I work for a startup called DLVR (Deliver) and we do this for video streams. HLS, DASH, MSS http://www.dlvr.com
zackb··on Ask HN: Which books have made you introspect?
And if you like that, I'd recommend "Not Always So: Practicing the True Spirit of Zen" which feels like a continuation of "Zen Mind, Beginners Mind"
zackb··on Google confirms next Android won’t implement Oracle's proprietary Java APIs
I'd love to see a bigger push for golang support for Android.
zackb··on Nietzsche – The Dionysian Impulse (2009)
Totally agree. Beyond Good and Evil is my favorite.
zackb··on Show HN: Realm for Android
Doesn't this require annotating the class? What if I can't change the class implementation?
zackb··on Show HN: Realm for Android
I've always wondered how folks handle the Parcelable[1] interface with libraries like this. If you have a realm object that you want to have in memory between activity destroy/create how do you handle this? For instance if I rotate the screen the activity is destroyed and recreated for the new orientation. As I understand it the Parcelable interface and Bundle[2] is the way to handle this but how can you do this if you're using third party classes/objects?

Thanks!

zackb··on TXT Record XSS
I think his point is that DNS doesn't require the TCP or HTTP overhead. There are more steps and layers involved with an HTTP GET and reply than with DNS resolution.

zackb··on Introducing Quip
This is happening to me too. I can't signup.
zackb··on Twitter RSS
Thats a cool idea. I wonder if the "Rules of the Road" 100k user limit would apply in such a case. https://dev.twitter.com/docs/terms/summary
zackb··on Pros and cons of popular mobile analytics platforms
Just out of curiosity, where is http://yoz.io. That's what we went with in our apps and think it's pretty good. I wonder if we should consider one of these though.
zackb··on Show HN: Fact check last night's Presidential debate with Quip
Doesn't work in Safari. Can't leave an annotation. QUOTA_EXCEEDED_ERR: DOM Exception 22: An attempt was made to add something to storage that exceeded the quota.
zackb··on Unlimited music from youtube videos (very alpha'ish)
Really cool! I've been using it all morning too. I love the UI and the responsiveness. I'm sure you're working on it but would love the ability to create, save, and share playlists. Thank you for sharing.
zackb··on How To Work From Home Like You Mean It
Been doing it for four years and couldn't agree more with most of this list. Plus, I'll add a couple of these to my repertoire. I'd also add that getting a fair amount of exercise reduces the cabin fever that comes with working from home. And the flexible hours allow you to get to the gym when no one else is there. I've found the biggest problem is not staying focused but being able to turn work off at night and live a somewhat regular life. +1 for Podcasts and maybe add Howard Stern and Sirius to the list :)

zackb··on Google scores most effective TV ad with Dear Sophie
Sorry, but this is just creepy and weird. Not to mention it's a PITA and facebook does it better.
zackb··on Eclipse launches new language to cut down Java boilerplate - Extend
I like seeing the JVM becoming a platform. Even if this particular language looks a bit silly compared to the others.
zackb··on Send Youtube videos to your Dropbox folder
It is a violation of the YouTube EULA and there will also be bandwidth/rate limits imposed.
zackb··on Send Youtube videos to your Dropbox folder
How are you going to deal with the YouTube rate limit that is about to (or already has) hit?
zackb··on Ask HN: What programming blogs do you read daily?
I've always liked Ryan Flynn's blog and link collection http://www.parseerror.com/
zackb··on Google Killing Off Buzz and Code Search
Did they give a reason for shutting down code search? I didn't see it but think it deserves some kind of explanation of the decision.
zackb··on ViTunes
Love it! Thank you for sharing your hard work.
zackb··on Cluster SSH (OSX)
I've been using this tool for about a year and absolutely love it. It really comes in handy managing messes of EC2 instances.
zackb··on Poll: How much do you average per freelancing gig?
How do you go about doing estimation? When you are asked for a bid and have loose requirements what are some good practices for estimating?
zackb··on MetaLab launches "Flow" Asana competitor
The UI is absolutely gorgeous. And I thought the intro video was very well done. I've been looking for an alternative to Things.app for a while. OmniFocus is just too expensive and won't let me collaborate with my family members. I really like that you buy once and run anywhere as opposed to Omni's method of buying an individual app for Mac, iPhone, iPad. $10 a month seems like too much though. I would suggest a cheaper (free?) version for 1-2 users. That being said, I'm still signing up.
