wowokay··on Delta CEO wants U.S. to put unruly passengers on 'no-fly' list
Just like the German soldiers running concentration camps during WW2 right? Rules are rules, doesn’t matter if the majority of people disagree with them.
wowokay··on Cruise is opening driverless cars to the public in San Francisco
Honestly it’s hard to read your comment without an envious tone. You even admitted his timing was right, that alone takes skill. The point others are making is that there are lots of examples of failed companies, yet his have been successful. If anyone could have done what he’s done, why haven’t they?
wowokay··on One more small step toward the right to software repair
I don’t know about this take, software updates when it comes to consumer products have never been mandatory, only perceived as mandatory in order to gain some new feature. As a developer, there are times we have to compromise old logic in order to add new logic. In other areas of life we call those changes progress.
wowokay··on The Pandemic Boom Goes Bust
Non productive would be referring to stimulus checks and child tax credit money in the US, you will hear stories about families making 10-15k and using it for Disney trips, all that did was incentivize not working and paying of people that made the decision to have to many kids. It’s also caused the bottom of he job market to see increased pay while the middle and upper markets get pay decreases in the form on inflation. All in all not worth it IMO.
wowokay··on 22-year-old builds chips in his parents’ garage
Ironically they see engineers as replaceable and view every member of leadership as a Jeff Bezos level unique business edge. I’m all honesty I have just always viewed managements role as a different skill set, one that has successfully thrived longer then the IT industry has even existed. Even while we as engineers tend to feel they are replaceable I think we don’t see the value in the work they do to ensure we get funding, resources, and leadership support.

I must be misunderstanding your comment. You are saying that younger companies in the US are becoming more wealthy and innovating more or at the same level as a few entrench EU companies that have successfully stifled the EU market ensuring they never lose there market share or have a need to innovate to complete in a free market, is that correct?
wowokay··on Show HN: CodeCaptcha - Hide web links behind coding challenges
I think it’s great! I think most people either ignore your statement or decided to interpret it in the wrong way.

For everyone else: The author made it clear that the purpose is weed out non-engineers. Practicaly there may not really be a use case there but it was never designed to replace captcha, most people wouldn’t be able to access the link, and anyone using or purchasing the use of a bot farm already meets the captcha requirements (albeit with extremely unnecessary additional steps).

wowokay··on Is the madness ever going to end?
Long time slack app user here, I don’t know how you guys organize your slack but performance has never been an issue for our organization, I don’t think it would run any better then it currently does if it were an os native app, of course my machine isn’t a toaster.
wowokay··on Germany: Data retention to be abolished
I don't want to lose all my steam games just because I am inactive for a time. That us a terrible idea, I purchased those digital goods, that's like saying crypto markets should dump data from time to time.
wowokay··on You block ads in your browser, why not in your city?
Idk, I have never been upset about ads in real life, I wouldn't consider most if any as unwanted.
wowokay··on IMF, 10 countries simulate cyber attack on global financial system
I'm still confused, is Ethan Hunt involved,
wowokay··on Missouri found mask mandates work, but didn’t make findings public
Those fields people choose to join, they made the decision to accept that requirement. Plus as others have said in the grand scheme it's not the most effective Solution. Remote work, contactless services and other similar initiatives would yield a higher success and would reduce other things like crime and environmental impacts, why not pursue that or a contactless society instead if the goal is to prevent transmission
wowokay··on Missouri found mask mandates work, but didn’t make findings public
Actually there's a simple reason. If I have to wear a mask and social distance, I see no value in a vaccine. The point behind the "political" position isn't that masking is bad, the main position is that a mandate requiring it is bad. In a country where "My body, my choice" this is clearly a contradiction.
wowokay··on Why don’t we just open the windows? Covid-19 prevention lost in translation
That makes sense, you live in Seattle where the temperature doesn’t fluctuate more then 20 degrees. If we are giving simple solutions and changing the focus to energy conservation why not just increase energy production? It’s not like our power needs are going down, how about focusing on innovations in that space before taking restrictive measures?
wowokay··on Smart sunglasses with lenses displaying real-time data for cyclers
Have you used or seen a HUD before? For example if you play video games, how many times might someone die while looking away from the screen? What about compared to glancing at their health, or Ammo? While the uninitiated think a HUD blocks your vision, it actually rests in a position (and is translucent) in such a way that you see through it and any glance would be milliseconds comparer to seconds of looking away. Plus your peripheral vision. Would notice changes to things while looking at the HUD compared to looking completely away.
wowokay··on Nicholas Carr on how to fix social media
Do you have studies you can link? Are they credible? Information is subjective.
wowokay··on Nicholas Carr on how to fix social media
Information is subjective. Do you care what the pin to unlock my door is? If someone had a post asking for a unlock code and I posted mine that would be information to me but could be construed as misinformation by them. If someone makes a post about religion wouldn’t an atheist consider that misinformation?
wowokay··on Nicholas Carr on how to fix social media
If we want to go “there” then can I deem all nudity be censored? Your fixation on viewing things as either racist or not racist, as information or misinformation is opinionated. I think it is wrong that people can tweet pornography on the platform without any censorship. I doubt the Gay Comunity would be okay with that being censored, those are the posts I am subjected too. The point is any form of censorship will hamper someone’s freedom of speech. Why can’t everyone just block people that post what they don’t like? The way I do on twitter? Otherwise if we are going down the block what I don’t like road so will I!
