wowokay··on “Twitter will be forming a content moderation council with diverse viewpoints”
If it is I think the term needs to be reviewed. In fact if people want to get sensitive about their racial identity then they need to focus on the actual words and tone.

Especially when it seems like alot of the time people are called racist or sexist for sharing a viewpoint that in their view is accurate.

For example, whenever I run into drivers that don’t react to a light change I have noticed it tends to be a woman with a phone in her hand.

I’m sure someone would take issue with my experience listed above, but I feel like I should have the right to make such a comment without backlash, because in my experience that observation holds true.

My point is I feel like context and history are important.

wowokay··on You don’t understand how bad it could get in Europe this year
That’s a joke right?
wowokay··on Twitch finally takes action against gambling
I have to be honest 100% of the games I play with loot boxes don’t let you trade the rewards. So that is different because to me loot boxes are just a different way to get cosmetics that I can’t buy with real money from other ppl. That means I don’t view them as having value to anyone but myself.
wowokay··on ‘Serial’ case: Adnan Syed released, conviction tossed
To be honest I don’t understand how it’s thought that police have to much power. Especially since every case makes it’s way in front of a judge.
wowokay··on Viral “racism in academia” story deleted when I started asking questions
Totally understandable, honestly I use it to vent frustrations and yell at companies.
wowokay··on The Japanese tradition of raising and eating wasps (2019)
That is true, I’d be more curious about the food source evolution. Even in this article the writer pointed out that it was a tradition and that sourcing the wasps was getting harder each year due to pesticides. Does this mean culturally they have moved past eating wasps and moved on to more “normal” food sources? I’ve never thought of eating insects as a primary source of food for a culture unless they were poor and couldn’t afford better foods.
wowokay··on Malvertising on Microsoft Edge's news feed pushes tech support scams
I have not had that experience, generally I don’t see ads thanks to adblockers, and the platform just works and supports almost 100% of all apps. It is also fast, and I’m sure Linux could be faster but I feel it’s lacking features and support for most games and software that I use (making it easy to see why it could run faster).
wowokay··on Malvertising on Microsoft Edge's news feed pushes tech support scams
No, I think it’s in that bucket, personally I haven’t had a problem with them.
wowokay··on Google pays ‘enormous’ sums to maintain search-engine dominance, DOJ says
No, I think most of us though google was a more innovative company that could create a way to share that many results, feels more like an EA move where google stopped trying years ago and just went into search maintance mode.
wowokay··on Queen Elizabeth II has died
Agreed
wowokay··on Queen Elizabeth II has died
I know none of us knew her personally but this doesn’t seem like a sentiment shared by most, and it is definitely not something to bring up when she isn’t even in the ground yet.
wowokay··on Customer who defamed BC company on Google, Yelp ordered to pay $90k
Well but at the same time reviews on those platforms are opinion related to services rendered. I suppose it’s fair to say that comments can be worded in a better way in order to avoid something like this. It could also see the going after Google and other services that offer a review platform because I feel there should be a legal warning shown before posting a review if it is no longer taken as opinion and instead is considered factual. This also somehow feels like a win for companies like Comcast/Xfinity that are often reviewed terribly.
wowokay··on Remotely Controlled Lawn Tractor
That is true, it is frustrating that times have changed to the point where innovation in this scale is hampered under the guise of safety.
wowokay··on Time Till Open Source Alternative
Your second sentence doesn’t make sense because their post presented a lot of good points that move the argument past a “I don’t like it so it’s bad” argument. To knock it up another notch those same points could be applied to Linux over Windows. Market (user) adoption is the only real metric to measure against. The argument I submit is that a tool like Gimp can’t be considered better if it can’t claim the market to prove it, if it was fundamentally better at its core adoption would pass the non open source leader.
wowokay··on Most Texans pay more in taxes than Californians, data suggests
1500 for a studio man people are getting robbed in those dense places.
wowokay··on H1B rejected – builds unicorn back home
I feel like a good relationship with Russia is not a plus for India right now.
wowokay··on H1B rejected – builds unicorn back home
It has been stable since I have been here? In fact all the issues that make the most $$$, gun violence, abortion, race relations, these are not a problem at the macro level. If anything it should be commended that our media and leadership has the luxury to complain about these “issues” that affect less then 5% of the population.
wowokay··on H1B rejected – builds unicorn back home
The threat of a school shooting is real everywhere, I don’t think the news does justice to showcase how often gun violence could have been avoided if the individuals in the kids life payed attention.
wowokay··on H1B rejected – builds unicorn back home
No this is not true, you can’t be denied medical treatment in the US even if you don’t have the ability to pay it.
wowokay··on Remote startups will win the war for top talent
I assume you don’t keep in touch with people through social media or texting then? Or would you not consider those remote people actual friends since you can’t collaborate with them in physical locations regularly?
wowokay··on Remote startups will win the war for top talent
True, I think the rhetoric and The article are focused on killing the negative concepts around remote. To the extreme in pointing out that most of the common tropes are not accurate. The problem is I don’t think anti-remote people understand that in some cases there whole team may want to be remote 100% of the time, and that it’s not right to be in the mindset that those team members should be forced to come into an office to satisfying there need for socialization, in fact unfortunately in that situation maybe they need to change fields or companies.
wowokay··on HBO Max pulls nearly 200 ‘Sesame Street’ episodes
But it also leaves you hanging, I bet more shows get dropped because people watch a filler episode and feel like they spent a week getting excited for no reason, or worse the anticipation creates a recipe for letdown. Like watching porn before having sex.
wowokay··on HBO Max pulls nearly 200 ‘Sesame Street’ episodes
Gross. Individuals are responsible for avoiding spoilers, not the community. Having a fixed time when episodes become available probably causes more spoilers anyway, once that time passes it’s open season.

Plus that’s how disappointment and resentment are formed. You wait a week to watch the episode and then they kill off all the WW in a single episode, makes the years of build up feel like shit. If I could binge the season from the start I might not have stopped watching it because you are not sitting there almost expecting a letdown for the next week.

wowokay··on Apple is building an ad empire as its iPhone privacy crackdown weakens rivals
With facts, research, leaked documents.
wowokay··on Serving Netflix Video Traffic at 800Gb/s and Beyond [pdf]
Hulu was around before netflix
wowokay··on Benefits of the Danish transfat ban for coronary heart disease mortality
True, but people might get pissed off if they notice there food tastes different.
wowokay··on Raft Consensus Animated (2014)
What did you guys run this on? I have had zero issues with it and the animations and progression felt guided and informative.
wowokay··on Tell HN: Unpaid home assignments are not ok
Also it should ooz through our LinkedIn profile. They can verify the experience.
wowokay··on $5.6B cloud company Fivetran acquired its way to survival
I think what they were saying is this company puts off snake oil vibes. It's like calling Microsoft a success in the game industry when they bought companies or products to position themselves as a leader of the industry when the argument can be made that they couldn't build it back up if it went under.
wowokay··on Cramming 'Papers, Please' onto Phones
Desktops still exist! In fact streamers and PC gamers use them! I don’t really play games on my phone I think the people that do are usually playing games because it’s convenient or prioritized in cost over desktops, since everyone believes they and there kids need phones.
