xlm1717··on How will the world vaccinate seven billion?
The ship has long since sailed for productivity missed.
xlm1717··on How will the world vaccinate seven billion?
Immunity doesn't last for the common cold because there's so many viruses that cause it.
xlm1717··on Donald Trump suggests delay to 2020 US presidential election
Wisconsin governor wants to delay primary? I sleep.

Trump wants to delay election? Real shit?

xlm1717··on 35% of excess deaths from pandemic not caused by Covid-19
You can read the article before commenting, you know.
xlm1717··on Don’t ask if artificial intelligence is good or fair, ask how it shifts power
“Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them.” - Dune
xlm1717··on 'Dramatic decline' in average age of Florida coronavirus patients
Using "average" and "median" interchangeably seems editorialized to me.
xlm1717··on The quest to crystallize time
The movie builds on the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis. The basic idea is that language changes how we think. The main character starts to think like the "aliens" because she starts to learn their language.
xlm1717··on Is Facebook’s Massive Open Office Scaring Away Developers?
To give my own anecdatum, from the pictures I've been able to find of Facebook's open office, it looks overwhelming to me. I would definitely be stressed there, to say the least.
xlm1717··on Cognitive behavioural therapy is falling out of favour
Ideally they won't be negative after working on them using CBT. In CBT, you have to be aware of your thoughts too, but instead of thinking "is this thought useful to me", you think "is this thought an accurate representation of my current situation". You then work on changing your thoughts until it is an accurate representation of your current situation. Categories like "mindreading" and "catastrophizing" mean that you are assessing a situation with incomplete information, and training your brain to not make snap judgments can be immensely more helpful than training your brain to just ignore those snap judgments. It does take a lot of work, but a lot of the time the thoughts you need CBT or mindfulness to work through, you get because there's an unresolved conflict in your life that you can't find a resolution for. It's better to train your brain to find a resolution for problems than to ignore them.
xlm1717··on [dead]
DNC opponents are ending up dead too.
xlm1717··on [dead]
Perhaps it would help to NOT damage your liver, which has a side effect of lowering your inhibitions. For some reason, the author seems to be OK with intoxication to the point of causing damage.
xlm1717··on Nervous about nukes again? Here’s what you need to know about the Button
This is why I roll my eyes every time Hillary tries to use nuclear weapons for scaremongering. Nobody, absolutely nobody wants to use nukes. Hillary needs to get realistic here.
xlm1717··on Why Russia Keeps Getting Away with Hacking America
And there were, what, only 900 before?
xlm1717··on By November, Russian hackers could target voting machines
It is getting ridiculous. They're blaming the Russian boogeyeman for everything now. I think it was telling when Leon Panetta got told "no more war" when he spoke at the DNC. The people aren't interested in fighting Russia, we have nothing to gain over there.
xlm1717··on Star Citizen – This War of Mine
I unfortunately did back it, and am very disappointed with the lack of progress. I imagine if I had been public about it like the author of the blog post, I would be pretty angry too with the response of oblivious backers trying their hardest to deny the fact that they made a bad deal.

It's a game that's way behind schedule. People shouldn't defend it, they should demand results. And if people would be so immature as to put down others demanding results, the immature blog post is understandable.

xlm1717··on Elections are bad for democracy
>Our voting system worked well for decades, but now it is broken.

Now that the elites don't get the desired result, it's broken.

The beatings will continue until morale improves!

xlm1717··on Fewer Than 1000 Brits Googled “What Is the EU?” After Referendum
The cracks continue to show in the media blitz, which is actually a media meltdown reflecting the meltdown of the elites, against Brexit. First, the petition for a second referendum was revealed to be a fraud. Now, the story that Brits somehow didn't know the implications of Brexit and, worse, somehow didn't even know what the EU was, is revealed to be greatly exaggerated.

The author put it very well:

>I’ve never seen such snobbery in my life. The post-Brexit condescension has been nauseating.

xlm1717··on EU Referendum Rules Triggering a 2nd EU Referendum
The economy is already bad enough for the people. The only ones who lost with this vote are the wealthy who rail against it on every news outlet.
xlm1717··on EU Referendum Rules Triggering a 2nd EU Referendum
Scotland had its chance, and decided no. London independence is just transparent elitism and will never happen.
xlm1717··on [dead]
And all the excuses start coming in. Yes, the people didn't understand what was good for the oligarchs and aristocrats was good for the people too, of course.
xlm1717··on [dead]
Article fails to mention the Sydney Hostage Crisis of 2014. Three people, including the gunman, were killed, so this event just fails to qualify as a mass shooting, but the fact is, in a country where shotguns are banned, a lone gunman still used a shotgun to hold 10 people hostage.
xlm1717··on Slowly Poisoned by Energy Drinks
I was really surprised that the B6 was the issue. I always thought that since B vitamins were water soluble they didn't build up in the body, never thought they would be harmful at such mega doses. Will definitely re-think vitamin supplements now.
xlm1717··on Trump
Along with the lazy Nazi comparisons.
xlm1717··on Gravitational Motion in JS
Is it on github?
xlm1717··on Drop the Supersonic Aircraft Ban
The article does touch on how newer designs could reduce sonic booms by making lighter aircraft. If a new supersonic jet is manufactured that is a fraction of the weight of a Concorde, it could be much more fuel efficient as well.
xlm1717··on Gawker Files for Bankruptcy, Will Be Put Up for Auction
The whole gawker media "empire" was despicable. This is reflected by the fact that so many were ambivalent or supportive of the lawsuit against gawker. Glad to have them gone.
xlm1717··on Period. Full Stop. Point. Whatever It’s Called, It’s Going Out of Style
>Hey new languages use white spaces and that s enough

Some of those languages also make you "communicate new ideas" on new lines, makes for better organization of ideas than simply depending on capitalization.

xlm1717··on They knew it was round, damn it
Hey may have left with 2 years' provisions, but as you said, he stopped at many islands along the way to restock his provisions.
xlm1717··on The Rise and Fall of Nintendo’s Miitomo: Why Downloads Don’t Matter
It should have had the ability to add friends over SMS from day one. I downloaded it on day one and my sister did too. However, since I have Android and she has iOS, the methods it launched with to add friends didn't work. If I could have added my sister as a friend, I probably would've been more interested in continuing to play miitomo.
xlm1717··on The TPP Is ‘Disastrous for Working Families’ and Central to the 2016 Campaign
The math doesn't add up. In the US alone there are 300M+ people. That would be 1% of 30B, many times more people than there currently are in the world.
