zylent··on Really, Google? (Or Why We Can’t Have Nice Wireless Networks)
Client isolation is just wireless clients on the same AP. PIM routing acts like a proxy, and the multicast address for whatever service your routing will be proxied to the clients local multicast address.

Ruckus calls it bonjour fencing, and has pretty good support for creating useful policy.

It’s really not difficult at all if you have a multi-layer firewall (should be standard imo).

Fortinet nails this, took me a day to figure out.

A subnet or VLAN = broadcast domain. Usually broadcast domain = multicast domain.

Any standard firewall contains tools for PIM (protocol independent multicast) routing. PIM router as the GW for both subnets / VLANs does the trick fine, and is easy-ish to setup. Using this for mDNS printer discovery on a guest network to an internal printer network.

This article is right in that multicast is stupid to use for this, but wrong in that the purpose of a net admin is to NET ADMIN. Make it work and quit whining, multicast is not a new or difficult problem.

zylent··on The Story of Why I Left Riot Games
So the issue here is not with the sentiment, but the fact that the slogan “no doesn’t mean no” is _very_clearly_ a play on the anti-rape slogan “no means no”. I get being against over-sensitivity, but mocking an anti-rape slogan to invert the meaning could make victims of sexual assault really uncomfortable.

Edit: literally the entire first page of google results for “no doesn’t mean no” are anti-rape articles. This is seems like a pretty black and white issue.

zylent··on MacOS command line version of the WireGuard VPN is now available for testing
In most configurations, it’s trivial to use the os native VPN client, with some minor caveats. This creates a tunnel device and does what 99% of end-users working remotely need.
zylent··on AT&T updates firmware to block access to 1.1.1.1
network engineer here, most places I have worked at have used 10.1.x.x for loopback / underlay networks.
zylent··on Macbook Pro frying USB peripherals
Why not both! I use xcape on linux, and karabiner on OSX to remap caps to control when chorded (ctrl+c) and escape when pressed alone. You'll never go back
zylent··on How the Nintendo Switch prevents firmware downgrades
Ahh, I didn't catch that and was thinking ODM_RESERVED_8 = 256 bits.

Thanks!

zylent··on How the Nintendo Switch prevents firmware downgrades
If there are 256 bits, wouldn't they just burn one bit per major revision leaving 256 possible revisions?

Is there something I'm missing here?

zylent··on How the Nintendo Switch prevents firmware downgrades
The fuse in question is FUSE_RESERVED_ODM7. The Switchbrew wiki says the fuse array for this stores 256 bits of data.

as an aside, this is not new information to anyone following switch homebrew development.

zylent··on The Strange Online Aesthetic of the YouTube Shooting Suspect
It almost seems like a scaling thing at this point. If .1% of people will at some point commit a violent crime, at some scale you will have users that are in that .1%. At 1,000 users, it's only one person. At 1m users, you've got a sizeable population.

As an aside, I don't see much discussion surrounding the physical security (or lack of) at Youtube HQ. Not saying this could have been prevented, but most of my employers have had some form of card access system to limit the impact of events such as this.

zylent··on Some terrible personal news
Quality of life is much more important than pay past a certain point.
zylent··on U.S. To End Policy That Let Legal Pot Flourish
FWIW, as someone who currently resides in a recreationally legal state (Oregon), everyone I know who uses marijuana both medically and recreationally chooses to do so with legally purchased Marijuana. It's more convenient, safer, and typically higher quality than an non-legal state.
zylent··on Clicker Heroes 2 is abandoning free-to-play
Exactly why I quit playing league of legends. The meta is much more stable in DOTA as a result of the champions being free (and properly balanced).
zylent··on Clicker Heroes 2 is abandoning free-to-play
Minor nitpick: League of legends requires you to purchase heroes as they come out, and this gives the player incentive to spend ~5$ every month or so. DOTA would be a better example as you are not required to purchase heroes.
zylent··on Introducing Oculus Go, Plus Santa Cruz Updates
The page says there is a 3.5mm jack.
zylent··on Introducing Oculus Go, Plus Santa Cruz Updates
That makes sense, I guess I'm just being pedantic
zylent··on Introducing Oculus Go, Plus Santa Cruz Updates
"Today, we showed the next phase of Santa Cruz development, delivering hand presence with two positionally tracked controllers. This is an important, industry-first milestone that brings the magic and incredible design expertise of Touch into a completely standalone experience."

How is this different than the vive controller?
