I just tried to send a message from Facebook to an actual email address that is hosted by Google. Guess what happened? The email from my Facebook account ended up in the spam folder in my gmail! :-) Now that's interesting on two accounts. First I didn't even know I could send an email from Facebook messages. Second, Google treated it as spam.
Ours is a B2B product for Oracle PL/SQL developers. It is a niche that does not fit the demographics of killerstartups. So the conversion rate wasn't all that great but it helps to get the word out. We had about 250 visits in the first days of our web site being up which is not bad by our measures.
Have you tried killerstartups.com? For about a hundred bucks you can get a few thousand pageviews. I used their service and was pretty happy. There are also other similar sites. They are not as effective but each would bring a few new subscribers.
I totally agree. Google+ is trying too many things at once and attempts to be Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Blogger, Reader all at the same time. Maybe some things are never meant to mix like minced meat and tuna.
I understand your concern. But this is not how stories work in general. There is always the risk of wasting time when you read a little story, watch a movie etc...I apologize if the story wasn't worth your while. I tried my best to put it as elegantly as I can.
That's a rather nostalgic way of looking at life. :-). You are right it is nice in some aspects. However there are disadvantages. The biggest one is that you feel out of place and lonely. The rules of social engagement change. For example, my father is not allowed to smoke in restaurant anymore which he thinks is an abomination.
I mentioned this in a comment above too but I feel like it can be used to design UI (like dragging and dropping components with gestures). Are there any apps that take a crack at this?
Excellent comment/question. I thought about going into the details of the refusal in the post but it was making the piece way too long. Also the reasons deteriorated the post from its original purpose.
Let me try an analogy here. I hope I do not miss the point because of cultural differences: I think he comes from a time where using typewriters at an office was perceived as the job of a female secretary. :-). A computer looks much like a typewriter from an outsider perceptive (a keyboard and monitor to look at instead of paper).
I am sorry that this is how it is perceived. That was not my intention at all. A title is meant to be catchy. I made the comparison to Gates and the rest because even though they all changed my life, they did not touch me at a personal level like Jobs. This is all. Flame war was not my intention and I don't think the comments played out that way.
The point I tried to make is that Steve Jobs touched people lives in a way no other can, sometimes at a very personal level and his only instrument was technology. Previously, this privilege used to belong to writers, poets, politicians.
Indeed. He not only envision thinks but executes incredibly well. Microsoft's attempts to create tablet computers in the pre-iPad world look pretty embarrassing from where we are today.
It is impossible to meet Matija and not be impressed by his passion about his work. He captivated the entire audience in Seedcamp Ljubljana and was the favorite of pretty much everyone. I was personally very surprised that Farmeron did not get an investment at that time. As it turns out, Seedcamp had bigger plans for Farmeron. It got invited to Seedcamp London, similarly rocked the stage. Farmeron is now part of the Seedcamp family and very very deservedly so.
As a commentator in the article's comment system mentioned, tablets are amazing to consume content. Much much better than a laptop. So if all you do is look at stuff without contributing more than 10 words a day (typical Facebook user), which what like 99% of the world's population does, iPad is an order of magnitude better than a laptop. Both objectively and subjectively. Objectively, it has much better battery life, is easier to use, easier to carry around because it is lighter, more affordable etc...etc...Subjectively, it is more fun to use, cooler to own and more pleasant to look at. As subjective as these are, it seems to be shared by the overwhelming majority of the economically relevant population. If you visit an Apple store, you will see so many people inside buying iPads, you would think that they are giving it away for free.
