Wow, is it a regular thing?
I've encountered many stereotypes on this topic from non-Russian russophiles in the last politically-intensive years - that's why I responded hotheadedly.
In this case I just opposed to these statements because I thought he had some utopian views of life there:
> It's about when other people become dependent on you.
> I think this is the way that it has long been thought of in cultures outside of the post-Enlightenment West. This was my strong opinion after reading Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy, (Russia isn't western like the rest of Europe)
Nothing in Russian culture is "long been thought" about responsibility. You could say it about Japanese or Korean cultures probably - people kill themselves there because of failed responsibilities.
Here's a perfect example of the "responsible" Russian culture: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=438sGy9IE58
This video is not fake - I've experienced this kind of alienation (and even hostility) for over 20 years.
Probably it sounds good in our classic books but in reality the only "other people become dependent on you" case is nepotism like in Middle Eastern or Central Asian cultures.
But at least people from these cultures care about their elders and far relatives. Russians do not.
Also "space travelling" means nothing when more than half of your citizens don't have access to toilet paper and use newspapers for wiping until 90s. (Sorry, no sources on this but I'm Russian born in 80s.)
Just because psychology or art are not defined in formulas that doesn't mean they're easy. Quite opposite: they're so diverse that it's impossible to formalize them into strict laws.
Huh? There's some correlation with prostate cancer[1] but that's it.

The teaching and the religion around it are like science and public knowledge about it. Of course many people know some laws of physics but not everyone is capable of building a rocket.
Because the core ideas of Buddhism are the only ones that can be applied directly to your behavioural patterns. They are practical, they are purely logic. I don't know what's the "supernatural claptrap" you're talking about, probably you picked the wrong school to study it and got distracted.
In my opinion other philosophies (especially European schools) are mostly a wordplay without an applied part.
Buddhist "hell" is purely logical, there're no concepts in vanilla Buddhism that are not logical. You're not getting to hell for "not meditating".
The hell is not eternal and you will go out of it eventually when you'll get better understanding of the universe. You're going to hell not because some god or Buddha say so but because the universe works that way: angry and violent mindstreams flow into worse states until they realize they should stop behave like they do.
For people who're opposite to the idea of any other worlds but their own, there's a view that "hell" is just a state of unbalanced mind and not some kind of dimension for your afterlife.
Why generalize? How about the core parts of Buddhism that are literally a checklist on how to calm your mind. And the same methods are used by modern psychotherapy as "cognitive behavioural therapy" and "mindfulness".
Please be mindful, everybody has their own ways.
Also small arrows is a great idea: you can navigate through code without moving your hand to the right.
Better phrasing is something like "not following after arising thoughts".
But I keep my skill growing anyway because I'd like to produce better software products. Development is a mess already, it will be better to prevent further complications.
Yeah, let's isolate rich persons even more instead of helping them to find their way together with us.
That's for sure will lead to a better world where rich can connect with others and share their fortunes for a common good.

Trying to add all the things you missed meanwhile.
All these comments like "you're not respecting social norms" feel kind of offensive. And now this sword straw man.
Sorry, but not drinking simply makes me not drunk. I'm never "more honest" and "less guarded" when I'm drunk (that's why I don't like it - I fight the drunk state of mind every time).
This is a straw man argument, you're comparing regular science with philosophy.
> Nirvana is not a natural state
> It is an artificial state that humans have invented
> we have to make Nirvana. We have to design it and build it and maintain it
Sorry, but you have incorrect understanding of this concept in terms of both Buddhism and Hinduism. Please update your information on this topic.
