There are plenty of Tesla workers in Sweden that do not support the strike.
In Swedish though https://sverigesradio.se/avsnitt/tesla-strejken-och-varfor-m...
I think its time the interwebs also see that Unions are not all good, many work for themselves more than the workers that pay them.
One of the worst , from personal experience, was a modest monthly salary increase but instead we did not get overtime payed.
We did have to pay a higher fee to that mafia after that also. Assbags.
A very cruel and poorly informed comment imho. Poverty is not a crime.
It probably was c-19. I had a nasty flu back in 2017. I coughed so much I thought I had broken a rib. It took months to recover.
Long covid is still not properly defined and is more of a blanket term of feeling like shit after virus infection
List includes https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/covid-19/long-term-effects-of-...
* extreme tiredness (fatigue) * feeling short of breath * loss of smell * muscle aches
OR.
* problems with your memory and concentration ("brain fog") * chest pain or tightness * difficulty sleeping (insomnia) * heart palpitations * dizziness * pins and needles * joint pain * depression and anxiety * tinnitus, earaches * feeling sick, diarrhoea, stomach aches, loss of appetite * a high temperature, cough, headaches, sore throat, changes to sense of smell or taste * rashes
Many of these symptoms are simply post viral fatigue https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/326619#what-is-it. Post-viral syndrome may cause additional symptoms, such as:
* confusion * trouble concentrating * headaches * aches and pains in the muscles * stiff joints * a sore throat * swollen lymph nodes Which was considered perfectly normal before the big C.
Maybe long covid is a thing, but it really needs proper definition then.
How sick I am of the Covid nutters. If you want research money for something it seems to be just enough to slap some covid label or other and a cheque will be written no questions asked.
Also nature is falling from grace as a top notch elite non-partisan publisher as they have definitely turned partisan in the last few years, they still had the courage to publish the devastating outcome of their political agenda though
HN please stop upvoting this nonsense. Already the second and third answers are HN quality.
This is r/covid commentary. Does not belong here.
As so many of our media outlets lean to the left, the mocking and ridiculing was clearly ubiquitous.
And when it started to look like lab leak theory had some merit, media just went silent on the matter. SO I disagree hard with that it's a right or far right tool to sell hero worship.
Journalism has turned to absolute shit and anything that comes from the perceived "other" side must be instantly mocked without any investigation or partisan integrity. And should the "other" side show merit there will either be silence or continued mockery along the lines of "even a broken clock is right twice a day" . Left and right equally guilty.
Journalism is a joke. Maybe it always was and it's just these past 3 years that made so many of us realise exactly what a sh**show it actually is.
Several polls have shown that trust in news media is at a historical low https://news.gallup.com/poll/195542/americans-trust-mass-med...
and even expert opinion https://www.pewresearch.org/science/2022/02/15/americans-tru... has lost all merit as it is just, for the lack of a better word, raped to haul in clicks.
This is especially true for the medical scientists who could not get their shit together during the crisis and seemed to have a pissingcompetition of who could recommend the most intrusive, obnoxious guideline that conflicted the most with what any other "expert" scientist recommended.
Masking toddlers, banning sitting on public park benches, banning children from playgrounds. Banning walking outdoors in company. Masking while standing up in a restaurant to take it off while sitting down. Banning sports, isolating the elderly to the point of driving them to insanity and severe cognitive decline. DENYING AEROSOL SPREAD. That one is my personal pet peeve with the scientific community. The embarrassing list is endless.
My own trust in medical expertise, that is, the one I see in the news. Is at an all time low. I ofc listen to my personal MD. But if she'd proclaim something in the media I'd probably never listen to her again and switch doctors.
It feels like the need to define operations is a bit like if a dev role needed to be defined by IDE or language How about visualGolangDev or categorize devs after what kind of code is being written microserviceDev vs backendDev vs middleWareDev In all honesty, can we just go back to ops ? It was a fine name. Said it all and running k8s , a unix server or a ci/cd pipeline is essentially just operations.
What is wrong with ops ?
chatgpt has improved search for me by orders of magnitude. Especially since google has started to border on useless.
Bur searching reddit? Meh. Not for technical stuff at least.
Niche high quality subs may point me in the right direction. Like r/ponds for example. Wonderful little sub.
r/doggroomers is absolute shit mostly full of shaming dog owner pics and toxic comments.
r/programming was great 8 years ago. Now I doubt any human over 18 posts there.
Honestly if reddit never comes back again I think the interwebs have gained a level in quality as it is just a toxic echo chamber for young people who think they are some form of superiour liberals.
Good riddance.
Right… Nordics love to pick on US when their own healthcare have up to a decade of waiting times for inportant procedures. Up to two years for even an interview with a specialist.
Every single hospital sydtem in the Nordic countries is broken beyone hell. Both Sweden and Denmark offer private insurance so you can bypass lines and cut down costs.
Iceland does not. No idea about Finland and Norway.
In the nordics you pay socialist taxes for what is turning in to a kapitalist system.
I wish my fellow Nordics would grow up and face our crippled internal system of throwing immature comments on the US about our “free” healthcare.
Its neither free nor is it working.
I pay 43% of my salary to taxes. I also pay private health insurance as do half of the population here.
I also pay road tolls, school fees, taxes because I have a mobile ohone from work due to on call. Taxes because work offers food on premis. The dentist costs 100 euro just for a basic examination and some xrays.
Food cost is at an all time high, so is heating and electricity.
Nordics celebrating nordic superiority is more like the frog being boiled so slowly he doesnt realize until its too late.
Sweden is a capitalist country with socialist taxes.
I speak as a toxic person myself. Years of systemaric abuse and I was pretty much a marcissistic asshole.
100% a defense mechanism to avoid abuse. I had never learned what validation was. Also I isually assumed everyone was out to get me.
Took me years of living without a relationship to learn to learn what an absolute dunderhead I could be.
Sometimes other peoples actions are simply a reflection of your own attitide.
I look at it this way, if everyone around me is an ahole, the only thing they have in common is me. Maybe, just maybe, I myself may need to learn to communicate and validate those around me. And I need to do that without selling myself short.
Thats like compairing backroom gossip to news. Sure both have their biases and inaccuracies, but at least one of them holds a resemblance of accountability as opposed to the other that can spew anonymous bogus crap at will. With zero consequence.
Reddit has very poor quality content. And it keeos on getting worse. Its just too riddled with bots. Imagine youtubes comment section without the videos. Reddit in a nutshell.
Eg, I tried vegan and was utterly miserable. But I learned how to make delicious plant based dishes and as a result of my vegan period. I actually eat much less meat/dairy and have higher plant intake now than before my vegan experiment.
Another is how much shit cardio gets from fitness experts. The moment I stopped doing cardio and resistance only I gained weight, my face got a “haunted” look to it and I got depressed. Added back my 40 minutes of cardio and I feel normal and healthy again. 30 min resistance followed by 40 minutes of cardio. 30 because thats the programme I follow. I dont know why 40 min of cardio. Its just what seems optimal for me after a few years of trial and error.
I never eat breakfast. I eat more during the day if I am forced to eat breakfast. I get heartburn if I dont have an evening snack.
The rest HN already knows.
50k+ in the other FAANGs.
Company count change in last 3 years
Apple: +20%.
Amazon: +100%.
Facebook: +94%.
Google: +57%.
Microsoft: +53%.
So there is simply the case of massive overhiring in c19 times.
Is it really so bad though that they overhired in lockdown times where unemployment and desperation soared and layoffs are now during a time where tech people usually have an offer or two within weeks?
Just playing devils advocare here.
Most local companies have started to demand employees back in office full time also. Which tells me that management in tech where I live ( nordics ) is generally bad and they just want to see bodies in the office, under the guise of teamwork of course, more than anything.
The international companies that have offices in multiple countries do not bother with mandatory in-office nonsense nearly as much. My guess is they are the ones picking up all available talent at the moment.
Today, unless you pay private insurance, you can wait 13 years ( not a typo, you wait a teenager ) for hip surgery.
Sweden today. One of the richest “socialist” countries on the planet.
This is really low quality thread material and brings nothing to the conversation. Cant you bring this kind of pointless addedums to that other site that must not be named?
As in opinions presented as evidence, from an almost random person, without actually providing any.
Especially around social subjects like the BLM protests.
One thing I loved about 60 minutes back in the day, was their ability to present a story from multiple points of views.
When I started reading Nature at my former employers, many many years ago, I felt their articles were like that.
At some point it started to look like cherrypicking a single viewpoint, often with obvious political taint.
Maybe it was always like that and I just used to idolize it.
I still very much love the magazine though but stopped subscribing. Its really expensive.
When I get my hands on a copy these days I just filter what I perceive as woke crap from the rest and skip those articles.
I wonder if that is such a good thing… Edit: typo and context
Duck bill mask clad Germans generally stay in Germany. And they look insane. Like warning signs of nature insane.
Public announcements in Sweden, Norway and Denmark, from epidemiologists and ICU doctors recently is to stay the <f**> home if you are sick. If sick dont go out wearing a mask since it protects no one and, even if immuno compromized, live like you did in 2019 you are not protected wearing a flimsy surgical facemask and you need to socialize and not lock yourself up for the rest of your days.
And once you are not sick anymore, go back to work. Don't bother the currently overloaded hospitals unless something is very wrong, you know when your cold/flu is over.
https://www.svt.se/nyheter/inrikes/overlakaren-restriktioner.... https://www.svt.se/nyheter/lokalt/vasterbotten/smittskyddsla....
Use common sense.
So no , presumably democrat american internet stranger. Dont wear a mask, If sick stay at home. Dont go out, face covered, and think you have saved a life. Mask is pointless.
Hand washing still applies though.
Don't think handwashing has been controversial since dr. Ignaz Semmelweis in 1865 was declared insane and put in an asylum by the medical establishment for suggesting that hand washing prevented doctors from spreading disease between their patients.
