yawaworht1978··on Something special is happening in Barcelona
Yes, I agree, I lived very near to the big cinemas, next to mc Donald's, cross the street and you're in Raval. As a man, it looks a bit dodgy, but walking there in the night felt ok. I have seen some wild things there by drugged up or drunk people which have left women paralyzed from fear looking into the ground, though. I know there's more dangerous areas, with proper drug houses etc and Raval etc benefit from high police presence as it's their tourist jewel, so to say. So for women and kids it might feel more scary, almost every children park has permanent drinkers, the smell of marijuana and the occasional heroin junkie here and there. I have observed some interesting discussions between dealers and police, while the police knows most the dealers, they can't do too much, but they do have an eye on them, so it's safer than it first appears.

Btw , I fully agree that the particular rambla de Raval Is tacky, overpriced and the food is just bad. The places on the beach are much better. Ah, now thinking about it, kinda miss the city, it has many good parts and things.

yawaworht1978··on Something special is happening in Barcelona
I have only been to Amsterdam and the airport in the Netherlands, it was a while ago, but no way did Amsterdam have a better infrastructure for bicycles 10 years ago than Barcelona has today. I could be wrong, but the main streets didn't have the nice two way lanes like in Barcelona and the red light, coffee shop district is similar to cuidad vella and Raval, both in spirit and infrastructure, both are not optimal for anything. I heard Denmark is on a high level too and maybe the Netherlands as a whole are much better. It has to be said that Barcelona is an exemption, Madrid and other cities don't even come close, apart from some few very rich pueblos on the coast. At least in Barcelona you can use the main roads to get tangentially near your desired destination and from there it's a bit less luxurious. I agree that left turning cars are very dangerous for more vulnerable vehicles. For example , to turn left , you have to get to the proper lane in time(not so easy, many people report map applications to have notorious delays in parts on the city), then check for ongoing traffic, sometimes the innermost are bicycles, then cars, then another lane plus pedestrians with no regards to red light green light rules. It's also true that the lanes are often interrupted by other rather large streets etc. But overall, it's a breeze going from one of the big parks to Barceloneta. Big negative point is in summer, it's no fun, the heat can be horrible, and if you are on a red light next to a bus, the fumes and other car emissions are in your face and the temperature feels like it jumped 10 deg Celsius within 3 seconds. To clarify, I am sure there are better small cities in that regard, I only tried to say Barcelona has the best solutions compared to other large cities. The negative point of course is, it's downright hostile to car drivers, some people enjoy driving a car(I don't ever own a car unless I live in a remote area).
yawaworht1978··on Something special is happening in Barcelona
Yes, the city has very unsafe places, IE Rival, cuidad vella. The amount of ambulance sirens and police presence speaks for itself.

It feels less safe than London, I have lived in 3 not so good boroughs in London.

yawaworht1978··on Something special is happening in Barcelona
I used to live in Barcelona, the infrastructure is definitely anti car in every aspect, it's desired to be. For such a large city, the car traffic is minimal, there are not enough parking opportunities, especially at the beach. There would be space, but the government knows better, if you have ever been in a tourist destination in Spain during peak season you will know that there is no way to accommodate all the cars. The only traffic jams you'll encounter is if an accident happened or if you go from Barcelona outwards toward the airport, when commuters go home on Friday afternoons or evening when headed to the nicer , less crowded beaches in the south. But absolutely nothing compared to London, I have lived there as well and driven a car. It's the city with the worst traffic jams you can imagine, it starts at 7am and never really ends, after 8pm it's quite calm and deserted one weekdays. But weekends, if you wanna go from the south east to the north, God help you. It's very bicycle friendly, own parts of the roads, unobstructed by cars. Taxis have a separate lane, and buses as well. The public transportation is also very good, affordable, you have buses, underground trains, and well, overground trains. And it's a nice city to walk, the old part of town, the huge parks, really nice.

A role model implementation as far reducing car traffic issues go. Many people use these electro kind skateboards(forgot name) and scooters. And many people just walk. Of course , it needs to be mentioned that Barcelona is not built like American suburb areas, it's all apartment blocks of 3-7 stories, all blocks glued together. It's tight, they even have a convention on how to dry your clothes on balconies and how not to do it. Barcelona has many other issues, the typical ones for large cities, but transport and car traffic, I haven't seen better in Europe.

yawaworht1978··on $1M bounty for details on Tether’s backing
How did you get this info?

I am inclined to apply, but what would be the the best company? Bitfinex or tether?

yawaworht1978··on CFTC Orders Tether and Bitfinex to Pay Fines Totaling $42.5M
I have 2 questions about this. Is it ever legal for a company to hold assets in a personal account of an owner/employee? Karpeles did the same, didn't he? And if it's legal, how does the bank do due diligence on the source of wealth?

The other thing is, people say Mt gox collapsed, but it recovered. True, however the recovery was very slow and many people took a large hit. I understand if the Mt gox btc are still there, most can be made whole. Now people say btc can collapse just like Mt gox, but Mt gox collapsed because it was hacked, the btc themselves have been stolen. How would btc collapse if tether is stopped being used by exchanges? The people holding tether would simply not be paid whatever cryptocurrencies they bought with tether? I understand people just use it as a gateway and hold only for few seconds, right?

yawaworht1978··on Amazon will allow many employees to work remotely indefinitely
I don't know why people say Amazon has a bad reputation as an employee. You have to consider there is a million employees and it most likely depends on department, location, job. I personally know a couple handful Amazon employees who are all most happy and treated well. Some of them have previously been at google and they say Amazon is the better employer period.

In some jurisdictions they pay clear above industry standard.

All companies have good and bad aspects, some feel better in a startup , some feel better in a corporate giant.

yawaworht1978··on I keep making things out of checkboxes
This is very impressive, especially the video with 3d effect. Can we check the repos?

Did you use libraries or did you create a library for this?

I would love to see a slider as well, maybe with similar effects like transitions in PowerPoint.

Is this all Js rendered or does it use html and css?

yawaworht1978··on For Teen Girls, Instagram Is a Cesspool
It's true that platforms and advertisers can build early brand recognition on young people, but it was always there, it used to be tv mainly, but now with mobile devices, how can this possibly be controlled or regulated?

If I was your vice emperor, I would agree btw.

yawaworht1978··on Facebook is nearing a reputational point of no return
I don't remember nor didn't use myspace, but how did that come to and end? We're there early tell tales like this one?

The collapse for Facebook would probably be very fast once a trigger point is reached, they're kind of all or nothing, they need large data amounts to have any quality to serve ads, if they have less advertisers and data, they won't be able to charge the same prides, it's would be a cascade or spiral moving pretty fast.

Of course, once it happens, fb might be replaced by something even worse, the cynic in me thinks.

yawaworht1978··on Twitch source code and customer data has reportedly been leaked

yawaworht1978··on Mozilla to put ads in Firefox address bar suggestions
But what if that idea is coming from Google? How many relevant partners does FF have?
yawaworht1978··on Twitch is hacked, and its source code leaked
Indeed , how could this happen, really curious.

So let's say someone with access to all GitHub repos gave the password to someone else, maybe then it was downloaded from another machine?

Or someone stole the credentials and downloaded from another machine?

Or someone got access to such a machine?

It's it not possible to prevent these cases?

How long does such a download take?

yawaworht1978··on How to permanently delete your Facebook account
The best options are: - never sign up in the first place - give entirely fake data, as much as possible - change data to rubbish data afterward - just never log in again, I am pretty sure dormant accounts are the worst, nothing to collect, nothing to track, no ads can be placed there in a meaningful way.

A dormant account with rubbish data is the best way to hinder their profits.

yawaworht1978··on Twitch source code and customer data has reportedly been leaked
Was the viewers data also leaked? You know, the twitch users who simply watch the streams?
yawaworht1978··on Twitch source code and customer data has reportedly been leaked
Don't open this link if you are in the middle of having a meal.

Paste it to a separate tab, then it works.

yawaworht1978··on Andrew Yang Founds the Forward Party
The was once the slogan in ex Yugoslavia, death to fascism, freedom to the people. Socialism/communism light followed. Eventually, once that failed, people started saying f##k communism, death to fascism, freedom to the people. Things never meaningfully changed, though.
yawaworht1978··on Whistleblower to Congress: Facebook products harm kids and democracy
Every single non technical person I have spoken to has not the slightest idea about the data collection or even the business model. When told about it, the concern is minimal. The only ones who got infuriated were the ones where someone else logged into their accounts. Even showed some real data from breaches, like mobile numbers, still no concern, they'd typically say "well i gave them my number". The issue is so profound, there is no easy fix here, I am afraid.

Hilariously, they do sometimes ask me "what is this?" When an add pops up or they accidentally click on one. They also ask why they get this and that email.

I have also seen highly educated people buying into misleading propaganda or even straight up conspiracy theories seen on Facebook.

The only benefit these users have is to watch other people's images and upload some themselves.

yawaworht1978··on What Happened to Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp?
How often do the apps try to reconnect? Does anyone know?
yawaworht1978··on Facebook whistleblower says she wants to fix company, not harm it
Sorry to say, this whistleblower is either not honest or not capable to see. People say it's just the news, but no, I remember from a while ago being shown multiple suicide anouncements, then a baby which strangled itself accidentally in a zoo etc and I do not even have a fb account! These i was shown by Facebook users like "hey look at this".

Are you kidding me, Zuckerberg and "whistleblower" , basically snuff kinda videos and suicide threats are being shared, posters not banned for it yet you say you are trying to get to the root of the problem, yet meanwhile, let's start the meta verse project and the ray ban glasses so everyone can be do a little espionage.

Nope, pull the other one.

yawaworht1978··on Can Boom Supersonic Succeed Where the Concorde Failed?
Can supersonic aircraft be as big as the 747 etc jumbos without much worse energy requirements?

Or does the fuel consumption rise by a factor?

I can see the Concorde had almost mach2 as top speed?

Is there another Sonic boom at mach2,3 etc?

Unless it's a fuel efficient mach3, there's not much point to it, most flying time improvements should be done on checking in and boarding, the flight itself for flights less than 2 hours in duration can't be optimized , a supersonic plane wouldn't even accelerate to top speed before it has to slow down on short flights like paris-london.

yawaworht1978··on As a whistleblower prepares to speak out, what can be done to rein in Facebook?
This doesn't sound very promising. "Give users more control over their data" < what does this even mean.

It sounds more like, look we give users more control over data, but please let us do the meta verse project.

From what I see there, it will get even worse. Fb collects data and sells ads based on that data, meanwhile the users are undergoing gamification aka incentivized to spend as much time as possible on the platform.

The best governance would be if people simply stopped using it, but people do want to share and like, they think it adds value to the life.

yawaworht1978··on YouTube Bans Ron Paul Institute
So Ron Paul learned that YouTube is not radically libertarian.

I see appeal was received, funny thing he's saying out of nowhere, similar thing happened on Facebook.

yawaworht1978··on YouTube is banning anti-vaccine activists and blocking all anti-vaccine content
Apologies, I should have been clearer, if something is ambiguous and a government acts dodgy, I don't dismiss it. Buy things like no planes on 911, flat earth, chakras , reptile overlords, magic and so forth, I am default sceptical.
yawaworht1978··on YouTube is banning anti-vaccine activists and blocking all anti-vaccine content
With the traffic and gravity that YouTube etc have, they're almost as powerful news broadcasting tools as the classic news media.

True, they're a private company and liable for some things, but they all try to squeeze out every last cent before a government intervention.

Banning content like crypto, anti vax, gambling etc is understandable, but all the people without a voice will think they are silenced because they know the truth.

If we as society accept that, we should not claim to be any better than china, Russia, Cuba, it's just a slightly different approach, the end result is the same, undesired content is deplatformed.

By the way, I am a rationalist and never believe conspiracy theories, but I do get a good laugh out of them at times and how the people use counter arguments helps me to think in more perspectives.

yawaworht1978··on Elizabeth Holmes urged employees to hide Theranos’ lab equipment from inspectors
Tesla anticipated this, though, such laws don't get passed fast.

They don't have the software, the core of the product.

And the fsd beta testers had to sign NDAs.

yawaworht1978··on Almost All of Facebook’s Top Christian Pages in 2019 Run by Foreign Troll Farms
Well, yes, platforms will be trolled. Facebook and co don't care who submitted the content or the truth value, the revenue is made elsewhere.

Facebook is full of personal opinions and misleading articles, it will never qualify as journalism, it's wide open to such abuse.

yawaworht1978··on Former U.S. officials describe details of the CIA’s proposals to abduct Assange
I knew some dodgy things about that guy, but you seem to have more information, care to share? I would be most interested to read it.
yawaworht1978··on Everyone Wants to Be an Influencer
When I was a teenager, and mind you, that wasn't too long ago, the equivalents of today's influencers tried to sign up for modelling agencies, or dreamt to be in movies or become sports stars. In general, fame and money and what appears to be a sweet and easy lifestyle. Of course these sort of people have always advertised products, but at least they were.true models, real actors and skilled in sports. This has been digitalized now, now every nobody can try to be an influencer, it's a bit of all the above, just digital. Of course, it's oversaturated, most of them make nothing.
yawaworht1978··on San Francisco raises Tesla 'self-driving' safety concerns as public test nears
There is always the argument of Tesla being safer than drunk, intoxicated drivers. First, I would not be too sure about that, but I would rather the governments implement a DUI check as well as some sort of alertness test before an engine can be started than trust the current fsd software. Put speed limiters as per the given location and the DUI check in all cars , then let's compare the numbers again.

And how can a Tesla save any driver when any driver is supposed to be in full control of the vehicle at any given time? If a driver needs Tesla as a saviour, then he has no business being behind the steering wheel.
