yatsyk··on Under the hood of Google Maps 5.0 for Android
Article says that cells sent to device prerendered it doesn't say ALL cells prerendered.
yatsyk··on US Airforce builds supercomputer out of 1,760 PlayStation 3
1,760 PS3s 50,000 times faster then average consumer laptop. Even adding PS3 GPU power this statement looks like exaggeration.
yatsyk··on Thoughts and Ideas about RubyDrop, An Open-Source Alternative to Dropbox
Git doesn’t implement any way to watch the repository and emit events when changes occur.

What wrong with hooks[1]?

yatsyk··on RubyDrop - A Ruby-based Dropbox clone that uses Git as a backend
May be it's too bold to call this project as Dropbox clone (is there native client for major OSes?)

But there is a market for open source filesharing application for sure.

yatsyk··on Simple and fast file sharing with ge.tt
Very convenient service. Just works!

Curious about business model. I'm sure that services like rapidshare could be profitable (bad interface, worsen service for free users etc), but it not so clear how to get profitable such service with so strait forward interface.

Other file-sharing service with simple interface that I've tried to use was filesavr.com but after some time it became very unstable.

yatsyk··on Simple mobile-friendly online calculator in Javascript
Similar named http://www.calc5.com/ calculator. But could do much more
yatsyk··on Why blurring sensitive information is a bad idea
Usually it's easier to extract exact numbers from blured image.

yatsyk··on Ask HN: Any web startups using Java?
ColdFusion is not associated with fun development, may be I'm wrong, but for me it is associated with plenty of config xmls and other enterpricy stuff.
yatsyk··on Ask HN: Any web startups using Java?
It would be nice if this framework get more traction
yatsyk··on Ask HN: Any web startups using Java?
I believe that Veera means java as a language but not jvm as a platform because a lot of startups use jruby and closure for their applications.
yatsyk··on Ask HN: Any web startups using Java?
I believe that one of the reason is lack of good web-applications framework for quick development. There is nothing like django or rails, so if you need to have non-trivial application created in minimum time java is not the best platform. In case when your team consists of plenty different skill level developers java is much safer platform. Performance of the application and hosting is not a problem. Hosting of java application usually is much easier than everything else and performance of jvm very good comparing to other platforms.
yatsyk··on Image hosting that doesn't suck - just drag and drop
Correct me if I'm wrong but it's impossible to cover S3 costs with ads displayed near pictures. According to FAQ you are going to leave picture unlimited time (and paying for space in S3) even if no one is visiting page with picture.
yatsyk··on Git as a NoSQL datastore
I also thought about similar project. Git based active model has some drawbacks and not for every project for sure. It's not so good if there are many users making a lot of changes to data (like facebook). But it's very interesting for applications when few users make changes on site and site looks like static for rest of visitors (applications like any CMS). And we are getting a lot of cool git features for free.
yatsyk··on Demo: Pure CSS GUI icons, no images (experimental).
For me main plus is easy way to change icon properties such as color with css or js. Bad browser support is main disadvantage for sure.
yatsyk··on The One Thousand Hour Rule
Gladwell mentions people that accomplished outstanding results after spending 10k hours. But it is not correct way to show that theory is correct. To support his claim he need to show that most people that accomplished outstanding results after 10k hours of work. But it is not true. There are people that accomplished good results after 100 hours, 1000 hours and 10000 hours for sure.
yatsyk··on The One Thousand Hour Rule
So the rule now is "you need at least 1khours to make customer development"? is it impossible to perform "customer development" in less then 1khours? I've not finished reading Steve's book but I don't remember anything about this limit.
yatsyk··on The One Thousand Hour Rule
Do I need to provide example when 1 hour of hard work leads to meaningful returns and 10000 hours leads to nothing to show that this theory incorrect or it is obvious?
yatsyk··on 100 Naked Citizens: 100 Leaked Body Scans

yatsyk··on Reporting a bug on a fragile analysis
I believe that we need as DOM+js as pure js benchmarks.
yatsyk··on How To Mass Export All Of Your Facebook Friends’ Private Email Addresses

yatsyk··on Windows Phone 7 now on sale in the US
Thank you for article. Acid3 is not so good CSS test but we don't have better mainstream css test anyway.
yatsyk··on Windows Phone 7 now on sale in the US
Sure it is possible theoretically but not practically. If you want alternative browser for WP7 you need to create engine from scratch. You could not create browser that can compete with current 4 engines for one or two years. Quite possibly that we've never see new independent browser engine.
yatsyk··on Windows Phone 7 now on sale in the US
Is there any better way to measure css support in modern browsers?
yatsyk··on Windows Phone 7 now on sale in the US
It would be the best for consumers and developers. Passing AcidTest + html5 support would be great.
yatsyk··on Windows Phone 7 now on sale in the US
Silverlight is only option for WP7 development now so no alternative browser in near future.
yatsyk··on Windows Phone 7 now on sale in the US
WP7 is the only modern mobile platform with bad html5 and even html and css support. All other mobile platforms use WebKit based browsers.
