wtf_srsly··on Why I use Firefox
AFAIK Google can't decrypt your Chrome data either (if you've set an optional passphrase).

See https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/165139.

wtf_srsly··on Apple and Google confirm governments spy on users through push notifications
There are apps, like WhatsApp on iOS, that receive silent notifications and are started upon receiving them, allowing them to process these notifications locally (as explained in my other comment in this thread).

This method enables them to bypass the need for sending clear text content through Apple's servers, upholding their end-to-end encryption.

However, this practice can slightly impact battery consumption, which is probably why this specific entitlement is not freely available to all apps. It's a balance between enhanced security and a marginal increase in battery usage.

wtf_srsly··on Apple and Google confirm governments spy on users through push notifications
As far as I know, WhatsApp on iOS uses a special entitlement (com.apple.developer.usernotifications.filtering) for securely handling notifications.

They receive silent push notifications, which wake up the app (a reason for the entitlement being restricted). Once awake, the app takes over, managing the notification itself.

This approach circumvents sending notification content in cleartext through Apple's servers, thereby preserving their end-to-end encryption.

wtf_srsly··on Google will add E2E encryption to Authenticator backups
Aren't the Chrome passswords part of the (optionally) E2EE encrypted data? It might not be the default but AFAIK they definitely _can_ be E2EE encrypted.
wtf_srsly··on The Nashville bombing and threats to critical infrastructure
It's actually quite easy to find. Just click on the DOI link for the full paper (https://doi.org/10.23812/20-269-e-4).
wtf_srsly··on Apple's apps bypass firewalls like LittleSnitch and LuLu on macOS Big Sur
48 hours is pretty optimistic. At least for the 2016 model they can't just change the keycaps but they'll have to change the whole bottom case. This took a few weeks for me since I had to send it to a certified repair center.

> Apple seems to do all kinds of weird networking _stuff_. For instance, during wakeup, your T2 equipped Macbook will wait for a DNS response and then use said DNS response to synchronize time via NTP before letting the user use the keyboard. Probably checking timestamps on signatures for the keyboard firmware, or something stupid like that. This only happens if it happens to have a default route.

I had the same thing happening to me but Apple changed the complete keyboard under their extended keyboard warranty programm (even though it was out of Apple Care already).

wtf_srsly··on Inline CSS works better in a component world
> You can do these things in JavaScript: match your media queries in JavaScript and change the inline styles, and reimplement :hover, :focus and the likes. But I expect (without supporting measurements) that doing this for everything will be fairly bad for performance, and it will generally be less responsive (in the performance sense of the word rather than the resolution-independence sense of the word), e.g. your state-dependent styles may apply a frame later than they should.

It's also fairly bad practice to put your CSS into JavaScript for a number of reasons (such as accessibility, disabled javascript etc.).

wtf_srsly··on Inline CSS works better in a component world
That's just a hack using css custom properties that still requires a global css file to define all breakpoints on the html element.

Also, how does it work for pseudo elements, state selectors etc. ? I can just see examples for media queries.

In my opinion it's also not really nice to read, just look at the example on his github page https://github.com/propjockey/css-media-vars.

Do you really think this is easier to read than normal media queries ?

wtf_srsly··on Inline CSS works better in a component world
That you can't have inline pseudo elements, state selectors etc. There's a lot of stuff thats just possible with a proper css file / tags.
wtf_srsly··on Tesla Gets Crushed in Germany by EVs from Volkswagen, Renault, and Hyundai Group
I am from Germany and you'll see a lot of french EVs (e.g. Renault Zoe) on the road here since they're relatively cheap and you can get some tax deductions.

Not so many people want to spend Tesla money for mediocre build quality.

wtf_srsly··on REPL Debugging: No Stacktrace Required (2017)
As is javascript. Have you ever tried debugging an application with Chrome ?

I frequently use the "pause on exception" feature of the debugger or also place breakpoints strategically and then use the console as REPL for further debugging.

wtf_srsly··on BMW Connected Apps Protocol
This isn't true anymore.

With MBUX Mercedes has started developing their infotainment system in-house again. I don't personally own a Mercedes but from what I've heard it's much better then the previously outsourced infotainment system.

wtf_srsly··on Show HN: Monkberry – a JavaScript library for building web user interfaces
I think it isn't the animation itself but the blatant abuse of box-shadow to create all the stars. Using an image for example should greatly reduce the required performance.
wtf_srsly··on One-Time SSH Keys
That's what I also thought. But wouldn't it be possible to change the ownership of the authorized_keys file to root? Otherwise maybe am backup of the authorized_keys file and rollback after logout would be an option.
wtf_srsly··on Why does ++[[]][+[]]+[+[]] return the string “10”?
You can also easily "obfuscate" your whole code with this syntax using this site http://www.jsfuck.com/
