I was just having a conversation the other day about the demise of niche websites. There really are only about 20 websites on the internet anyway, rather than the millions and millions of vertical sites maintained by people passionate about their subject matter.
TOTP -> Time-based One Time Password SMS -> Delivery mechanism.
You can deliver TOTP over SMS.
Obviously, SMS shouldn't be used, but I was under the impression that the code generation mechanism and the code generation algorithms are completely disparate concepts.
My kids are exceptional students, smart, do all the same activites as other kids. All the other kids curse, too, they just pretend they don't in front of their parents. It's a very silly game.
I've also found it's best to question anytime someone suggests a technology "doesn't scale."
You can always just disable the screensaver on your Mac if you'd like. Amphetamine really helps when you have MDM installed or something that requires your computer to sleep every so often.
A significant precent of ticket sales are last minute. A friend tagging a long or someone waiting for prices to drop. Food spoils and looses quality fast, but so do good from many industries. I think carving out an exception for food is potentially a slippery slope.
It would probably be better to carve out exceptions for any item that could potentially be worthless after some amount of time. Live event tickets, food, travel, etc.
I vividly remember BBS and IRC handles with variations of 31337 in them in the 80s. I'm sure it goes back even farther.
I'm sure the POS at your corner store somehow interacts with AWS or GCP, but I'm not sure that should 'count.' As well as not visiting any site that is hosted on a cloud provider.
You could almost certainly live a life with significantly reduced quality by living without the tech giants directly, but to not visit websites that are hosted on AWS, and still shop at a local shop that uses Square or other payment provider that's hosted in the cloud seems disingenuous to me.
I can, however, chose to buy a different phone.
The only 'expense' is the few hours to relearn a few keystrokes.
Yes, that might be an oversimplification, but it's really not that expeisve or difficult to move from one platform to antother.
Also the commuter/long distance tracks are all owned by the freight liners, so passanger trains have to yield for them. There are also hour+ stops at some stations.
