zvqcMMV6Zcr··on 10% of Firefox crashes are caused by bitflips
For me the only software crashing(CTD ) was Factorio. Nothing else had any issues. I tried removing mods, searching for one that started causing issues. Memtestx86 said everything is OK. Replacing one stick of RAM instantly fixed all issues.
zvqcMMV6Zcr··on Most-read tech publications have lost over half their Google traffic since 2024
> Their entire business model was to funnel traffic to websites with their ads.

This doesn't change, they will still show ads somewhere around AI overview. As part of it if it is both technically feasible and legal.

The part of equation that is gone, is how organic traffic got to sites that published quality content. Now they might as well shutdown or switch to hard paywall. Both won't affect Google for few year, until websites (other than shops) are dead, knowledge stored in LLMs gets outdated and search engines have tiny index, that is a shadow of past size.

I could not care less about ZDNet. It already got reduced to spam blog that focuses only on selling affiliate link products.
zvqcMMV6Zcr··on Elevated Errors in Claude.ai
Maybe network guys can give some hints? I guess they encounter such issue relatively often, when they can't access network equipment by network to fix the network issue. I know management consoles have separate networks on datacenter scale but it isn't that easy with even bigger networks.
zvqcMMV6Zcr··on Libxml2 Enterprise Edition (AGPL, from the previous maintainer)
I remember at least this one: https://github.com/Hello-World-EE/Java-Hello-World-Enterpris...
zvqcMMV6Zcr··on OpenAI raises $110B on $730B pre-money valuation
I wonder if there is "too big for IPO". Saudi Aramco in 2019 sold shares worth $25.6 billion in IPO. Even offering just 5% of OpenAI to public would shatter that record. Well, unless public isn't actually interested in investing such huge amounts.
zvqcMMV6Zcr··on Tell HN: MitID, Denmark's digital ID, was down
Isn't it handled by COBOL or some other ancient language that only supports strings?
zvqcMMV6Zcr··on Tell HN: YC companies scrape GitHub activity, send spam emails to users
Is there any company that will take my money to solve GDPR issues? And by solve I mean sue the spammers? For last few years I saw they "try" to look legit, by claiming addresses are managed by some Hungarian/Spanish shell company, hoping no one will be able to afford pursuing infractions over borders.
zvqcMMV6Zcr··on ASML unveils EUV light source advance that could yield 50% more chips by 2030
As shown with that terrible speed of electricity video, Veritasium prefers "technically correct" over factually correct.
zvqcMMV6Zcr··on Antitrust Filing Says Google Cannibalizes Publisher Traffic
I guess it is more or less the same as https://almcorp.com/blog/google-ai-overviews-publisher-traff... , maybe that submitted link has less fluff and repetitions than the one I found.
zvqcMMV6Zcr··on Tesla Sales Down 55% UK, 58% Spain, 59% Germany, 81% Netherlands, 93% Norway
> That's an uncommon experience.

The very first thing that Tesla was criticised for was terrible QA process. The quality was random and there were huge differences between factories. So I can totally believe there are plenty of Tesla made cars that made their owners happy. Of course few people can afford such gamble.

zvqcMMV6Zcr··on America's pensions can't beat Vanguard but they can close a hospital
Do you think non-recourse mortgage (the dominant type in USA) also should be banned? VC finds a bank that borrows them money to buy X, with X as collateral. It is exactly the same. The mass selloff of assets and absurd cost-cutting is caused by new owners not giving a damn about the future of acquired company, its workers nor clients - it has nothing to do with leveraged buyout itself.
zvqcMMV6Zcr··on "Token anxiety", a slot machine by any other name
Please tell me this is some kind of satire because people checking on agents makes as much sense as people waking up early only to checking progress on Gentoo rebuilding itself from sources. Which definitely happened but as a niche not something common enough to observe.
zvqcMMV6Zcr··on WD and Seagate confirm: Hard drives sold out for 2026
Server grade hardware (rack blades) is already poor fit for consumer needs and AI dedicated hardware straight up requires external liquid cooling systems. It will be expensive to adopt them.
zvqcMMV6Zcr··on I now assume that all ads on Apple news are scams
This is a bit silly. Are there any ads that people do trust?
zvqcMMV6Zcr··on Battle-Testing Lynx at Allegro
> Delivery Methods screen

The one that recently kept "accidentally" switching pick-up points? I sure hope it was not caused by Lynx, just shitty business requirements.

zvqcMMV6Zcr··on Notepad++ supply chain attack breakdown
At least in past I gave up and just used N++ with Wine. It didn't fit the rest of system at all, but was more usable for editing simple text files than DE defaults of GEdit and Kate.
zvqcMMV6Zcr··on xAI joins SpaceX
NASA doesn't have enough radioactive material for its current needs, RTG is used only for missions far from Sun (and Earth).
zvqcMMV6Zcr··on xAI joins SpaceX
I think it counts as necromancy. After all it brings frozen hamsters back to life.
zvqcMMV6Zcr··on Rentahuman – The Meatspace Layer for AI
Amazon's Mechanical Turk exists since 2005, so we are 20 years in the future
zvqcMMV6Zcr··on GitHub discusses giving maintainers control to disable PRs
It is almost like finding 20 year old bugs on Mozilla tracker. That said GitHub doesn't have the excuse of mostly relying on volunteer work.

Also I don't find GitLab that much better. I remember the feature request for "Give option to disable automatic adding of 'Closes ISSUE' to merge requests" closed with "Why would you need an option for that, everyone either loves it or likes manually removing it every time.

zvqcMMV6Zcr··on OpenClaw – Moltbot Renamed Again
I would love AI to take over monitoring. "Alert me when logs or metrics look weird". SIEM vendors often have their special sauce ML, so a bit more open and generic tool would be nice. Manually setting alerting thresholds takes just too much effort, navigating narrow path between missing things and being flooded by messages.
zvqcMMV6Zcr··on Vitamin D and Omega-3 have a larger effect on depression than antidepressants
> So why are all the official sources still so paranoid about Vitamin D

It is fat soluble vitamin, together with A, E and K. That in itself makes in more risky in terms of overdose. I didn't hear of any cases outside kids eating jars of vitamin gummies but it does happen.

zvqcMMV6Zcr··on The only moat left is knowing things
No, it reads like Linkedin post. That said, do we now have to check if the text we wrote doesn't look like something AI generated?
zvqcMMV6Zcr··on Microsoft forced me to switch to Linux
It really is nothing new. People quickly close windows with errors, they go out of they way to avoid reading actual message.
zvqcMMV6Zcr··on SoftBank in talks to invest up to $30B more in OpenAI
Not even close. The 2008 financial crisis is better comparison. And even then I think most negative effect will come from investors pulling money away from everything non-AI, than OpenAI/Anthropic/Oracle crashing and burning.
zvqcMMV6Zcr··on LLM Ad Blockers are coming
I think the only reason left, that we don't have to use ML to detect ads in YouTube streams, are the legal requirements for visible separation of content and ads. I doubt LLM ads will get more integrated than current Google search results screen. Maybe services that don't have enough "surface" for ads (including all APIs) will move to subscription only model.
zvqcMMV6Zcr··on Copilot committed my repo secrets into AGENTS.md
So it didn't warn user that secrets are still visible in repo history and have to rotated, it only made that revert?
zvqcMMV6Zcr··on Environmentalists worry Google behind bid to control Oregon town's water
> it comes out of the datacenter just a little warmer

Exact values matter. Some power plants had been found dumping +10 C water into lakes/rivers, while they had permit only for +5, and it totally destroyed local ecosystem. And most efficient (in terms of money) is evaporation cooling, where at least part of water is "lost".

zvqcMMV6Zcr··on Why medieval city-builder video games are historically inaccurate (2020)
Ostriv is based on 18th century, that's hardly medieval.
