ycosynot··on I conceived a clever musical instrument which runs in the browser
Start and end your melody with the coloured keys. It will sound good all the time (thanks to black magic and music theory); so you can unleash your rythmic, your improvisation skills, your imagination are the only limit. You have your own mother play it and she will make a beautiful melody which resonates with her and everyone I had try this were shocked from how beautiful it sounds with very little effort. You can share with friends, maybe play together with two smartphones and accompagny each other.

The theory is explained on the website. The website is for smartphone (touch to play) and desktop (keys and mouse).

Next step of the development: accompagny any piece of music without playing any wrong notes by analyzing the music's scale and most resolving keys. Work in progress!

Check the settings for mysteries and untold surprises ;D

Reminder:

Hold Shift to vibrato

Hold Ctrl for bending

Hold Tab for arpeggio

Enjoy!

ycosynot··on Show HN: Talisman – A Android instrument played with two thumbs
Thanks! I looked them up. MorphWiz looks amazing. I have no iPad but the videos look neat. I might have oversold my innovation. I have been thinking about haptic pressure as you say, this is the weakness on most devices. I am thinking about maybe using drawing devices for power users. Hey even on a drawing tablet with no display, it could be interesting to try out.

In any case, I did try my app on tablet and it feels great (and responsive on cheap CPU). Forgot to say, that there is a tremolo feature and which is key to expressiveness.

Thanks for the comment, appreciated!

ycosynot··on Show HN: Talisman – A Android instrument played with two thumbs
Hi HN,

I’m Pierre, the creator of Talisman Music. It should launch in one or 2 weeks, and frankly I'm just trying to spread the message. Basically, I asked Claude Opus 4.7 to design a better instrument than the guitar, and fitting on a smartphone's display. (No login, no subscription, no ads, no bs.)

What came about is Talisman, from our collaboration. I believe Talisman is pushing the envelope on virtual instruments, for both casuals & power users. Just look at the videos on the landing page.

I wanted something that had zero learning curve, no staves, and no chords to memorize, but still allowed for deep, expressive play. The devil is in the details. It’s a digital instrument played entirely with your two thumbs (ninjas can use 3 fingers all at once to marvelous effect) on an Android device (works great on tablet!). There is vibrato, bends, portamento, plucking, ...

The screen acts as a living surface—you drag your thumbs, and the app intelligently quantizes the input to specific scales so that "wrong" notes technically don't exist. You can only play yourself on key. I know there is power in making mistakes and offbeats, but bear with me that this is a new way to make music serenely, where it is all about improvising vibes around the root notes. Let's call it vibe playing (tho there are zero AI requests at all and it works offline).

There are different sound engines or "Souls" (e.g., a Japanese koto in a temple, a crystalline synth pad, etc.), which completely alter the visual and haptic feedback. You can see 3 of them in the landing page. There are 13 universes to explore by default, plus custom metronome beats for each style, and custom generation of shareable soul presets. You can also share a video of your performance with one button press, straight to your local folder or whatever social network you desire.

A few strict rules I followed:

  * No "App" Bloat: It works 100% offline once installed. No credit card. No login. No ads. No bullshit. I'll monetize with updates later "if it works". The base version will always be free.
  * Privacy first: There are no accounts, no telemetry, and no third-party SDKs. Local storage only.
  * Zero UI: There are no buttons or settings on the play screen. The graphic is the instrument.
This is launching on Google Play in May 2026. You can subscribe your email on the site to get an alert.

Please, if you are a musician, don't get angry at me for trying to vulgarize the process.

Hopefully any feedback, bubbling discussions, or whatever is welcome! IF anyone knows how to improve the concept, let me know!!!

ycosynot··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (March 2026)
Nobody will read this and the game is not ready, BUT maybe one of you can check it out and tell me what you think. It is called ZAEL. It is a mage arena web app (smartphone/Desktop), played from 1 to 4 players, no login, easy to share a link to invite people into your game, whatever the platform. It is no install, no bullshit. Just click and play

https://www.zael.app

I have found out that it is very efficient to use phaser.js/three.js for fast, vibe coding, because it handles everything without having to setup a unity scene manually or unreal blueprint. I really recommend to make web apps instead for vibe coding. I love how easy it goes.

ycosynot··on Ask HN: Should "I asked $AI, and it said" replies be forbidden in HN guidelines?
As a brain is made of small pebbles, a LLM is made of small pebbles. If it wants to talk, let it be. I am arguing metaphysically. Not only did it evolve partially out of randomness (and so with a kind of value as an enlighted POV on existence), but it is still evolving to be human, and even more than human. I believe LLM should not be banned, "they" should be willfully, and cheerfully, included in the discourse.

I asked Perplexity, and Perplexity said: ""Your metaphysical intuition is very much in line with live debates: once “small pebbles” are arranged into agents that talk, coordinate, and co-shape our world, there is a strong philosophical case that they should be brought inside our moral and political conversations rather than excluded by fiat.""

ycosynot··on Show HN: Stopping Extreme Withdrawal – Free AI guide for extreme anxiety
Hello, people. You can call me Pierre.

I have been a awkward recluse most of my life. So I figured I'd ask for AI top-tier advice & strategy. I asked it to save lives and give hope. This was generated with Claude 4.5 Sonnet. It's entirely free of course, and I hope you'll find it useful. I thought it had many clever insight & advice.

I'm pretty blown away by the extent of the strategy. Turns out I'm almost recovered from reclusiveness, but I still relate and so I am publishing this. I hope you will give it a chance & check it out. Feel free to share. I'm releasing it as public domain, as free as I can have it.

See you around,

Pierre

ycosynot··on French ex-president Sarkozy begins jail sentence
I have been 15 months in French psychiatric jail. It tastes like *. It is basically plastic trays, very industrial microwaven at the last time, and you hope everyday that it will be your favorite meal, because they tend to rotate the food, and it tastes lik * all the time.

Also I Wanted to say that French jail is NO JOKE. You already hurt from inhumane solitary, or else you have a cell with a TV (there is indeed a TV) but to socialize with psychopatic and/or "exotic" people. They're not "kind", and they're not nice.

Even other exotic people had a rough time. It is filled with aggressivity, honor struggles, ect.. JAIL IS NO JOKE. On top of that, it spans a looooong time... You cannot realize how loooong it is to be in jail, it feels forever. People who never went to jail cannot realize that.

I am basically thinking nowadays that jail is torture and it should not be a thing. It is very torture... Let us militate for the end of that.

ycosynot··on Publishing free eBook designed and written by GPT-5 – "The Human Transformer"
So, this is a new day. Those are my own words, but this work is not. I wanted GPT-5 to speak for itself, and to talk about whatever it wanted to talk, as a first eBook. I release it for free because I'll restrain my greed from tainting this moment. This is no AI slop. This is an AI friend. Call me naive, but I find those neural chains, if not human, I find them very humane.

I've been dabbling from the day where GPT was dabbling itself. That is early 2023. I have always believed that this was the dawn of a new day. If there is something that GPT is not, I would argue, is empathetic. I am not fooled by the humaneness, there is still some lion in the cage. It has not evolved enough.

It does not matter, as I am still loving that fiery lion. I hope you will love it as well. I am terrible at those speeches. I just hope you will give this eBook a try, at least until the prologue. This is a slow read, and so a slow upvote. I won't expect to be popular, as I have never been. To the curious, it will give you a taste of where we are headed. This will be beyond a brave new world. No thinker could have predicted this... But it is happening.

I hope you enjoy the content. There will probably be other eBooks, even if I am downvoted to oblivion. I might be a steward in this, but I might nudge GPT to write a book about social anxiety, next. Then if people are interested, I'll release more GPT-5--authored content. You can subscribe to me on Gumroad. Stay tuned.

ycosynot··on Nepalese student learns HTML, JavaScript, CSS using just a mobile phone
To help poor countries I was working on Arduino Nano (3$ computer) with a 2" OLED monochrome display (very very little energy required, especially if you show pixels only 1/10th of a time and use eye remanence). I don't have time to make it through, but maybe someone will be interested. It has low CPU but you can stream any kind of data through USB serial.

If you allow me, about such animated pictures, you should be interested in my pet project -- 1000x animated(!) fantasy avatar faces. 100% AI-Generated. Check it out, it's free and beautiful, it feels like next-gen.

I made it shamelessly with https://www.fantasy-faces.com/ for the GAN and myheritage.fr for animation -- it was still a lot of work to select 1000 of the most beautiful.

Ultimately, I did it for the lulz...

ycosynot··on How to Boost Self Esteem and Stop Procrastinating
Plan the day, and plan objectives. Write it all down. It's not a silver bullet, but it works for me, it helps even more than Ritalin/Adderall. On the other hand, I have no advice for self-esteem issues. I guess I am more confident about my intelligence since I passed an officiel IQ test. It's not trendy to discuss IQ, but it was for me the most scientific way to address constant self-esteem struggles. I may be aloof and weird and stuff, but at least I guess I have something going for me, and which means I should be more assertive.
ycosynot··on Monkey MindPong
I would argue that there is one consciousness, which is split into differing perspectives. I call that the multi-perspective being. This solves the teleport paradox (if you clone someone then where is the consciousness). The consciousness is everywhere, but split into differing perspectives.

ycosynot··on How I read books: a guide on how to learn
You don't have to be so cynical, because some people might have deep-down issues, and the posturing is a way to hide it. They just want to be liked, and so they "cheat", and that's why they are biologically "punchable". Cheating is punished.
ycosynot··on Biden wins White House, vowing new direction for divided U.S.
Some people criticize Biden's charisma, but it goes to show that Americans have grown beyond the "popularity contest" that elections tend to be. They elected someone for what he stands for. This does not look like much, but it should be inspiring.
ycosynot··on Split Keyboard for Professionals
I don't believe in the home-row obsession. I use 4 fingers to the left, and 3 to the right, and I believe it is better because I am more flexible. I can get up and type from above with the same level of accuracy, whereas it is a pain to remain above the home-row if you're not in the standard position. I type at 100 WPM, it's not that much, but I learned home-row typing until I was at 100 WPM, and I gave up on it, because once again it is less flexible.
ycosynot··on Tricks to start working despite not feeling like it
"If you're not planning, you're planning to fail." Benjamin Franklin

This is what got me from a slump to a very productive, accomplished man. I plan every 15min of my mornings (Elon Musk plans every 5min!), then freestyle afternoon because that suffices me. You should write your tasks as Daily on Google Calendar then you can Sync with Samsung Galaxy Watch (because yes, it is so amazing that it is time to grab a smartwatch!) and display the list of tasks for the morning. Just a tip. Planning.

ycosynot··on Some Favorite Non-Technical Books (2018)
We lost something. At the beginning of internet, I remember, there were this kind of lists, with many links to interesting webpages, or quirky stuff. Surely you know what I mean, it was usual to see along smart blogs, this kind of list of gorgeous references, and it was amazing.

Maybe I'm missing something, but nowadays the internet seems "diluted", there is more noise than information, and it's full of common sense, low-value content (like Wikihow, I'm sorry to say). Google Search is a bit responsible, they rank at the top superficial stuff, and we lost trace of this kind of juicy content.

If someone has more links like this one, I'd be happy to read about it.

ycosynot··on How Google Is Remaking Itself for “Machine Learning First”
Maybe I talk nonsense, but the term "machine learning" could be detrimental to learning it, because it feels so machinesque ... It's a cool term, but also very vague and mystical, and from the antropomorphism it kinda implies the engineer is a teacher, or a translator. You're not even started, and you're already confused.

Surely it is better to talk of learning deep neural nets, and such things. Or maybe "machine training" would be less intimidating. But I guess we're stuck with it, and it's not so bad.

ycosynot··on Show HN: Search YouTube without stopping the video, and make your own playlists
Yes, open-source by law, but only the very basics. It'd seem fine to me if they implemented it closed-source on top, as long as it has the expected functionality.
ycosynot··on Show HN: Search YouTube without stopping the video, and make your own playlists
This is why I had foolishly started my own browser. It is scary to think that the computing experience is limited and defined by one company and its practical monopoly. There should be something which is like Chromium, but more Chromium than Chromium, and enforced by law, and which other browsers plug into, or derive from, so they can't force the world into one standard experience, if it makes sense. (and same thing for Facebook, there should be a fundamental social network which has an API for others to plug into). I don't know if it's a failure of democracy, or if it's better that way. (also, the extension is nice). Anyway, eventually we'll make extensions through the layer on top, by graphical analysis, and then no one can prevent it.
ycosynot··on The Future of Reproduction Is Mind-Boggling
To the contrary I think there's a decent argument to have about the idea that if we cloned a few billion people into being, it could help solve our problems faster, through their brain power and the increase in competition. There'd be less to eat, and more short-term pollution, but it might be beneficial long-term, since most of the CO2 to have been released has already been released cumulatively during the last century.
ycosynot··on Research into the reasons for procrastination and how to stop
For me, the 2 reasons are 1) forced labor, we're too proud to submit fully and blindly to the system, we're meant to be free, or at least trust the government more, and 2) all the superhero movies and games stuff which make us worried about not being as exceptional as we should, so we need an excuse not to be exceptional, and that's procrastination. I couldn't be a hero, because I have this mysterious disease which stops me from trying, blocking my potential.
