yisonPylkita··on Cross-Platform P2P Wi-Fi: How the EU Killed AWDL
Port replacement on recent MacBooks is quite easy to do since it is a separate part connected to internal port. I wish more laptop manufacturers followed Apple’s steps
yisonPylkita··on Show HN: FlashSpace – fast, open-source, macOS Spaces replacement
Thank you! I've just installed it and so far it works great
yisonPylkita··on Apple’s Vision Pro AR headset is finally here
Apple investing a lot of silicon into AI and GPU cores in Apple Silicone for a few years now makes sense given what they are presenting here
yisonPylkita··on Optional If Expressions
Option<> type works well in Rust because compiler enforces its proper usage. In dynamic languages programmers are on their own
yisonPylkita··on A New Old Idea; Permacomputing
All nice things eventually end and current world peace will probably end one day too. If we want to preserve our technological advancements through civilisation ending disasters then people should start working on enabling anyone to manufacture chips easily. Something like 3D printing revolution but for silicon. Only then Open Hardware initiatives will really make sense.
yisonPylkita··on Factorio runs on Apple Silicon
I want to mention here that Factorio doesn't use Apple Metal API. They use OpenGL and Apple dropped OpenGL in favour of Metal

yisonPylkita··on Researchers: World can reach 100% renewable energy system by/before 2050
The problem with getting electricity from Spain or Morocco (or any other country) during winter is not a technical but a political one. Once a nation energy security depends on an another nation you may end up in situation Germany found herself in

Yet Germany still depends heavily on imported Russian gas despite all of theirs green propaganda
yisonPylkita··on Researchers: World can reach 100% renewable energy system by/before 2050
Especially Russia since they’ll only benefit from climate change - destabilisation of Europe via refugees from Africa and more arable land in Taiga
yisonPylkita··on How I clean my glasses
I second this. Don’t use any kind of cloth. Just blow over your glasses a few times, droplets will disappear. Even finest cloth will leave scratches over time. Also it will reapply dirt and grease that naturally builds up as you use it
yisonPylkita··on Why a Zimbabwean firm offers pensions denominated in cows
I'm from Poland and I used to hear a lot more old denomination style in countryside up to 10 years ago. Not so much today.
yisonPylkita··on A statically typed scripting language that transpiles to Posix sh
I would love to hear more about that. Does someone here have an experience with V lang and can tell us if its claims are at least close to truth?
yisonPylkita··on Apple M1 Ultra
Bill said it 40 years ago and here we are with 2 orders of prefix more of memory. I wonder if in next 40 years we'll get to 640 peta bytes
yisonPylkita··on Apple Event March 8, 2022
128GB of RAM in M1 Ultra is unimpressive compared to 1.5TB of RAM in Mac Pro. Right now Apple doesn’t have a replacement for Mac Pro with Apple Silicon

EDIT: At the end of the presentation Apple said Mac Pro refresh is coming later so let’s wait and see

yisonPylkita··on Lapce – Fast and Powerful Code Editor written in Rust
Looks promising. Always nice to see a movement to slim-down RAM and CPU usage of our tools.

Will this editor allow me to run it with rust-analyzer code completion?

yisonPylkita··on California tried to save the nation from tax filing, then Intuit stepped in
I recommend hiring an accountant. For as low as 50€/month I don’t have to worry about filling taxes (I’m programmer on a contract)
yisonPylkita··on Maintain It with Zig
Thank you. I had no idea that you could do such a thing in C11 preprocessor
yisonPylkita··on System76 Pangolin Linux-first laptop with AMD internals now in stock
Yeah, good luck updating firmware of your docking station or using DisplayPort's from it under Linux
yisonPylkita··on ARM64EC: Building Native and Interoperable Apps for Windows 11 on ARM
> Nothing prevents MS to do the same

There is a big difference between Apple's transitions between architectures and failed attempts by Microsoft - Apple is also a sole creator of its hardware, not only software. After they announced transition no more PowerPC would be sold few years later. Microsoft can only dream of banning hardware producers from making x86 laptops/desktops

yisonPylkita··on Airbnb S-1
They’re asking for your religion because it makes a difference in your taxes and days free of work
yisonPylkita··on Show HN: Using Rust to write shell-script like tasks
My god, this super useful when you have a mix o shell commands and processing text output from them. Bash isn’t particularly easy to work with parsing non-trivial strings in a readable way (I’m looking at you awk)
yisonPylkita··on Popular seafood species in sharp decline around the world
I see little bit of difference between man killing weapons and food
yisonPylkita··on Disabling Snaps in Ubuntu 20.04
My god! Being unable to use snaps when you have “non-standard” home directory is ridiculous. What’s even more ridiculous is a response from snap developers - they marked this issue as “Won’t Fix”.

Dear snap developers, don’t make false assumptions that every user in Linux has to have home directory as /home/username just because standard Ubuntu installer does this. Only thing that you should care about here is $HOME
