"Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!"
yehoshuapw··on OEMpocalypse: Unprivileged Android app to root on Samsung, Xiaomi, others
would you install such a app (without compiling from source)? I would not trust it to not come with "friends"

(but would love to verify and use)

yehoshuapw··on If coding is solved, what now?: Measuring the sloppiness of code
that is true, but if the metric is what we want optimized, then that's fine.

However it is more likely to be something which can be detached..

yehoshuapw··on Your intellectual fly is open when you use an LLM to author a post (2025)
extra reviews never hurt. But trusting only the AI to both code and review security-wise? not even close to usable
yehoshuapw··on Why older tech is sometimes safer from hackers
mostly, because setting up a separate network is harder.

a virtual network built upon the regular internet is much easier.

And yes, mostly done wrong

yehoshuapw··on My agent.md to improve LLM-assisted code quality
I don't know. I fully agree, and never did really try out this in depth yet.

I suspect rules with negations are not the same as don't rules, but unknown if really true, if so:

"when writing code do not add comments, code should not need it" may work

yehoshuapw··on My agent.md to improve LLM-assisted code quality
I've come recently across arxiv 2604.20911

which claims "do" rules persist much better then "don't" rules.

yehoshuapw··on Dancing with friends and enemies: boids' swarm intelligence (2012)
I find it fascinating how (in the new version) the further away clumps stay separate, until something small from the larger swarm reaches them, then they all merge back to it
yehoshuapw··on $580M undersea cable rerouted to avoid the grave of Dobby the House Elf
while I do agree with this point, I want to point out that this isn't quite a fair comparison.

every single entity has (normally) a single (real) burial site. Us grouping many unknowns in one group, and comparing to a single specific one is not quite fair...

there is only one burial site of many other fictional characters including some other well known and beloved ones.

yehoshuapw··on Can a MUD evaluate LLMs? A $99 proof of concept
discworld mud (any many others) ase still totally worth playing
yehoshuapw··on Duskers, the scary command line game, is getting a sequel
iirc "nav" works to, and all commands have a shorter prefix which works
yehoshuapw··on What's slowing down the AI buildout
While that is true, if there is something worthwhile enough in a far and safe location - it won't stay that way

yehoshuapw··on Professor denounces mass AI fraud on an exam at Brown
I think this isn't quite the right example - a pocket calculator does not need you to verify its output. It is better to be able to calculate, but if you can't seems much less a issue then using a AI without being able to do whatever you asked of it

(So I fully agree with your point, but I think your example is not strong enough)

yehoshuapw··on Polymarket has flooded social media with deceptive videos by paid creators
and perhaps somewhat safer
yehoshuapw··on I Hate (Most) Keyboard 'Fn' Keys
can you please expand on your thoughs on the thumb cluster?

(I have a dactly I kind of finished wiring, but didn't get around to programming it yet)

yehoshuapw··on GnuCash is right. It's also why I built my own finance app
I've slowly built up a set of scripts to do this: too many different methods, but eventually I get csv files for each account, then hledger import - and finally I manually fix up details

yehoshuapw··on PostmarketOS in 2026-02: generic kernels, bans use of generative AI

yehoshuapw··on Turing Completeness of GNU find

yehoshuapw··on FreeCAD
not really. cadquery started as a freecad workbench, but moved out a long while ago. So current cadquery isn't usable inside freecad (which is a shame).
