y-curious··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (October 2026)
Sounds like my dream
y-curious··on America.gov
So it’s a domain issue? I don’t think you’re proving much. Mexico can start calling itself America too, but we know how that will go
y-curious··on Returning from vacation? The government can search your phone without a warrant
There is no recovering from this stat drop to the person you’re responding to. Well done. 45k pre trump is surprisingly high
y-curious··on America.gov
Why does it matter to you what America calls itself? Serious, good faith question. India tried to change its name to Bharat, everyone still calls it India.
y-curious··on Kids turned low-traffic NPR Spotify comments into a secret group chat
I went on Spotify to check out these playlists. I very quickly found that they have “corn” playlists that abuse the fact that you can upload videos for podcasts. A few are a screen recording of a windows Home Screen with a tiny video player in the corner playing adult videos. I had a laugh, nature always erm finds a way
y-curious··on Parley: Federated, decentralised chat that speaks plain IRC
Actually it’s a footgun gate
y-curious··on How to keep enjoying programming in a world of LLMs
Lowering the barrier to proof of concepts for personal projects is a beautiful thing. I don’t love AI but I’m 100% playing the cards I’m dealt.
y-curious··on Show HN: Reladraw – A diagram language where you decide where to place things
Agreed. Next diagram I make I’m taking a photo of a whiteboard and letting AI figure out relative positioning
y-curious··on Two-tier encryption in the UK
Well in the article they explicitly said they can’t turn off ADP by design, so no luck. But I’m all for making the politicians suffer the consequences of their own decisions.
y-curious··on AI Has No Wisdom and Neither Will You
But then what will I do for work? :(
y-curious··on Bill to Ban Private Equity from Owning Medical Practices
Key word is “recently”: seems like every law from states outside of CA were enacted in 2026. It seems too early to tell if they’re successful
y-curious··on Disney+ changes subscriber agreement to allow ads on every plan
I have, uh, heard that running a seedbox and dealing with the various -arr annoyances is very easy now that you can have Claude code SSH into the seedbox.
y-curious··on Brood War Bench
I’m a little bummed it did have map hack on. Would love to see this play “legit”. It really reminds me of my pastime, chess. When you play bots, if you don’t mess up early, it can often feel like you’re winning in the early game even though you’re just hanging yourself slowly with the rope it’s giving you.
y-curious··on Microsoft exec called AI scraping 'the largest theft of labor in human history'
Yeah gulags and other forced work camps also come to mind. But I guess this is a larger scale in terms of man hours
y-curious··on How not to solve Jane Street's ASIC puzzle. Kinda
“No, I never looked anything up” Ok Claude
y-curious··on Show HN: A chess analyzer that runs in the browser
One suggestion, can you not pull the annotated game from lichess using their stockfish? It might save you a lot of time and double work
y-curious··on The Nature of Dance
I’ve always felt so awkward and uncomfortable the whole time in these situations. It’s a huge shame because I’m very social orally :/
y-curious··on The Nature of Dance
Why are there less leaders generally? That is not intuitive to me since it feels like men generally want to fill that role in any context. Are there just less male dancers?
y-curious··on Fable 5.1 Solves the Cyphral Distich, a 370-year-old cipher
Yes, unfortunately. I have met people that love AI videos (my in-laws being the closest to my bubble) and defend them as enjoying creativity.

Many people with niche and nostalgic tastes loved that music AI that got sued to oblivion recently.

For the record, I revile both as well. But for every person eating salad, there’s someone subsisting on McDonalds.

y-curious··on How An AI math breakthrough ignited a controversy
P=NP is for when both AI shops decide they want to go bankrupt LOL
y-curious··on How An AI math breakthrough ignited a controversy
I don’t know because I use Anthropic, but I would eat my hat if this was on by default.
y-curious··on Jellyfin 12.0
Understood, so you have a virtual “home lock” on your phone that is actually a media unlock or whatever. Clever :) I also didn’t know HASS = home assistant
y-curious··on Splash-free urinals (2025)
Sorry, they use A and B as controls. They are not good at preventing splash
y-curious··on Jellyfin 12.0
Hello Mantis. Question: what do you do with the books? Is there kindle integration somehow?
y-curious··on Jellyfin 12.0
What do you mean by door lock, where does the code show up?
y-curious··on Jellyfin 12.0
For people that don’t know, Infuse lets you use Jellyfin on Apple TV and it’s very helpful for day purpose
y-curious··on Splash-free urinals (2025)
Direct link to the designs (c and d, with d being practical). Great paper honestly.

y-curious··on IBM Quantum Nighthawk R2
I don’t understand who the target audience of these ads is. For most people, including myself, this is like seeing an ad for “New and Improved Time Machine! (Untested)” or “Magic Beans - Indica”.
y-curious··on Cloud in a Bottle: making self-hosting accessible to everyone
If this is a spam campaign, it’s not a very effective one. I think you’d do well to apply Hanlon’s Razor here
y-curious··on Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1
Then it’s not a benchmark. I think his thesis is solid: if neither pelicans nor bicycles stick out, it follows that there isn’t special attention being given to them by the labs
