Bitcoin is a never ending drama rollercoaster but I still use it and I hope eventually some sort of solution is reached
A decentralized currency where the development, mining and discussion is controlled by less than a dozen people which is a joke
Yes one can program own username/password etc login, but it is actually alot of work making a proper one with all the edge cases (, password strenght, email validation, verification, account recovery) and so on and so on. I know because I have done it dozens of time and each time the project has slightly different requirements
Mozilla Persona was dead easy to implement on the other hand! Also alot of people did not like and complained about having to login with Google, Facebook etc yet the same people had no issues trusting Mozilla due to the goodwill they built up with firefox and their fight for privacy
edit: why downvote? is this not a valid concern for a service that is marketing privacy as its main pro?
I asked the same question of an old engineer at Kennedy Space center who was talking about the Saturn rockets to a (small) group of people (most just wanted take photos and cared little for history). He was quite blunt in his response, "We were doing great but then someone higher up decided that we won the manhood measuring contest and its better to spend public funds on bombing some poor souls in paddy fields half a world away..."
edit: never mind I see they are still around somehow (and managed to waste millions in process) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steorn http://orbo.com/

"Welcome to the online shop for Orbo technology, home of our "never die" battery technology-based products.
We're excited to move towards bringing the first of our products to market in 2016 and revolutionising the world of consumer electronics.
The battery is dead."

Oo
At least bitcoin gives options to chose...
Right now all comments about "inflation" etc are downright silly, usually form people regurgitating sill cons against bitcoin that are not a concern at this time.
But lets not have fact get in the way, downvote away.
Hashrate!= inflation btw
There is no need to send email when you can send a fax
There is no need to carry a brick with you to make calls
There is no need for plastic cards when one can use cash
And so on, just because YOU do not grasp advantages and possibilities that bitcoin has brought along, does mean the rest of us dont. I use Bitcoin daily BTW it has already improved my life in ways only rivaled by the rise of the web, mobile in last 20 years
The anger you are feeling is the screws being tightened a little tighter. Everything nowadays is regulated, controlled and monitored, we in the west are not free, especially in "the land of the free"
And some beuracrat(s) at FAA just guaranteed themselves job security for long time
Thats what happens in Ireland, corporation tax is lowish (12.5%) and theres not that many loopholes/concessions as in other EU states where companies can reduce their corporate tax to near nothing already
BUT personal taxes are a murder
Lets say you are a director of startup and the company has€100000 left after costs and taxes etc, lets say as director you want to pay yourself a salary of 100K for your hard work, you be lucky you be left with 50K after income tax, PAYE/PRSI insurance tax and "Universal Social Charge"
On the money that you have left you would have to pay for medical insurance (aint free here like UK), VAT of 23% on almost anything you buy (more for cars, less for food etc), new property and water taxes and so on
Keep in mind that Ireland gets blamed for alot of this goings on, but its just a step on path large corporations take to move money onto Carribean.
The whole Paypal model is based on its reversal+ resolution process which usually favors buyer, requires an army of support personnel and has resulted in them being one of the most hated companies in world.
The guy seeing an opportunity and possibly having some early coins declared himself to tax office as Satoshi, but maybe claimed he lost keys to majority of coins. He then proceeded to have one of his companies claim tax back for R&D of bitcoin. The whole thing probably backfired then.
a better alternative would be bitcoin paperwallets, this here relies on Venmo to play nice as well as the "payer"
We have to try EVERYTHING in order to beat climate change, up to and including moonshots like this.
Sadly this strange hatred of anything nuclear by environmentalists has done more to harm this planet and its people.
BTW 6 billion is nothing when compared to over a hundred billion that for example Germany has spent on renewables, same Germany that replacing nuclear with coal on the other hand.
Aside was just watching this documentary on BBC on tv there > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gtp51eZkwoI The vision and drive of scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs back in 19th and 20th centuries have lifted the world from literal darkness into the modern system of grids and electricity on a flick of a switch. I am sure there were many naysayers back in their day on top of all the obstacles they faced, these guys such as Edison and his team kept buggering on, and the modern world is thankful for foundations they laid.
Let the scientists and engineers at ITER do their job and instead of moaning about it keep pressure on politicians to spend money on projects like this instead of bombing people in other countries.
Aside here is an interesting article regarding this > https://www.commentarymagazine.com/articles/russia-great-for...
They do ask for ID documents and perform AML checks, but then again so do all proper bitcoin exchanges with the exception of the shady btc-e from Russia or thereabouts.
But its not like bad guys are afraid of using fake IDs (as seen in Europe this last week) which brings the obvious question as to why they would bother with all that when they can just use cash and traditional banking.
The whole article is click bait of the highest order based on fud.

If the powers to be want to hit ISIS where it hurts how about destroying their oilfields, oil refining and transport capabilities. A few armed drones can do this on the cheap remotely. Make it clear that any oil extraction, processing or transport equipment in the area controlled and sympathetic to ISIS will be destroyed and grant these scum their wish if living in the middle ages.
