xuhu··on Named parameters in C
Doesn't work in MSVC though.
xuhu··on Quebec jailbreak: escape by helicopter was 'well-planned'
Inspiring stuff.
xuhu··on Happy new year and goodbye bzip2
Why ditch bzip2 and not gzip ? It was clearly for storage space.
xuhu··on Outrageous HSBC Settlement Proves the Drug War is a Joke
Here you go:

"HSBC Bank USA knowingly set the thresholds in CAMP so that wire transfers by customers located in countries categorized as standard or medium risk, including foreign financial institutions with correspondent accounts, would not be subject to automated monitoring unless the customers were otherwise classified as high risk."

xuhu··on Anti-ageing compound set for human trials after turning clock back for mice
There were 2.5M deaths in US in 2010: http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/deaths.htm

If you take other leading causes out (accidents 120k, diabetes 70k, influenza 50k, suicide 40k), it still leaves about 2M deaths related to ageing: heart, cancer, chronic respiratory, stroke, alzheimers.

xuhu··on The First Car You Can Build Yourself in an Hour [video]
You could say the same thing about the Tesla Roadster.
xuhu··on Modern Minimalism
paging Moxie Marlinspike ... http://www.thoughtcrime.org/blog/the-worst
xuhu··on Login And Pay With Amazon – Yesterday’s launch will change the face of retail
Customer service might make the differente, since Google hasn't got any.
xuhu··on This Bird Can Stay in Flight for Six Months Straight
> Aerodynamically, flight is vastly less efficient at smaller scales because the air molecules remain the same size.

What also counts is wing size relative to air swirls/bubbles/thermals ... turbulence in general.

xuhu··on Lavabit founder turned over the private SSL keys as an 11 page printout
offtopic: scrolling through the printout by dragging the scrollbar handle slowly (~3 pages per sec) crashes the chrome renderer (tried on 2 win7-32 boxes)
xuhu··on Hermit: a font for programmers, by a programmer
Please make the characters taller (h/w ratio), they seem a little fat.

Otherwise I like how it looks overall.

xuhu··on Ifs and &&s and Plan 9's Source Code
But it's still not the equivalent of: if (one && two && three && soon) {stuff} else {stuff} which I assume the GP meant.
xuhu··on Unreal JavaScript
Very late reply, but I tried win7 x64 and x86 with 4GB. Taskmgr shows the ram usage jump from 900MB to 2.5GB after a fresh reboot.

I tried downloading the entire page (html, css,js) and increasing TOTAL_MEMORY (et al) in the js, but with the same result.

Nightly-23 from 07 May (firefox-20.1, same result). It did work on ubuntu-amd64 though.

xuhu··on Unreal JavaScript
I could start it in nightly on linux but with low framerate. On windows I see this in the console (and it stops at "preparing javascript"):

[15:16:42.533] TypeError: asm.js type error: Internal codegen failure (probably out of memory) @ http://www.unrealengine.com/html5/UDKGame-Browser-Shipping.js:9649
    [15:16:50.798] out of memory
xuhu··on What Lua scripting means for Wikimedia and open source
Good point (that js could be evaluated on client side as well). Although someone else said the template scripts need access to the database, and Lua can run in the browser as well (via emscripten for instance).
xuhu··on Arrogant Anti-virus Doesn't Appreciate Your Choices
Does anyone have the text ? The site seems down.
xuhu··on The Case for a True Mac Pro Successor
HFS+. Searching for 'git osx performance' turns up these:

xuhu··on How Search Works
Since forever, Chrome has been doing scroll at less fps than Firefox, where I can read comfortably while scrolling.
xuhu··on Why cyclists enrage car drivers
That cyclist means one more free parking spot for you, and one less source of pollution though.
xuhu··on HTML5/WebGL source port of Quake
I still don't understand his logic for this: Element fullscreen is not going to be added because there's already browser-wide F11 fullscreen.

If pointer-lock only works in element-fullscreen in Firefox (on which he develops) then what other choice is there ? Nobody plays shooters with the keyboard since wolf3d, and the BananaBread demo does pointer-lock precisely via element-fullscreen.

xuhu··on Linux Foundation Secure Boot System Released
Meanwhile Ubuntu's Wubi-based installer is rendered useless since the Windows 8 bootloader won't load it (nor will it load anything except Windows apparently if SecureBoot is enabled).
xuhu··on Samba 4.0 released
I counted 21 references to "Active Directory" in the release announcement (out of 26 paragraphs). Judging from this, AD may actually be a primary target use.
xuhu··on Cute riddle: Four kids holding one toy balloon
The balloon will go in unstable equillibrium in this case.
xuhu··on Paypal policy update: No class-action suits
So where is the webpage that takes your Name, Address, paypal Email, and sends the opt-out letter for you, for $0.99 ?
xuhu··on Russian team develops x86 emulator on ARM
It wouldn't be a shock if the Russians' code was based on QEMU.
xuhu··on Will Bitdefender Be Romania's First Tech IPO?
> I would love if Romania would start to be known for something other than antivirus solutions.

Ubervu and Epayment, off the top of my head.

xuhu··on GRUB 2.00 released
Would be cool to have this signed by a trusted-boot key that ends up in all consumer x86 BIOSes, since it will probably be used by a lot of distributions.
xuhu··on Select2 - A better way to make select boxes (with jQuery)
Thousands of items arguably don't belong in a combobox, they should probably be split by letter, country, prefix, etc.
xuhu··on Firefox 7 Live: Download Here
I've had these as well. Firefox 6 on win7-32, with latest Adblock-Plus, Firebug(usually disabled), Flashblock, Greasemonkey, Noscript(in allow-everything mode), Foxit plugin, latest Flash, no antivirus, no other media plugins.
xuhu··on "When I design software, I really try hard to make it simple."
High-traffic websites ? He said quarter-million requests a day, so 3 requests per second (and inetd forks a process per connection, not per HTTP request).
