yelnatz··on Atom 1.8 and 1.9 beta
Sublime is already slow as hell for me. (I open a lot of logs)

I can't imagine going any slower...

yelnatz··on An Analysis of 155 Postmortems from Game Development [pdf]
Rust is not a mod, but is a clone of a mod of Arma2 called DayZ.
yelnatz··on Amphetamine use in America's workforce
How do they act differently?
yelnatz··on 85 percent of Facebook video is watched without sound
A tidbit that I found interesting recently is that their video stream is different from the audio stream source.

Kind of a no-brainer optimization if you think about it.

yelnatz··on Clang emits memcpy for std::swap, which can introduce undefined behavior
If you extract it for only one case, it's easier to read.

  >An rvalue t is swappable if and only if t is swappable with any rvalue of type T
yelnatz··on Scaling Airbnb with Brian Chesky – Class 18 Notes of Stanford’s CS183C (2015)
This is amazing, thanks!
yelnatz··on Remote code execution, git, and OS X
Thanks.

Yea, /usr/bin/git is still there:

    $ git --version
    $ git version 2.6.4 (Apple Git-63)
But glad to know it won't do anything.
yelnatz··on Remote code execution, git, and OS X

chmod: /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/usr/bin/git: No such file or directory
I don't have Xcode installed, do I have to install it back to do this?
yelnatz··on Remote code execution, git, and OS X
How do I replace /usr/bin/git?

I got the updated brew version downloaded already.

yelnatz··on Remote code execution, git, and OS X
I did the same and its refusing to let me replace it.
yelnatz··on Monads Explained Quickly
Everyone here is saying the article is wrong, but no one really adds anything or corrects the author.

Can you expand?

yelnatz··on Why Erlang Matters
Much of the Ruby influence is because the creator of Elixir (José) was previously from the Rails core team.
yelnatz··on Lessons from a Google App Engine SRE on how to serve over 100B requests per day
1,157,407 requests per second.
yelnatz··on Vitter's reservoir sampling algorithm D: randomly selecting unique items
Yeah, the article was pretty dense so I just slogged through it hoping I would get to the explanation part.

Nope, it just gave me ugly c code at the end.

yelnatz··on Chinese Buy One-Third of Vancouver Homes: National Bank Estimate
Wow I really bombed this quiz.
yelnatz··on Original Diablo Pitch Document (1994) [pdf]
I work in a game studio, I still can't wrap my head around one guy doing it all.
yelnatz··on Hey Look, It's Every Bootstrap Website Ever
How come this didn't highjack my scrollbar?
yelnatz··on Western Digital makes a $46, 314GB hard drive just for the Raspberry Pi
Damn, got to the end of the checkout process before I noticed it was US only.
yelnatz··on Managing two million web servers
The Phoenix Framework (web framework for Elixir) already solves this for you.[1]

It's called Phoenix.Presence. They used a combination of CRDTs with heartbeats to implement it.

You are right, it is a hard problem because of the distributed nature of Erlang/Elixir. That's why Chris provided a framework level solution for it.

yelnatz··on Managing two million web servers
This is Joe's blog, he co-created Erlang 30 years ago.

So he's not really affiliated with any company, but rather a voice for Erlang itself.

yelnatz··on Managing two million web servers
Erlang process != OS process.
yelnatz··on Undersea Cable System Cuts in Singapore
Yea, I was pretty shocked when I learned about this when I was young.

"So you're telling me there's literally cables under the sea that connects continents together?"

yelnatz··on Electronic Arts Standard Template Library for C++ Open Sourced
For the lazy:

std_sort_time: 0.08805380923877237s (11.908354778344838 M keys/s)

eastl_sort_time: 0.07010223707038676s (14.957810817751337 M keys/s)

EA's sort seems to respond better to full program optimisation than std::sort. Platform: vs2012 x64, i7 CPU.

yelnatz··on Without affordable housing, Vancouver risks becoming an economic ghost town
It's really painful.

Having average home price of $1.8m while the median salary is at $60k. Something really needs to be done to help out Vancouverites.

yelnatz··on The Zen of Erlang
That's not even the Challenger.

It's from the Orbital Sciences Antares explosion.

yelnatz··on Tableau stock down almost 50%
Well, as some who doesn't can you enlighten me?
yelnatz··on LinkedIn shares drop 40%, erasing $10B of company's value
I fell for this a couple of times. They grabbed my friends email and created a fake profile for her.

When I clicked connect, I thought I would invite her to my network, but it ended up with an invite to LinkedIn to her email.

yelnatz··on Why did Facebook decide to shut down Parse?
Slack is not mission critical, you mean.
yelnatz··on Introducing Bootstrap Studio
Same $50 but lifetime updates and no limited installs.

Charge me again for Bootstrap studio 3 or something but don't end updates for 2 after 1 year.

yelnatz··on Introducing Bootstrap Studio
I was actually hyped a little bit until I saw your comment. Forgot about the price.

$50 for 1 year free updates and only 3 installs is a little bit steep.
