yogrish··on Tesla's self driving algorithm's overlay [video]
Please understand, Tesla works only with only Camera & Radars (at L2 level). Where as Google Waymo works with pretty expensive and lot of redundant sensors ie., 360degree LIDAR, cameras & Radars (at L4 level). Tesla sells vehicles in volumes, Waymo doesn't (as it is exhorbitant). Hence comparison is not apple to apple. I do agree Visualisation in the google video is more appealing. I assume Tesla also has state of art visualations for their algo development.

yogrish··on Bosch is finally making Lidar sensors for autonomous cars
Bosch is tier 1 supplier of components and parts to OEMs like VW, Daimler etc. they are already making Radar and camera sensors and systems. Every component supplier is into self driving development as they provide these Algos along with their sensors and systems. Their competitors in this space include DELPHI, continental, autoliv etc

spot on. I feel this is an abuse of technology. They want to take Touch to next level with gesture, but it is doomed to fail unless they solve other issues as you pointed out(just my opinion). Gesture might be good for gaming (ex:kinect). I worked on Hover touch in one of the big smartphone company. we achieved good results at different heights but eventually it didn't take off. After all Humans need a sense of touch to interact.

yogrish··on BMW unveils car sprayed with Vantablack
How safe is it esp. in low light/nights? Unless other vehicles have Radar/LiDAR sensors, it’s not so easy to detect.camera sensors might face challenges to detect this car. Other vehicles might hit this vanta black parked car.
yogrish··on Google AI Education Resources
For me the biggest problem, as manager to build AI team, is everyone talks jargons of AI/DL through these kind of courses. How do I find out who knows in depth? Do you have any intriguing questions you have that can quickly separate the wheat from chaff? Is there any Questionnaire on AI/DL that help select (AI expert)/prepare (for Job interview)?
yogrish··on TensorFlow Graphics: Computer Graphics Meets Deep Learning
Really cool. “Analysis by synthesis “ way can probably increase the performance of networks. I am looking at autonomous driving scenarios where it can remove false object detections.

yogrish··on Ask HN: How to speak like a leader, not like an engineer?
He didn’t offer any feedback. I went to him with a problem of my reportee’s salary concern. Where in, I cannot take a call and do false promise. But, he says that I need to come with a solution. And says he can’t spoon feed me on how to solve the issue.
yogrish··on Ask HN: How to speak like a leader, not like an engineer?
Yes, he likes to listen to solutions rather than teams problems/worries. Good advice.
yogrish··on Man says CES lidar’s laser was so powerful it wrecked his camera
“Lidar sensors could also damage the cameras on other self-driving cars.“ so eventaulally driverless Cars spoil each other camera sensors and can’t recognize pedestrians, traffic signs. How can cameras be immune to high power laser beams?

Thanks for sharing. Brought back my memoirs with "MISHA". They were so lively and imaginative. Some copies we can get even now from book stores like "Vishalandhra". Russian books on space has inspired me alot to become an engineer. I used to like story of Yuri Gagarin from one of the Russian books.
yogrish··on Qualcomm says Apple is $7B behind in royalty payments
can I know why i am being down voted. I gave the information that I am familiar with.
yogrish··on Qualcomm says Apple is $7B behind in royalty payments
“Qualcomm bullied Samsung” you got to be kidding. Samsung has internal Modem team working hard to replace QC chipsets, but never successful wrt performance, it was pathetic. So Samsung took approach of using QC chipset in premium market segments and dumped their own modem chipsets in countries like India, Korea.
yogrish··on Gravity defying root that travels upstream with no push
Any thoughts on What’s the physics behind this? Can we explore this to create an efficient water transport mechanism.
yogrish··on Self-Driving Cars Can Handle Neither Rain nor Sleet nor Snow
Not to be Cynical,Somehow the article sounded like a sales pitch for "Wavesense". They too want to have pie out in the self driving race. As mentioned in the article, each sensor(Radar,Lidar,Camera) has a limitation on its own. But, Self driving cars depend not just on one sensor but on Fused output of sensor. Also, they use V2V, HD maps and GPS/DR for localisation. Wavesense is another sensor that can solve localisation problem. They too might have difficulty in cases where there are fallen metal objects that reflect different signatures, causing trouble. More the sensors, more the confidence for Self driving.

Edit: Grammar & some terminology

yogrish··on NTSB: Autopilot steered Tesla car toward traffic barrier before deadly crash
This is where simulators play an important role. Many AD( automated driving) solution suppliers are investing into simulators to create different scenarios and test performance of their sensors and also SW. Else, as you said it’s impossible to drive billions of miles to cover all usecases.

yogrish··on Why Self-Taught Artificial Intelligence Has Trouble with the Real World
Limitations of AI reminds me of "Moravec's paradox" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moravec%27s_paradox As Moravec says, "it is comparatively easy to make computers exhibit adult level performance on intelligence tests or playing checkers, and difficult or impossible to give them the skills of a one-year-old when it comes to perception and mobility."

yogrish··on How the LIDAR tech GM just bought probably works
COntinental Bought High flash 3D Lidar company. It seems promising to detect objects at 200mts and at very less cost compared to velodyne Lidars.
yogrish··on Ask HN: Where do I get started on ASICs, FPGA, RTL, Verilog et. al?
Well said on IPCORES. IPCORES are like sw librarians implemented in hardware in order to accelerate the performance. For example you frequently hear cores like JPEG, H264, HEVC and other signal poricessing or enctryption cores. Basically with HW IP cores, the performance is realtime.
yogrish··on Facebook, You Needy Sonofabitch
It's the best advice to stay happy. I also removed the app last month on my mobile and it helped me to have a very happy weekend as I don't get to login on my laptop. Earlier on weekends I watch FB in morning and get depressed coz one of my friends friend (out of 500 odd friends) went to Europe and had good time but I feel like a loser and screw up my day.
