wyck··on The Unauthorized Story of Andreessen Horowitz
Its not coins or tokens, but the blockchain that is already being integrated into traditional and decentralized finance. All the major financial players are working on some sort of smart contracts to reduce paperwork and more precisely the people that do the paperwork. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
wyck··on Launch HN: Seed (YC W21) – A Fully-Managed CI/CD Pipeline for Serverless
Is this faster then using the deploy function command in serverless? Look's very interesting.
wyck··on DuckDuckGo Reaches 100M Daily Search Queries
I think something improved, I used to switch back and forth probably used 80% Google, but know I now use DDG about 80% of the time.
wyck··on Pirate Bay founder thinks Parler’s inability to stay online is 'embarrassing'
Well he was in a band called Anal Chinook.
wyck··on Show HN: Amplication – Instantly Generate Node.js Apps with GraphQL and REST API
Well with the quick spin I did I wanted to create a few integer based data types, which is pretty standard for a DB/API. Your numerical type only allows for 7 numbers which seems very odd. Postgres for example has 10 different default integer data types. Putting in 11111111 throws an error. There's more than enough reasons why you need larger ranges and more control over the types.
wyck··on Show HN: Amplication – Instantly Generate Node.js Apps with GraphQL and REST API
Really cool, super intuitive UI. I won't really be able to use it though until it supports more data types, hopefully with specific DB's in mind.
wyck··on YouTube bans Steve Bannon's podcast channel
Driving groups of people more underground to use protocols and services which are hard to ban is a good tactic overall? That will eventually put a bullseye on the whole internet.
wyck··on Kraken Is Down
Online trading platforms also go down...just like crypto exchanges. The tech stack has to be incredibly resilient and fast, several steps above most software in terms of performance and reliability.
wyck··on 5M+ Wordpress sites use “Classic Editor” plugin
Guternberg was late to the game for bloggers and writers, playing catch-up to Medium and countless headless javascript based CMS's more friendly to writing, they were obviously behind the innovation curve. But it also threw all the WP developers/agencies and companies that use page builders because to save time and money a curve ball. It should have been a plugin, the direction of WP as purely a blogging platform is a train that left the station many years ago.

The main driver or WP at this point is actually well designed themes and theme marketplaces, once again saving people tons of money and time.

wyck··on Crossing 2000 Miles of Siberia to Reach One of the Most Isolated Cities on Earth
Yes, but you will take cold winter any day over the summer bugs. Lot of water and enough black flies and mosquitoes to drive fully grown moose insane.
wyck··on Wordpress market share keeps growing
I don't ? I have contributed to core, have used WP for a decade, created numerous plugins (wpgear, wordphing) and themes . I have an opinion about Gutenberg and am more familiar it's development cycle than most developers. How about you keep your opinion to yourself when it come to personal attacks.
wyck··on Why Jira Sucks
Some constructive advice, your homepage is messy, the ratios and spacing are really off and makes it hard to digest and focus on your features. This will directly impact your actual product. Please don't be insulted , I've spend 20 years in design/branding and want you to succeed but this homepage isn't doing it, you need a brand book with some strict guidelines.
wyck··on Wordpress market share keeps growing
Agreed Gutenberg was a huge mistake, from a software perspective this lacked direction. Re-inventing a wheel is never a good thing.
wyck··on 9k-Year-Old Stonehenge-Like Structure Found Under Lake Michigan
Lake Agassiz in present day Manitoba was larger then all the great lakes combined, after the last glacial period. Most of it is now livable land. Water moves around, it would be very presumptuous to think you know what the shorelines and lakes were like in the last 12000 years.
wyck··on Rock art discovered in remote Amazon forest
To be honest the title is a bit sensationalist (Sistine chapel ..ya that's a journalist), its from the twitter of a TV show host not a scientist.

The whole area is famous for rock art and has been documented since the pre 1940's. Tens of thousands of district rock art has been found here for decades, this exact area has been under excavation since 2015, but was previously excavated in 1989. Some of the site names are Angosturas II, Limoncillos, and Cerro Montoya.

Oh and the very photo's published in the link are not new , there are articles from before 2018 showing the exact same image..

wyck··on CERN 2019 WorldWideWeb Rebuild
I remember using this, though very briefly and more out of pure curiosity. It's weird to think that back then I felt http was a rather boring protocol, it was like reading a file only much much slower. Talk about lacking insight.
wyck··on Why build another website builder?
Dear Everybody, avoid all web site "builders" that are not open source.
wyck··on HashiCorp Boundary
With a name like HashiCorp I expected this to be a decentralized blockchain identity network similar to IBM's Sovrin, still really cool though, managing id's and permissions is such a pita.
wyck··on Vapor – Decentralized Web over Bitcoinized HTTP
I guess some speed tests would be insightful since your effectively doing more hops, and also a comparison to why this beats SSL.

You list the pro's but what about the cons? Surely having an immutable ledger has some negatives, as well as a signing server.

wyck··on The Internet's Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz (2014) [video]
The DOJ threw the book at him in part because he wrote a manifesto called "Guerilla Open Access". It wasn't deemed a one-off offense, but possibly part of a "plan". Still complete bullshit what they did.

You can read it here: http://archive.org/stream/GuerillaOpenAccessManifesto/Goamju...

wyck··on PHP 8.0.0 beta 2
WordPress accounts for approximately 60% of all websites, PHP accounts for approximately 79% (knows server side sites). So I would say it is particularity popular.
wyck··on Dark Web Price Index 2020
Um these people deal in bulk efficient sales and mitigate risk, so it makes tons of sense.
wyck··on How Police Secretly Took over a Global Phone Network for Organized Crime
Also signal complies with all police and government request, even if it's just meta data "supposedly".
wyck··on Hundreds arrested as crime chat network cracked
Your either born a hustler or born into it. In the last few decades the hustlers do need IT help, especially online gambling, money laundering, etc. But it does come with risks, you don't want to be the IT guy who recommended this cracked app.
wyck··on A Thousand Pounds of Dynamite (2014)
I think your missing the point, a money drop is about transportation/distribution and not anonymity. Transporting money is the hard part and bitcoin has changes this area more than anything. Being anonymous is easily circumvented by various other techniques, some new, some old.
wyck··on Julian Assange charged in superseding indictment
What most people seem to fail to realize is that in of itself is not necessary proof of collusion. There is the "street" theory that publishing records on powerful Russians ends with a bullet in your head( or worse) and not jail or any legal proceedings. Something to think about.
wyck··on Ask HN: Google won't remove my site URL from random business using it on Maps
I don't think this is accurate, I've been through trademark requests with Google and it has always worked out before lawyers need to be involved. It does take time and you have to rattle a few bells but there are procedures in place.

The best advice I can give you, if/when you talk to a real person at Google and they are not helpful, just hang-up and try again until you find someone who can help you.

wyck··on Berlin Gold Hat
Well there is a vaste amount of evidence and history regarding religious use of hats. It's not a stretch to assume this hat was used by a priest or someone in a leadership role, ancient Egypt has volumes of different immense hat types worn by priests and Pharaohs, Christianity does as well, the pope's various Mitre hat's for example, worn for thousands of years. High priests and priestess's of many types of religions, ancient and modern, use hats to signify rank, especially those made with gold, rare materials, and decorated with significance.
wyck··on Six eBay executives and employees charged over alleged cyberstalking campaign
And yet ebay stock is at a near all time high, with this kind of corporate culture in place? We really live in bizarre times.
wyck··on After GitHub CEO backs Black Lives Matter, workers demand an end to ICE contract
Company leadership who don't understand the danger of politics are poisoning their own well. If you open the door to what is fundamentally not part of your core values and culture (in this case a programming/engineering platform), then expect the worse.
