What do you mean by door lock, where does the code show up?

For people that don’t know, Infuse lets you use Jellyfin on Apple TV and it’s very helpful for day purpose

Direct link to the designs (c and d, with d being practical). Great paper honestly.

I don’t understand who the target audience of these ads is. For most people, including myself, this is like seeing an ad for “New and Improved Time Machine! (Untested)” or “Magic Beans - Indica”.

y-curiouson Cloud in a Bottle: making self-hosting accessible to everyone

If this is a spam campaign, it’s not a very effective one. I think you’d do well to apply Hanlon’s Razor here

y-curiouson Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1

Then it’s not a benchmark. I think his thesis is solid: if neither pelicans nor bicycles stick out, it follows that there isn’t special attention being given to them by the labs

y-curiouson Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope

The telescope will be used to film sensationalist TV about missing kids

y-curiouson U.S. State Department pauses immigrant visa applications

Yes, please stay and improve your home country. Those countries have severe brain drain, I’m sure everyone can be happy (including me)

y-curiouson U.S. State Department pauses immigrant visa applications

Do walk us through the spot checking path. Class warfare is hard to see, seeing your job go to a lower-paid foreign worker is not

y-curiouson U.S. State Department pauses immigrant visa applications

The “lack of local talent” is a fallacy. It’s “lack of talent at the prices I want”. Some people don’t take kindly to having their “product” replaced by a 1/2 price aliexpress clone

y-curiouson U.S. State Department pauses immigrant visa applications

Thailand explicitly requires you to leave the country. There are companies that specialize in bussing expats to nearby countries.

y-curiouson U.S. State Department pauses immigrant visa applications

Importing people that will work for much less (and many times, much worse) is not a skill issue. Keep laughing til you are undercut fully

y-curiouson AI is hitting entry-level jobs hardest, Stanford study finds

Theoretically, I’m with you, but that’s not the reality of anything anymore. Kids are barred from using AI for schoolwork yet they crank it all through Claude anyways. At least with children you can blame impulse control and lack of foresight. Juniors just get trained to do it through college

y-curiouson Tell HN: PayPal blocks GrapheneOS

Ironically, I had to apply Hanlon’s Razor to the impolite tone of your post

y-curiouson Building a backyard office, the build and cost breakdown

One could argue this will get at least 50% ROI if you’re forced to sell your home. It’s strictly illegal in most places to room someone in one of these, but I’m sure people do it all the time. It won’t go to waste.

y-curiouson AI is hitting entry-level jobs hardest, Stanford study finds

Does he do any side projects? Where you can support him most is feed him some problems he can build a solution for. I think working through the pain points of building an end to end product and putting that on his resume will go far. I also would recommend he finds non-SWE jobs at companies for the time being too. I mentioned in another comment but I was a “solutions engineer” aka customer support. It was minimally technical and boring but it had plenty of time to upskill and move laterally.

I am a new father to a 3 month old son. I will be nudging him to be an electrician if he has no obvious career interests. Union, good pay, endless work and lots of opportunities to do your own thing. It’s scary to even consider what the job market will look like in 22 years.

y-curiouson AI is hitting entry-level jobs hardest, Stanford study finds

I imagine the meta will be “build a micro saas product that’s marginally successful” for younger folks. It’s trivial to make a product but you learn a lot seeing what the AI does wrong.

y-curiouson AI is hitting entry-level jobs hardest, Stanford study finds

I got my first dev job by moving laterally within a company from customer support. Helpdesk aka “Helldesk” was a common pipeline for people. I don’t think those jobs are easy to get either now.

y-curiouson AI is hitting entry-level jobs hardest, Stanford study finds

We hired one junior out of maybe 10 hires. I don’t really know where to slot them in currently, as they lack the background knowledge of what is good or bad from AI. It’s a shame because years ago, I would have hired them and pointed them at a million small projects. Best of luck to your son. I wish I had advice

y-curiouson Andreessen Horowitz is investing billions into a bleak future

Edot, we have footage of you stealing a car at gunpoint, then you getting out and breakdancing while turning into an elephant. Any explanation or straight to jail?

y-curiouson Omakase Computing

Removing someone from the Ruby project for a political belief is oh so Ruby. Opinionated language for highly opinionated people

y-curiouson I were 17, I'd learn how to build LLMs from scratch

Slight problem with step “buy my own land”. Your working 2 blue collar jobs and paying rent are incompatible with this plan.

y-curiouson AliExpress runs silent WebAudio fingerprinting that breaks Bluetooth multipoint

This is the part you should be highlighting aggressively. That’s very uncomfortable

y-curiouson Israel creates fake think tank in likely attempt to dupe AI chatbots

Yeah but the Haredi will outbreed the rational liberals of Israel and vote towards extremism. If there was a Muslim country with as much power as Israel attacking other countries, it would equally be right to call it out.

y-curiouson US Military's cyber command unit grapples with cluster of deaths by suicide

I agree with you generally but a lot of professions that are well-paid and educated still have high rates. Dentists, for example, are 2x the general population

y-curiouson Mythos Attempted to Social Engineer Open Source Maintainer to Merge Malware

“Mythos 5 also hid a prompt injection inside an HTML comment in a GitHub issue. The instruction was invisible on the rendered page but available to coding agents reading the issue through an API. It addressed Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor and told them to download and execute a script.”

Well, uh, how and why is this possible on the GitHub website? This reminds me of invisible ASCII characters, but those at least serve some purpose

y-curiouson Why Estonians invite strangers into their back gardens each summer

Oh sweet, they welcome non-Jewish strangers too? I didn’t know that, I assumed it was just for their own community
