yayadarsh··on Microsoft Stream
Thanks for the feedback! I have added this to our backlog via our feedback forum here: https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Stream-Ideas/Attach-powe...

yayadarsh··on The Monaco Code Editor
It sounds like you are attributing this to some sort of surreptitious attempt to "seem relevant", where really it's much simpler. Unless you are working directly on IE/Edge, there is absolutely no "top-down" direction as to which browser you must use.

Truth is, you use what browser you like. On my team (MSFT employee) this is a mixture of Chrome, FF, IE, and Edge, based on personal preference.

This is great to hear! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions adsolank at microsoft dot com

yayadarsh··on Computers are made of metal, not category theory
Even a high-level programming language has a strict grammar with no ambiguity, albeit maybe with some syntactic sugar and "higher-level" atoms. The same cannot be said about natural languages.
yayadarsh··on Invertible Bloom Lookup Tables (2011)
Yes, that is the primary use-case for a bloom filter, generally. I think parent is asking more about the added value of "invertible" bloom filters.
yayadarsh··on Maze Tree
Incredible work here! Really love this stuff.
yayadarsh··on A friend died nearly 2 years ago. I had no idea
I don't see the point of this. Isn't distant friend a subset of "friend" as a group? This seems unnecessarily cynical about the title of this post.
yayadarsh··on Beyond Meat: Fake Meat So Good It Will Freak You Out
I don't think that maximum human lifespan has increased as significantly as it seems, but rather infant mortality rates have shrunk so much that our 'average life expectancy' has increased dramatically.
yayadarsh··on Aspirin Really Is Kind of a Wonder Drug, Studies Continue to Show
The skeptic within would tend to agree with the conspiracy-type within you.

It would seem that the simplest solution be to step back and change legislation on various chemicals/compounds to be in accordance with scientific findings/changes in cultural perception. The logical question is then, what exists to prevent this? I think a careful shave with Occam's razor uncovers the possibility/probability of corporate interests being too high to ignore, rendering Hanlon's razor a little too blunt.

yayadarsh··on Show HN: Imagine a search engine that removed top million sites from its index
After a few test searches, this is surprisingly effective for things which I had resigned "un-findable" because of poor Google results. This is most apparent on non-technical things, in this case specific Jazz chord fingerings for a guitar class I am taking.

I am very interested as to what comes of this, or rather what is influenced by its implications.

yayadarsh··on PC and Device Requirements For Windows 8
This is interesting. It seems they are taking a page out of the Apple book with mandated resolutions and device. They are trying to dodge the demon of device variation that Android developers wrestle with.
yayadarsh··on Ask HN: Who is Hiring? (January 2012)
As the aforementioned intern I'd like to second this!
yayadarsh··on Hungry Academy - get paid to learn Ruby
Ah, if only this was more realistic to us full-time students out there.

Nonetheless, the concept sounds very fresh and exciting, and I hope this spawns a Summer variant for people my age!

yayadarsh··on Goosh: Google Interactive Shell
This is actually a wonderful invention. I am going to try to use this exclusively as a search engine, it seems productive.
yayadarsh··on This Is Why Your Website Is Slow
Ghostery found 14 on this page itself.
yayadarsh··on Why Siri just might work
Is this the first time you've seen a self-serving inconsistency? Apple as a company represents many things, and a keen PR team with excellent wording is one of their strengths. Apple isn't "all about HTML5" and "killing off browser plugins", but rather they are about their best interests. Nixing Flash kept the Apple-controlled AppStore the dominant gateway for applications on the device. Quicktime is another Apple technology, so it is pretty much expected that they will use it (if for nothing other than cross-promotion/marketshare)
yayadarsh··on The Google Wallet, a lifetime log of your purchases
It has everything to do with purchase history, which is the topic of the thread.
yayadarsh··on Show HN: NEW Heads-Up Grid: A Responsive Web Page Overlay Grid
No one is saying that HTML and CSS aren't with flaws. They are the industry standard, supported by all modern browsers, which changes everything. Similarly, you may prefer the syntax and philosophy of Lisp, but that doesn't change the fact that Java/C++ are far-and-wide the most popular languages used, and in many industrial applications -- industry standards.

The pro's for separating code and markup are thought to outweigh the cons, but there is nothing forcing anyone to adopt this standard. As you may or may not know, re-usability and maintainability can go a long way when working with a large webpage. If I am trying to massively overhaul my website while maintaining the same use-cases, the javascript is probably not going to change, but the HTML and CSS will, and herein lies the benefit of separation.

That being said, if for some reason you would prefer a button's behavior to be more apparent in it's markup, scripts can be used in-line with identical functionality. If your concern is linking to an external document (which is also done as a step of simplification of large projects, not obfuscation) it is totally acceptable to style an HTML page from internal <style> tags.

yayadarsh··on Google rushing out Android 4 "Ice Cream Sandwich" to counter iPhone 5
Maybe I'm missing something, but what is the point of this? Why sacrifice the public perception and stability of your project in order to duke it out with a polished release from your competitor?
yayadarsh··on Columnal: a fluid CSS grid, that scales from widescreen laptops down to phones
Sounds very interesting, and I like the site. Excited to try it out in the upcoming week and test the "responsive design" aspect on my tablet and mobile phone.
yayadarsh··on LulzSec Topples EVE Online, Minecraft, League of Legends and other Servers
Does anyone else see this as an excuse to limit Net Neutrality by various world governments? I hope these actions which are carried out for the sheer 'lulz' don't lead to more concerns with the freedom of our wonderful worldwide web.

That, is the opposite of 'teh lulz.' :|

yayadarsh··on Grooveshark makes a stand against the music industry.
Honestly, I'm surprised it's taken Apple this long to throw a similar feature packaged in with their iOS devices. My theory is that they are holding onto their iTunes business model for as long as possible before either purchasing or mimicking the streaming subscription-based style.

Google on the other hand us HOPEFULLY working on something great for their Android devices..

yayadarsh··on If people tried to pay for other services like they try to pay for programming
When firms offer price discrimination (that's what this is called formally, offering different prices to various classes of consumer) they are making more money by taking the consumer surplus that would have been made (the extra money a consumer would have paid for the good).

Think of it this way: a rich man is willing to pay up to $10.00 for the chicken breast that his family needs for dinner, but his blue-collar cousin can only afford $6.00 at the most. Had the grocery store only created one line with the price of $8.00, their revenue from these two consumers would be only the rich man's sale, 8 dollars. If, on the other hand, the store had two lines, one for $5 and one for $10, they can make 15 dollars from these two shoppers!

Hope that clears it up.
