I think the voting analogy is good, but I take a different lesson from it. Not that voting is pointless. Individual actions matter a great deal in their cumulative effect.
These are mostly regular people trying to earn a living making high quality content. I’m not seeing how you can begrudge them the few seconds of skippable ad copy.

This sounds cool to me. Certainly more than all the ad tech and blockchain companies out there. A job here could mean revolutionizing logistics with AI, slashing greenhouse gas emissions, this stuff is core to our economy and modern life.
Same reason Jack Ma went (extremely) conspicuously missing last fall.

But the vast majority of folks aren’t going to get into a flame war over diner while staring into someone’s face. They might say crude things but they’ll probably also learn something.

It doesn’t make sense to ask them to try to wrestle with that kind of poverty and also shoulder the same burden as countries using hundreds of times more energy.
Now that one of the poor upstream states wants to use the water passing through their backyard to tackle these issues, the most important issue is who needs a given resource more?

Yeah the polygraph one seem anachronistic, but if people still use them I appreciate the state trying to make sure the practitioners aren't more snake oil-y than the field at large.
And it's not like you can get 50s all year and get a few 80s and average it out. It takes a lot of really sustained effort to come back from that. Most kids won't. But at least it's mathematically possible for more of the year.
