yakattak··on Search engines alternatives now that Google isn't Google anymore
I’ve been using Kagi for over a year (maybe two?) and it’s been tremendous. I can’t recommend it enough.
yakattak··on Don't just paste the AI at me
2 is far worse. Asking a question that can be answered by AI can also spark a good conversation. That's not bad at all.
yakattak··on Don't just paste the AI at me
The wording is a bit rude but the message is still important.
yakattak··on A Wayland Compositor in Minecraft
I can't wait to have windowing bugs and UI issues but in Minecraft!

Jokes aside, I've grown to love "XYZ in Minecraft". It's like a newer (still 2011 was a long time ago!) version of "Doom on XYZ".

yakattak··on Google Declaring War on the Web
Gamers don’t like AI.[1][2] I actually think indie studios that don’t use AI will do better than ones that do.

yakattak··on Google Declaring War on the Web
That's assuming that the only market is stuff people are hanging up. The games industry, one that already takes advantage of its workers, is going to love this to the detriment of really passionate artists who love their craft and industry.
yakattak··on Show HN: Number Gacha, a gacha game distilled to its essence
This is so silly, but I’m really enjoying it lol. If you wanted to add some extra juice, haptic feedback on the rolls would be super cool!
yakattak··on I don't think AI will make your processes go faster
Sadly I think you’re right. I even shy away from sharing these types of posts at work because it feels like anything that doesn’t mesh with the status quo isn’t received well.
yakattak··on The Future of Obsidian Plugins
That title gave me a heart attack.
yakattak··on I'm going back to writing code by hand
This is kind of how I feel I think. Putting pen to paper for me is hard.
yakattak··on I'm going back to writing code by hand
I want to preface this with that I am all for agentic engineering.

I am so tired of hearing about this false equivalency. Compilers are deterministic, their outputs are well understood and they’re transparent.

LLMs are not.

yakattak··on Vibe coding and agentic engineering are getting closer than I'd like
Maybe. But it depends on the metric. It seems like orgs are focused on PR count and token usage. Issues caused by poor code are often lagging indicators so it’s asymmetrical in that aspect.

Write lots of code now and statistically look great, while the impact won’t be felt for a much larger range of time.

With the job search and whatnot then yeah, caring becomes a lot more important. That’s true.

yakattak··on Vibe coding and agentic engineering are getting closer than I'd like
Yeah but you care which is my exact point.
yakattak··on Vibe coding and agentic engineering are getting closer than I'd like
Defeat in what aspect?
yakattak··on Vibe coding and agentic engineering are getting closer than I'd like
The only people who are going to put in the time, are people who care enough to. The problem is you have people who didn’t care before who were equipped with a garden hose. Now that they have a fully pressurized fire hose they can make more of a mess faster.
yakattak··on Amazon rolls out AI hiring software to automate job interviews
I guess for a seasonal job, where maybe you don’t care as much about the human interaction aspects of the job I’d be okay with this.

If I ever got an AI interviewer at a company I was interested in working for long term, it would be dead on arrival. Interviewing is a two way street. Candidates glean info about their possible teammates and work experience from the interviewer, just like the interviewer gets a read on the candidate.

Also if I am having someone join my team, I’d want to get to know them first. I’m sure the goal isn’t to have this replace every interview panel but it feels icky to me outside of a seasonal job.

yakattak··on An update on GitHub availability
To die. I’m sure that’s nothing new for GitHub, but now it can happen at scale.
yakattak··on Incident with multple GitHub services
I moved my forge to my home, outside of a little stress getting all the containers wrangled it was pretty effortless to setup Forgejo.

I do need a good backup solution though, that’s one thing I’m missing.

yakattak··on Claude Opus 4.7
There’s one that’s like “Considering 17 theories” that had me wondering what those 17 things would be, I wanted to see them! Turns out it’s just a static message. Very confusing.
yakattak··on AI-assisted cognition endangers human development?
They do, though I imagine just having “someone” reading it to you with intonation and whatnot is nice. I don’t know though.
yakattak··on AI-assisted cognition endangers human development?
Sounds great for people who are seeing impaired.
yakattak··on AI Job Loss Tracker
The “explicit” tag on some of these should really be “self reported”. It seems like most companies these days mismanage themselves into layoffs and spin it as AI gains to appease shareholders instead.
yakattak··on Sonnet 4.6 Elevated Rate of Errors
They’re asking for $100+/mo for the plans that are actually usable at scale. If I’m paying that much I have very high expectations.

There’s also the fact that they’re known for dogfooding heavily, I imagine that contributes to it a lot.

yakattak··on The cult of vibe coding is dogfooding run amok
Honestly for such a powerful tool, it’s pretty damn janky. Permissions don’t always work, hitting escape doesn’t always register correctly, the formatting breaks on its own to name a few of the issues i’ve had. It’s popular and successful but it’s got lots of thorns
yakattak··on Book review: There Is No Antimemetics Division
Crazy timing. My copy of this is being delivered today from the local bookshop. Great review.
yakattak··on A Claude Code skill that makes Claude talk like a caveman, cutting token use
I was wondering just yesterday if a model of “why waste time say lot word when few word do trick” would be easier on the tokens. I’ll have to give this a try lol
yakattak··on Slop is not necessarily the future
> No one has ever made a purchasing decision based on how good your code is.

If you have buggy software, people don’t use it if there are alternatives. They don’t care about the code but hard to maintain, buggy code will eventually translate to users trying other products.

yakattak··on VR Is Not Dead
This has been the sentiment for nearly a decade now.
yakattak··on Epic Games to cut more than 1k jobs as Fortnite usage falls
Steam works on the top 2 most played games on Steam right now.
yakattak··on AI didn't simplify software engineering: It just made bad engineering easier
Anecdotally I have not seen consistency in quality at all.
