wukkuan··on Adblock Plus is probably the reason Firefox and Chrome are such memory hogs
Same in Firefox.

Though I just never bothered installing Flash. If I need Flash for a site, I use Chrome (which comes with Flash embedded, I believe).

wukkuan··on Uber Executive Suggests Digging Up Dirt on Journalists
I believe she is referring to opting out of the full body scanners[1] in American airports. One can do that by telling the TSA agent that they'd like to opt out of the scanner. They will instead do a manual pat down.

wukkuan··on The web, it's for everyone
That's a valid concern, but unrelated to JavaScript being required. Making a JavaScript web application screen reader accessible is no problem.
wukkuan··on Immutable Data Collections for Javascript
This isn't used internally by Facebook at this point. The author mentioned this after your post. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=8108741
wukkuan··on Typeracer – Improve/test typing speed via online typing races
Pretty fun game!

I had one issue though. I managed to type 129wpm in one round (I normally type around 105-110, this particular paragraph was easy). It told me to be allowed to use this score I had to prove I could type 117wpm on an obfuscated (think captcha) document. I was not able to do that. It's a good idea, in theory. Maybe if I'd tried a few more times I could have gotten it up there.

wukkuan··on Devcards – Taking Interactivity to the Next Level
This is great work. The video in particular sold the idea to me.

Projects like this are really making me want to build something substantial in ClojureScript.

wukkuan··on Show HN: Capture a screen area in OS X and automatically pin it
It's in the Mac App Store (they can't charge you again later) so it's free to download and use forever, offer expiring after one month.
wukkuan··on Switching to DuckDuckGo and Firefox
I can confirm that. I really miss that feature.
wukkuan··on Your Feedback Matters – Update on Xbox One
What are the features the PS4 has that are missing on the Xbox One? Genuine question.
wukkuan··on Click on a few dots and this program will guess your age
It guessed I was 10. I'm old enough to have received a BS and have had a job for quite a few years. I'm not sure why it would think that.
wukkuan··on Facebook computers compromised by zero-day Java exploit
Firefox has one, too.

about:config, search for "plugins.click_to_play". Enable!

wukkuan··on Tim Cook's Freshman Year
I use space for page down and shift+space for page up. Scrolling means tracking where I am as I go, when I hit page down I know where to start reading, the top. It feels more like reading a book.
wukkuan··on Show HN: My Sort-of-DIY, Dual 30", Sit-Stand Treadmill Desk Setup
Absolutely nothing, but I prefer when you disclaim that you've included one.
wukkuan··on Show HN: My Sort-of-DIY, Dual 30", Sit-Stand Treadmill Desk Setup
I understand your point (and agree), but a nice stout and some fancy chocolate go quite well together. :)
wukkuan··on Nokia 'Here Map' arrives at the App Store
Do you happen to have a source for this? I've always heard (via offhand comments, admittedly) that the deal was done and Google wasn't surprised.
wukkuan··on Ask HN: Tell us about your side projects.
Yesterday I launched my iOS receipt management app, Simple Receipts. My goal was to make the absolute simplest app possible, as all of the (many) existing ones were complex.

By default it simply saves your receipt images to your camera roll. If you link with Dropbox, it will upload them there.

As of today it's $0.99 in the App Store. You can find it here:

wukkuan··on Bucket Brigade Hauls Diesel Fuel up 17 Stories to Keep NYC Data Center Online
Building a pulley system would take some significant time and requires finding the necessary tools and resources. The bucket brigade is much simpler and immediately available.

Not nearly as much fun, though.

wukkuan··on Always “hover” before you click? Wrong.
No, this has been the case for as long as I can remember. Years, at least.
wukkuan··on Kickstarter's new team page
I'm really impressed with how smooth this is. No slowdowns on my 2009 MBP running Firefox 18.0a2 (Aurora).
wukkuan··on How cork is made
There's a cork recycling bin at the Green Life (owned by Whole Foods) in my hometown. They don't mention what they use it for, as far as I can tell, but I'd guess they sell it somewhere.
wukkuan··on Google releases 'Field Trip' app, a location-aware guidebook
Interesting. I thought the opposite. I watched it before I saw any information about what it was, and had no idea what it was supposed to be about in the end. I just needed a little more context at the beginning, and I think it would have been quite clear.
wukkuan··on The World's Lightest Electric Vehicle
I've seen a good number of people bringing longboards into coffee shops and places like that. I'd imagine it would be harder to bring it into a fancier establishment, though.
wukkuan··on Why you should quit Facebook too
Can you go into more detail on how you use an RSS reader to consume Facebook? I've seen that you can subscribe to individual pages, is that what you're doing?
wukkuan··on Just Scroll
iOS5 - with an iPhone4S - Worked fairly well and tolerably fast, but not particularly smooth. Took a while to load initially, too.
wukkuan··on Show HN: QuicklyChat - A video walkie-talkie for the workplace
This particular installer is a .app rather than a .pkg. I don't think there's anything that would make a .app log all of its changes.
wukkuan··on Mothership Down: Apple bug halts the production of development certificates.
I'm not a first timer, but I recently signed up for a developer account and went to set it up last night. I spent a few hours getting angry and trying everything I knew to make it work, until I went to the Apple Dev forums and saw a post about it.

It's so complicated that I couldn't tell if it was broken or if I was doing something wrong.

wukkuan··on Tips for Remote Unix Work (SSH, screen, and VNC)
Be sure to read the info as you install sshfs via homebrew. Getting fuse4x working right requires a couple extra steps.
wukkuan··on Show HN: When is good time to submit a story on HN?
Very interesting!

However, I can't find any indication of what time zone you're displaying. Is it my time zone, GMT+0, or something else?

wukkuan··on Show HN: My network connection monitor for Mac
VMWare and most applications that do this use Authorization Services. It's what pops up the dialog asking you to enter your password. Feels pretty magic to use it.
