The Enron scandal is something that the wikileaks would be interested in publishing. They would not publish Intel's chip designs.
I also work in the financial field (for a company that has more public responsibility than your average), and we have a whistle-blower hotline internally. If you see any "dirty practice" you are encouraged to report it ASAP. As the CEO, I can only encourage you to create this procedure in your company.
I could not be happier that my parents did not let me skip grades. There was a kid in my class who was three years younger than everybody else in the grade in high school and needless to say he could not associate with us at all, and it's not like we didn't try.
Sure, I could have finished studies a little earlier, but the defining moments of my teenage years are those spent with my friends, not what the rest of society would deem as worthy achievements.
Highlights are the Golden Horde (0:40) and Napoleon's march to Moscow (4:00)
I am used to ticks and crosses showing features that either are or are not present, in this case though there is a feature (even though its a negative one) "affiliate links" that is not not present. Kinda obscure.
Perhaps you could just have a smiley or frowning face next to each feature, that way you would see that the paid plans have more "good" things? eg: :) - tags! :) - filter by date :( - no tags when historifying :( - no rss :( - affiliate links
Or something to that effect.
The good ones include historical context and explanation of the setup decisions, this is just a list.
No harm intended, I have my own pretty borderline views, just that one of my "character traits" is that I find radical views that are beyond my comprehension (in this example, very right wing views) absolutely hilarious. Another example would be extreme free marketeers.
A simple http://github.com/search?&q=vimrc is a goldmine for mastery.
I would like to suggest a future direction: be inspired by the Windows 7 Phone and Playstation 3 interfaces and make different branches for different topics. For example, All tech stories would be on the right of the centre, all current affairs stories would be on the left of the centre and pressing some button would bring me back to the beginning; better yet would be if there was a simply a grid for website types, so all stories along a particular line would be of a particular field and the user could customise this and moving arrows up or down would change website type.
Check out the BlueBottle OS (A research OS at ETH zurich) that a zoom based window manager. A video can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pe0ZdzO_urU
Feature request: to further mimic google instant, would it be possible to add autocomplete? Also, note that when the autocomplete box appears on google instant and you press the down arrow to select the result, you can then press the right arrow to do a "I'm feeling lucky".
Maybe you could add some additional keyboard shortcuts to instant image search, such as selecting results with the keyboard. Ideally I would want to select a result with the arrow keys and hit enter to go to it.
As most people here, I try to avoid the mouse.
Thanks again for this, funny thing is that I don't use the original google instant (as it does not work with the key bindings experiment) but your image search is something that I probably will.
Social networks sell themselves to users based on what the users can share and display about themselves to their social network. The more that a user can shape his persona (by revealing different information) the more appealing a social network will be to users, a big reason why facebook is so popular is exactly for this reason: it allows you to shape your presence in a very varied way (this is why pages is a killer feature).
To describe ping, apple should have really said that its a social network for ITMS, not a social network for music.
Give me a one liner at least. What problems does a "thread" solve? Don't list features, let me know what makes this different over email.
The linked story talks of death in isolation in Japan where it is a much more widespread problem due to two things: firstly, the work culture there does not incite interpersonal relationships so often people will only associate with their family, and secondly, people try to stay unintrusive in their old age, being ashamed to contact their children and other family.
The above is made even worse by relocation projects that took place moving couples into the suburbs out of the major cities, inorganicly forming "communities" overnight of people who have never met and never will leading to initiatives such as the Center for the Prevention of Death in Isolation.
While the interior remains as depressing as ever, the response has been very positive. I imagine it has the same psychological effect of waking up to a sunny vs rainy day.
Wanted to let you know that your rss feed seems broken.
Actually, the doc says that you need to do the following:
vim someplugin.vba
:so %
:q
With macVim, I found that simply double clicking the .vba in finder does everything needed.Let us face it. Anywhere I am (home or office) I have at least 4 different ways to connect to the web and waste my time over there [;-)].
Actually, it was for this reason that I moved on to a blackberry, I was constantly spending time checking my email. Naturally, by the time you open your browser you go on to check other things etc etc. Now I write (personal) emails almost exclusively from my blackberry and it has made me much more productive.
I would have gotten and Android if there had been a model with physical keyboard which I could have gotten, but alas it was not the case.
I also have a hard time believing Geneva, have you actually been there? In Switzerland I would understand Zurich or Lausanne, but Geneva does not even have a technical university, compare that with ETH and EPFL.
I suggest that Tim submits his Buzz as a Letter to the Editor: http://www.nytimes.com/ref/membercenter/help/lettertoeditor....
I would like to see easy access to data from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (and all relevant organisations from around the world), and to be able to have this linked directly to products.
You could then take use your phone to take a picture of a bar code while in a store and an app would check this against the above data for historical information about the vendor.
In the US and UK I see some effort being made with the new government portals to download data, I just wish this practice would be come more common around the world.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I think the OP is not working on a "social network" for the developing world, but rather something to replace mobile phones. By opening up the communication it would allow for observers to make more informed decisions.
A simple google search reveals just what a huge impact wireless communication has had in Africa: http://www.google.com/search?q=mobile+phones+africa
I have to applaud this project, and wish you the greatest of success.
The project looks interesting, I'm just not sure about who your target audience is. I guess its the homebrew trader?
Personally, I plan on making a "door as desk" one of these upcoming weekends: http://theinspiredroom.net/2009/04/15/diy-an-old-door-makes-...
If that doesn't appeal to you, then I would recommend to at least get a desk that has adjustable height settings, we have desks like that at work and its a very nice feature to have. Anything to make you more comfortable.
