Though annoying for the user, it's the best way to engage the user. Bring back to the website and boost up hits, opportunities to cross-sell, upgrades, or drive retention. Besides sending the message itself in the notification adds a bit of technical complexity.
I do C# on my day job and I did take a stab a learning xamarin's android sdk but to be honest after spending 3 days learning it, poking around their samples, I felt like there was still a lot to learn. I ended up going the java route simply because there is more support for it from the community, many many open source controls/libs to begin with and stays up to date with Android releases.
"Status: Someone has received information that this person is alive"
- I wish they reword it to something less scary. like, "Status: Someone has received information that this person is fine"
It always bothered me to know that there is no other solution to DDos attacks other than shutting down the systems and wait till it gets back to normal load.
I see this happen more and more that we talk to our potential customers about the idea we've been brewing and they say 'heck yeah I would totally use it', later only to find no interest in it. One thing I learned is, most of our ideas are pretty cool and most likely all the potential customers would agree when you try to validate but very few would actually hop on to try it. May be the implementation wasn't right, or may be its too hard to change the customer behavior to switch. Sometimes the customer was not serious enough when you pitched.
Well looks like it tried to come back (I saw it touch $200) but the media and twitter picked up its fall and started the panic more than ever. Right now at $140.
So if someone decides to sell 1 bitcoin at $157, immediately the lowest price falls to $157, causes panic among other bitcoin-ers and they all start selling, is that how the market works? I am not sure what is going on, I placed an order to buy at $210 but that is still pending since yesterday.
What a timing. Going out to meet someone over coffee. Although I tend to buy coffee for the other person by invitation, "I would love to buy you coffee and chat about xyz".
This is just a hack to show the power of firebase. Not that you should start using it as docs replacement but more of get an idea on what all you can do with firebase.
The app seems to have pretty large customer base already. And I thought Show HN was for people to show-off their new products/features/hacks. Anyway, I still don't understand what it does that is unique compared to competition. From its description all I see is all kinds of adjectives thrown around without concise use-case. Is it like a market place for planners and service providers?
I am somehow against people expecting me to write syntactical code at job interviews. I prefer to write pseudo code, explain my thought process. Being a guy who deals with various languages throughout the day makes it hard to code everything right when someone looking over my shoulder as I tend to google now and then to get right functions/methods of achieving something. Thats just me I guess.
Mobile payments is such a hard push right now. It might be useful to both merchants and consumers to jump on board but man the technology barrier is the killer in getting anyone comfortable using it. We are toying around the idea of mobile payments at carddrop running some pilots and I admit its disappointing despite the advantages advertised. The only company that could find Okay success is Starbucks through their prepaid mobile card. Even Google wallet seems to be struggling. I've seen LevelUp in couple of stores and I made sure to ask how often people use it to pay and the answer is always almost never.
90% of the time you'd have to go through a phone interview. A recruiter from the company or someone will first like to speak to you. I never had an in-person job interview without someone speaking to me on phone. Unfortunately, the situation is kinda hard sell. You should look for a company/team that values your tech skills, team player, writing skills, more than your ability to communicate verbally. A company that is more human. You should try to get recommendations from people who can attest your skills. I would love to hire you, if only I could.
That is indeed an interesting look. Although I think as more merchants start accepting bitcoins (especially on international websites), a whole new wave of opportunity will open up.
Bitcoin definitely has potential. I doubt if it's in a bubble. Its a right mix of need and want for the global economy. It is also getting a lot of traction. As more enterprises adopt, the more its potential for disruption. [Disclaimer: I have bitcoins in my wallet]
I doubt if there was any other case than the controversy. I doubt that the dev was any where incompetent. I say this simply because of the dev's interest in attending a conference and his company sponsoring it to him using forking and dongles in a sentence... those are simply good signals of a good developer and he being happy at his job. I feel that Pay Haven responded in a most defensive way by simply firing him and getting it out of their shoulders.
I think there is this huge expectation when it comes to sxsw for early stage startups. It's just a festival with lots and lots of people and that tends to attract both new and old companies to show off their products/talent. I was there too pitching my startup to whoever I had a conversation with. It was really interesting and I must say just watching the product being used by people I pitched was very overwhelming and insightful. It really made me rethink certain aspects/features of the product. At the end we did end up signing up over 200 new users and some of them seems to have adopted the platform. I did not buy the badge this year although there were times I felt I should have. I do recommend going there if you can afford. Simply to network, have fun and learn as much as possible.
This is very disappointing. I started attempting to reserve at 7:05AM tried for 8 times (waiting 6 mins everytime for it to find a ticket) and finally came back with Sold Out message.
