yoelo··on Get notified when GitHub IPv6 support is Live
Is there some kind of list out there on IPv6 support of popular APIs? Would love to eliminate IPv4 egress but not even Stripe supports IPv6 for their API yet
yoelo··on Twitter Is Down Globally
Apart from this, that has left the timeline completely broken, has anyone else noticed that the timeline on mobile doesn't auto-update anymore? It's often out of date and I have to refresh it manually, which I didn't use to. Maybe a hardcore measure to save server capacity?
yoelo··on Twitter Blue for $8/Month
As much as I don't like Musk, I think there is a good proposition for the YouTube-model of paying for an ad-free experience. However, aside that YouTube is a place with much better content, YouTube costs ~$5/monthly and is actually ad-free instead of half ad-free. How one can think this is a good idea is beyond me
yoelo··on Europe’s heatwave is forcing nuclear power plants to shut down (2018)
While this is a recurring problem, the article itself is from 2018. Here is a more recent article about the same subject https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-07-15/french-nu...
yoelo··on Bitcoin Falls Below $20k for the First Time Since 2020
Where are you following the development? The exchange I'm observing still shows just above 19k

Edit: never mind I misread the candlesticks

yoelo··on Amazon more than doubles max base pay to $350k
They should do this to warehouse workers instead who deserve it way more
yoelo··on Amazon activist’s firing deemed illegal by labor board officials
It seems like he is currently missing https://twitter.com/AmirKhafagy91/status/1485032049366994945
yoelo··on Every DoorDash employee, from engineers to CEO, will make deliveries
Will they also be paid the same shitty salary?
yoelo··on Facebook-owned sites were down
Seriously? Is that how it works?
yoelo··on ClearURLs – automatically remove tracking elements from URLs
I didn't care when it was only utm_ paramters, but the incredible amount of garbage that facebook throws in made me install the plugin
yoelo··on “About one-third of Basecamp employees accepted buyouts today”
Looking at what DHH tweets, it sure seems like the only acceptable politics at Basecamp is what helps selling their product
yoelo··on Signal Adds Cryptocurrency Support
Good point. My main point is perhaps that this shouldn't be up to one dude that loves crypto assets – that there should be a signal community making decisions.
yoelo··on Signal Adds Cryptocurrency Support
I find this incredibly offensive. Has there been any deliberation in the Signal community on whether or not this is something that Signal should have?
yoelo··on In Stockholm there's currently an IT battle underway
Corruption and inefficiency of this kind is a relatively new phenomenon, stemming from a regime of letting private contractors run the whole show. A fun fact is that Stockholm has one of the most expensive buildings in the world: Nya Karolinska, which has cost (converted from Swedish currency) around 2 billion dollars. The reason behind this is that construction was run as a public-private partnership. Meaning you shove loads of cash into private hands while you get none of the benefit.
yoelo··on In Stockholm there's currently an IT battle underway
The devs don't work for the Stockholm region nor the government. They are contractors. Stockholm is notorious for terrible fragmented outsourcing programs
yoelo··on The Shame of Swedish Education: J’Accuse
What you're saying, especially the part about "slightly better organised and attract students that care enough about their education" is talking point rhethoric and not anything substantiated in fact. The schools get a fixed amount of money per student from the state. If you have students with high socio-economic status, you can get away with having fewer teachers per student, as well has having teachers that aren't properly educated. One of the more prominent for-profit charter schools is the "International English School" (IES). They aren't only "English" for marketing purposes (because being an "English" school means you can do more marketing about teaching with "higher discipline"), they are also "English" because that allows them to get away with recruiting more teachers from abroad. This is what for-profit charter schools are about. You can't "optimize" what's essentially a service institution. You can only cut to better your margins. Or cheat, which they do. Not only by having fewer authorized teachers, but also by straight up inveting better grades for students, which is something that helps with marketing (see a pattern here?).
yoelo··on The Shame of Swedish Education: J’Accuse
Profit-driven schools don't cater to gifted kids. They cater to kids with rich and highly educated parents. The goal is to do less, to extract more profit.
yoelo··on Rideshare operations are being suspended in California
Exactly. Uber and Lyft are a 19th century labor situation which masks itself by using 21st century technology
yoelo··on Ayn Rand Institute approved for PPP loan
Can't get more Ayn Rand than this. She lived on social security and medicare in the later part of her life after all
yoelo··on New iPhone SE
I was looking forward to this phone but will not buy as it doesn't not have a 3.5mm jack
yoelo··on The Great $50M African IP Address Heist
And what drives this neither "socialism or capitalism" corruption? Not the hunt for extracting profit by any means?
yoelo··on Google’s fires four organizers after hiring union-busting firm
Care to tell us which articles?
yoelo··on The IRS has granted nonprofit status to a daily newspaper
The requirement of 401c(3)s to be "non-political" looks like a pretty weird to someone that doesn't live in the US. Why do non-profits have to work with that suppression while for-profit companies won't? Does anyone here know the historical context for this?
yoelo··on Amazon won't spin off AWS. That's hurting AWS
Weird how you can consider this a "clusterf%%%" as opposed to the existance of Uber itself: an unprofitable company that only barters for monopoly power while treating everyone down the chain like shit.

Not that I'm behind splitting up companies. Everything that turns into a monopoly should be nationalized instead.

yoelo··on MacBook Pro Keyboard Drives Me Crazy
The Touch Bar really annoys me too. Not that having some sort of status display is bad, but replacing actual useful keys with ones that give you no haptic feedback on key presses, is really terrible design. When I shop computers for colleagues I usually buy 2015 Macbooks to save them from the terrible experience that it is to use a newer one.
yoelo··on I feel like im talking to the borg
Nice try Jeff Bezos!
