zandorg··on Show HN: Assembly to C code Decompiler
Absolutely, although some 6502 code is more friendly than others. SNES code can be very optimised compared to C64 code.

If you make sure the binary starts at address 0, and put in the right entry point (which will be somewhere in the SNES ROM), then it should decompile it fine.

Your first step will be to use the left-hand portion of the window to disassemble the NES ROM, and then once assembly files have been created, you decompile them on the right of the window. (this is all in the documentation of course).

I don't like to reply to my own posts, but here goes.

It's closed source just at the moment. HexRays is closed too.

It can run on Linux or MacOSX as CLisp runs on those platforms. I just haven't started work on porting to new platforms.

It decompiles 6502 as a proof of concept. It can decompile other CPUs, but not fully.

The expiration is temporary. I intend to eliminate this.

Thanks for your comments, it's great to get feedback.

Just another thing: Check out the 'Samples' page to see what it can do with different CPUs.

zandorg··on Tool Recreating the “Decrypting Text” Effect Seen in the Movie “Sneakers”
And of course, the anagram software they used (as mentioned in the commentary) was most likely NAMEGRAM, an old DOS program.
zandorg··on How to Use Classic Amiga for Word Processing Today
Of course, you could connect an Amiga (1200, though) to a VGA monitor with a simple modified cable. I did it with a nice old VGA mono monitor and it was great.
zandorg··on Using Google Cloud Vision OCR to extract text from photos and scanned documents
I found this great software (called TIRG) which is free, open source, and finds text in images (though it doesn't normalise to black / white).

Compiles fine on Windows.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/tirg/files/

zandorg··on Ask HN: Open source OCR library?
An important aspect is stripping text from image, before OCR'ing: http://sourceforge.net/projects/tirg/

Try TIRG.

A Speedlink Competition Pro USB looks a bit like this and is available (though not at Amazon anymore).

I remember Matt Dillon's DICE C compiler for the Amiga. It was only a trial version so only stdlib stuff. I wrote a little HTML viewer in it which used ANSI codes to display bold text, italic, underline etc.
zandorg··on 2013, the year of Usenet
I get the news from 2003 to present from GigaNews. I have about 2TB of it. That period is not indexed, so you can only search 1981-1991.

When I get a 4TB drive (soon I hope) I'll make the 2003 stuff searchable.

zandorg··on 2013, the year of Usenet
Yes, it can't handle all date formats, so it defaults to 0 which is Jan 1st 1970.

It's easily fixable but I haven't got around to it yet.

zandorg··on 2013, the year of Usenet
I submitted it 2 days ago but it just dropped off the 'New' page...
zandorg··on 2013, the year of Usenet
It's not possible to get Usenet from the 90s, as it simply isn't archived. 80s is archived via Internet Archive and you can get 10 years worth from 2003 via Usenet king GigaNews.

Google Groups has the 90s, but it's locked behind a 'Googlewall'.

zandorg··on 2013, the year of Usenet
This is my search engine for Usenet, currently only for the 1980s but I hope to have 2003 onwards searchable soon. I have about 2TB of news from 2003 which just needs indexing and uploading.

http://www.dejadejadeja.com/10years/

My goal is to give people an alternative to 'Google Groups'.

It's built on PHP and MySQL.

zandorg··on Has Ubuntu lost it?
I too use OpenSUSE. I tried Ubuntu on my huge-screen Dell Precision M70, and it couldn't find the Nvidia driver. OpenSUSE got it right first time. I also think OpenSUSE is most like Windows, which is a plus for me.

Ted Nelson told me himself that he was going to patent hypertext in about 1971, but his then wife argued him out of it.
zandorg··on URLs are for People, not Computers
I found this recently with a 6-field form. The browser sends empty FORM fieldstrings.

Eg: http://www.bing.com/search?q=test&qs=n&form=QBLH&...

Here, sk is "".

You can strip out empty fields with a bit of PHP (creating a new URL without the empty strings), which seems to work okay, but it's probably best not to risk the wrong effect, which is the end program seeing the empty fields wrongly (as NULL and not "").

Loaded it into Office and it worked fine.

zandorg··on Job Posting for Amazon.com Before it Launched
It's time someone setup an alternative usenet archive to Google Groups.

The only people to do this were DejaNews.com, later acquired by Google.

Then there was the 'look, we recovered all this old stuff off tapes' which is locked behind captchas and against the open spirit of usenet. [edit: the tape archive is available here http://archive.org/details/utzoo-wiseman-usenet-archive]

Perhaps the Internet Archive should archive usenet?

zandorg··on Amateur astronomers discover a planet with four suns
Overheating too, I guess.
zandorg··on Symbian, a post-mortem
I was going to make a version of Ted Nelson's Zigzag for the Symbian platform (circa 2002). It never worked out. I worried recently that I didn't catch the wave (eg, Symbian), but now I know that the iPhone changed distribution, and actually the time is ripe for Zigzag to take off on mobile phones.
zandorg··on How SQLite is tested
Well, I told the author of SQLite that a double inner join took forever to complete. He just told me I was wrong, but this inner join worked fine on PostGres, MySql and so on.

It annoys me, because neither PostGres not MySql are a binary file you can just run with a query, unlike SQLite which is very convenient for embedding in a desktop app.

zandorg··on HP CEO: We’re screwed (for the next few years)
An ex-graduate of my University came to give a talk in 2003 about his job with HP, and he seemed unable to tell the difference between revenue and profit! Hence, HP had a 'profit' of $51 billion rather than a 'revenue' of $51 billion.
