zingerlio··on Fujifilm X RAW STUDIO webapp clone
I love how you styled the interface. The UI elements are minimalist and great looking. Did you take inspirations somewhere, or was it a from-scratch design?
zingerlio··on A pig's brain has been frozen with its cellular activity locked in place
Actually, what is continuity anyway, your consciousness is an emergent phenomenon updating itself every Planck time!
zingerlio··on Do Not Turn Child Protection into Internet Access Control
I share your observations and concerns. But I don't think the current erosion of digital privacy and the censorship creep were made to address those. There are better ways (even though they are not fully fleshed out yet) to minimize toxic/populist influence, but a blank cheque to sacrifice our rights isn't one.
zingerlio··on OpenAI agrees with Dept. of War to deploy models in their classified network
OpenAI employees put knives on their own necks to demand Altman to get back and be their boss [1], not too long ago, right? Altman wiggles his tongues and makes them a solid paycheck. "We will not be divided," unless the water boils slow enough. Wait for a few months, he will renegotiate the terms with DoD, just like his move to turn OpenAI into a for-profit.

zingerlio··on Simplenote is no longer in active development
Wow thanks for posting this, this was how I found out about it being on life support. I've been using it since ages ago and have no complaints. It's lightweight, fast, accessible anywhere, no frills and functional. It's the notepad.exe on web for me.

None of the current line up of alternatives are lightweight enough, it seems.

I guess the singularity is coming in the ugliest way possible.
zingerlio··on GitHub is down again
I was wondering why my AUR packages won’t update, just my luck.
zingerlio··on The New Collabora Office for Desktop
For those who tried it, how good is the Calc (Excel equivalent) and Impress (PowerPoint equivalent)?
zingerlio··on U.S. is withdrawing from 66 international bodies
That’s just describing wealth.
zingerlio··on Doctors' estimates of the feasibility of preserving the dying for future revival
Never thought about the possibility that I AM the Boltzmann brain.
zingerlio··on Starcloud
The book Saturn Run has an interesting design utilized for a spaceship.
zingerlio··on OpenAI's hunger for computing power
The AI bubble bursts when he stumbles to get that money.
zingerlio··on A simple way to generate random points on a sphere
With the arccos it would be uniform. It only bunches towards the poles when you pick phi as pi v.
zingerlio··on BlackRock hit by $52B withdrawal from single client
Are they going to pay tax on the withdrawal? No way to avoid it, right?
zingerlio··on AI Horseless Carriages
Question from a peasant: what does this YC GP do everyday otherwise, if he needs to save minutes from replying those emails?
zingerlio··on Intuit, Owner of TurboTax, Wins Battle Against America's Taxpayers
I second this. Although I only hand filed for two years and then transitioned to FreeTaxUSA. The benefit is that after going through their wizard/interface, I can confidently check the generated IRS forms to make sure it’s filled to my intent.
zingerlio··on Firefly ‘Blue Ghost’ lunar lander touches down on the moon
How are the videos captured or processed? The solar lens flares are smoothly interpolated but the moon surface shows lower FPS, almost feels like the flares were on a separate layer.
zingerlio··on OpenAI to become for-profit company
We are booing Altman because his bait and switch feels unethical, but many of us saw it coming from a mile away, how does he make this transition to take advantage of the financial system so smoothly? Is there no legal guard for such maneuver, or is he just an insanely good player to circumvent all of them in plain view?
zingerlio··on Omega-3 intake counteracts symptoms of anxiety and depression in mice
What was the EPA source/supplement, if you don’t mind?
zingerlio··on The reason why music is getting worse
> You have to go out and find it.

How do you discover them? Any workflow or platform?

zingerlio··on Nothing: Simply Do Nothing
I relate so much to his recent video on Friday meetings.
zingerlio··on White collar work is just meetings now
CEO work is also just meetings.
zingerlio··on Tiny bright objects discovered at dawn of universe baffle scientists
Imagine how different space travel and exploration would be for a civilization in that stage of the universe! Maybe we come too late and are destined to a lonely, sparse universe.
zingerlio··on My (Neo)Vim workflow
For casual users like me, I find Kickstart (https://github.com/nvim-lua/kickstart.nvim) a good and sensible default that's not too opinionated.
zingerlio··on Aphantasia: I can not picture things in my mind
How do people with aphantasia draw/paint/design? I always thought you had to kind of visualize those artistic things in your mind before manifesting them on paper/screen?
zingerlio··on Cost of self hosting Llama-3 8B-Instruct
Interested in your sub-$4k 8 GPU setup. Care to elaborate a bit or do you have a write up somewhere?
zingerlio··on Supercharging Fuel Cells with Caffeine
I wonder what prompted the researchers to try caffeine as a catalyst. Perhaps they spilled coffee on the lab bench and got a good reading :)
zingerlio··on Lucid dream startup says engineers can write code in their sleep
Would I hallucinate code in my dream better than an LLM?
zingerlio··on I don't know why so many devs avoid a GUI for Git
TUIs are somewhere in between. I like lazygit.
zingerlio··on Ask HN: How do you store devices with Lithium-Ion batteries for long-term?
Whenever I go on vacation for more than 2 weeks, I have this irrational fear that one of those neglected devices in a drawer somewhere would become a spicy pillow and self combust and burn my house down. Sometimes I keep them in those thin metal cookie boxes with a lid, so it could have some level of isolation. Never validated though.
