entirely, then? KeepassX is already a terrible one.

Makes me think of DOS software from 1998.

zyxzkz··on Updates to our Google Voice apps
I have a similar story.

Google really had momentum. They bungled it terribly. I just use an iPhone now. It works, no bloatware, no bullshit, no need for useless tweaks.

I should have switched years ago.
