yitchelle··on Giant sequoias are a rapidly growing feature of the UK landscape
I noticed that redwoodworld.co.uk had saplings for sale. Very intriguing.
yitchelle··on Xonsh: Python-powered, cross-platform, Unix-gazing shell
This bring back memory of my younger self playing with the BASIC Interpreter cartridge in my old Atari 800.

With this setup, you can...

* create a BASIC program right at the command prompt

* execute instructions to read and write to mass storage.

* debug your BASIC program at the command prompt

* direct access to memory addresses via peek and poke commands

yitchelle··on Show HN: Atopile – Design circuit boards with code
Designing circuit boards is not than describing a collection of electronic components and how each component's pins are connected together.

For circuit board design we are missing * PCB layer management

* copper dimensioning

* track management

* Design rules management

* many others....

At best, I would describe this tool as a vim for schematic capture in its current iteration.

One question to the founders, what are the real pain points for you that atopile are relieving?

yitchelle··on Ask HN: Any good Silicon Valley Photo coffee table books?
I got a X-T1 about 6 months ago from eBay for around 250€. It does a wonderful job of films simulation. Still very surprised that a 10year old camera can take such wonderful pictures.
yitchelle··on Bug Thread
LOL. There should be at least a commment from someone trying out a 2year old SO answer that did not fix it. :-)
yitchelle··on A woman bought a vintage dress. It had a secret pocket with a mysterious note
I guess a money saving hack would be to string everything together using underscores :-)
yitchelle··on Why do big companies ask unrealistic software engineering interview questions?
The thing is that for problems that are mildly complex, it is rarely that it is solved by a single person. So getting a person to solve complex problem under interview conditions is totally unrealistic. If they are really using this as a filter, they are really doing themselves a disservice.
yitchelle··on Show HN: I made a site to simplify recommending talented people to others
That would suggest that to get value, you would already have a network of folks that has good synergies with you, right? Are the vouches private between the parties or is that information socialised on the feed? There might be value in this type of transparency.
yitchelle··on Power over fiber
For layman, can someone explain how much power are the lights emitted? I mean can it be used to burn wood, or the cut through sheets of metal.
yitchelle··on Fewer people are buying electric cars in the US
Can roadside assist help if your batteries are exhausted?
yitchelle··on Norad Tracks Santa (2013)
Merry Christmas!
yitchelle··on The day I started believing in unit tests
The gem of this story is the author is not running unit test in what most folks understand a unit test is. As he also pointed out, he is executing the tests on target so it is more of an integration tests rather than unit tests. In the test that he is doing, it brings in new categories of potential faults. ie scheduling issues, memory constraints, interrupts servicing,
yitchelle··on Plane got to top spot in project management on GitHub in less than a year
If the OP had said private projects, I would agree but he mentioned private tasks. So I imagined him using the tool for daily chores and such. but I think your statement make more sense.
yitchelle··on What We Watched: A Netflix engagement report
or healthier
yitchelle··on Plane got to top spot in project management on GitHub in less than a year
Who would you escalate to if you run out of capacity to wash your dishes in your current sprint? :-)

Joking aside, how would you use this tool for your private tasks?

yitchelle··on Crush Your Interviews with the Power of Storytelling
The audience must be factored in when crafting the story. Because it dictates aspects of it. the language used, the embellishments added/removed, delivery method, the actors etc must be carefully crafted.

Some stories are short and straight to the point.

I had a colleague where if the analogies are used to as part of the story told, the message is not full understood by him.

yitchelle··on EP–133
As I load up the website, it dithers for a moment before the full image comes up. I love this effect...Have I gone full circle from my dialup days? I think I have...
yitchelle··on The hottest new perk in tech is freedom
No joke. I saw a job advert classifying bank holidays as a perk. Job was in a western European country.
yitchelle··on A $200 mini-laptop with a Intel 8088 chip and 640KB
But what is it that you want to do with these retro computers beside playing Wolf3D? As you mentioned even the most basic of RPi can run the pants of the Atari ST machines, so it is hardly a fair usage of the computer if you want to do modern tasks.
yitchelle··on CRISPR cancer trial success paves the way for personalized treatments
Sadly, physical calculators will soon be extinct as it will be replaced with calc app on the mobile phones.
yitchelle··on Octopuses caught on camera throwing things at each other
For some reason, I imagined it would use its eight appendages and throw things like you see in a cartoon. Maybe I am watching too many cartoons. :-)
yitchelle··on Tech CEO fired two engineers for having second full-time jobs
>> is banned from volunteering at their local soup kitchen every evening.

Is that a real thing in the US?

yitchelle··on Tech CEO fired two engineers for having second full-time jobs
I always wondered how far some companies will go to enforce this.

For example if my second job is as a professional actor in the local musical production, would all my creative IP and earnings belong to my main job? Maybe this example is too far remove from reality.

yitchelle··on BuiltWith: $14M ARR, no employees
I reckon that it's all done with contractors and gig workers. Its the uber way of running their business.
yitchelle··on Leap Technology (1987) [video]
For me, what would really help in my typing is to improve my accuracy as my most used key is the backspace key. Beside more practice, any hints?
yitchelle··on Leap Technology (1987) [video]
Just realised the my left thumb is not even hitting any keys. It is left idling.
yitchelle··on Hacker News stylized as a retro 90s macOS desktop
Great work! Not sure if it is only on my setup (Chrome and Win10), but it feels a bit snappier with a faster response time.
yitchelle··on Play MSDOS Oregon Trail 1990 on archive.org
Shameless promotion to my twitter handle for retro tech adverts. I've been posting those amazing old tech adverts out of magazines 90s, 80s and older.

yitchelle··on Ask HN: How do you get side gigs?
As @loudouncodes mentioned, no easy way but to network and to market yourself. But you also need to consider which aspect of yourself you want to sell as the side gig.

* Would you write a book to impart your knowledge to the readers?

* Would you sell your physical hours in delivering work products?

* Would you sell your advice via consulting?

Many ways to cut this fruit, and still have it taste good. Best of luck on your ventures.

yitchelle··on German digital signage ban prompts confusion
It always intrigue me that eInk has not made bigger inroads into the digital signage market, especially for static images.

Colour signage sell more products than Black and White? Probably.
