They should hire people from the Grok team. By now they should have lots of experience fixing "bugs" like this.
zaik··on Parley: Federated, decentralised chat that speaks plain IRC
You're in luck: Some people already thought of this, submitted an RFC to the IETF and implemented it. It goes by the name XMPP.
zaik··on PipePipe: NewPipe hard fork implementing SponsorBlock
How do you verify you get the right data from your peers? With torrents we know the correct hashes for each block. YouTube probably doesn't do this.

Monal is decent on iOS.
zaik··on We're gonna need a lot more mathematicians
> The current approach to resource distribution worked so far.

For you.

zaik··on Excel now supports multiple values in a single cell
With this new functionality, you could store 10000 samples of the distribution in the cell. Then broadcast your computations to the sample axis.
zaik··on Show HN: Jev Plays Pokémon Red
Seems like it got stuck on a Ghost enemy.

He should be awarded the FIFA Environment Protection prize.
zaik··on Measure internet censorship
It's part of nixpkgs so I tried it out. I killed the process when it started writing something big to my disk. Why is it doing that?
zaik··on Measure internet censorship
Yes, I do know people who voted for the party that pushes things like this in my country.
zaik··on Global bond yields hit 2008 highs, raising stakes for big borrowers
Hopefully I'm looking at the right thing, but it looks like market expections are that you will get more USD per EUR in the future: https://www.cmegroup.com/markets/fx/g10/euro-fx.quotes.html

There will be shenanigans with the definition of a token to save on tax.
zaik··on Disruption with Some GitHub Services – Resolved
I think the authors of SMTP had a healthy attitude towards server uptimes:

Retries continue until the message is transmitted or the sender gives
up; the give-up time generally needs to be at least 4-5 days.

zaik··on Don't Wordle
My first guess got 3green+2gray. Should have undone immediately.
zaik··on A new ceiling for Λ: the de Bruijn–Newman constant
> energy to assess the correctness and relevance of such "results".

The author claims to have a proof in Lean. Checking the correctness of the result is now reduced to checking the definition of the constant.

zaik··on Jabber/XMPP: 25 Years of Digital Independence
Which is surprising since XMPP allows you to hide your global address in public rooms and Matrix doesn't (unless they fixed it by now?).
zaik··on Jabber/XMPP: 25 Years of Digital Independence
> mess of what server/client supports

If you allow for independent implementations of the protocol this will always happen. Also, inventing another non-standard protocol creates even more incompatibility between clients and servers.

That's what gemini:// is for.

zaik··on Jason Arday, ex-Cambridge professor at centre of plagiarism row, found dead
From the same article:

> The overall prevalence of SA [suicide attempts] in our aggregate sample was .8%. These figures approached the prevalence of SA in Americans aged 18–39 (1.0%) and in the general population of adults over 18 (.6%).

zaik··on Tech sucks: You have to vote with your wallet, or nothing will change
But what about relative power?

US GDP / #votes in last presidential election = 208608 USD

You must indeed have a big wallet if you perceive it to be more powerful than your vote. Only a small percentage of people spend that much in a year.

zaik··on Tech sucks: You have to vote with your wallet, or nothing will change
> easy to use without a google account

I'm doing that and I had to get a second phone with a Google account just for banking and government apps. Not exactly easy I would say.

zaik··on Tech sucks: You have to vote with your wallet, or nothing will change
The EU shows that regular voting is also an option.
zaik··on Kalshi and Polymarket bets on clinical trials criticized as 'ghastly'
I never heard of this. Do we know somebody who was killed this way?
zaik··on Why Book Corners won't sync contributions back to OpenStreetMap
OSM is interested in pictures, even of bookcases:

https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:image

The only difficulty is data than can not be easily represented in key=value pairs, such as timetables for buses. But even this can be resolved by adding external references.
